not trying to give you ideas but... I'm in Northern NJ in the land of ridiculousness. I know of a few homes that use chandelier hoists (hidden by ceiling medallions) that are used to hoist and keep straight, monster Christmas trees.

Thank you again for all the detailed updates, and sharing your next-level craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Happy Holidays Everyone,
MADC

That's a rather smart idea. I'm considering the possibility.

Lol, I just saw the video of that house setup the other day.

They were the rage 10 or so years ago, no custom house plans over 5k sq ft that crossed my desk went without it. Significantly less common these days....I only see them drawn in a couple times a year but if I was building a house big enough with the proper spot for it and I loved to decorate like that....it'd be a no brainer.

I think that would be more at home on a 8 or 10k+ house. We are certainly festive for the holidays but that seems like a serious commitment 😆. Which is ironic coming from someone who needs scaffolding and a full day to setup a tree, not to mention the 60 cubic feet the 3 boxes the disassembled tree takes up...

..Sigh..
OK, nevermind I need one.

LOL

My team has probably a dozen houses over 10k sq ft currently under construction we supplied/will supply windows/doors to....even the couple of 20k+ ones don't have the tree closets. I honestly don't get it.....they'll have 4k+ sq ft of unfinished storage space in basement areas on those larger ones but can't figure out the tree closet which to me would make far more useful space.

Part of the challenge is the design aesthetic prevalent in these newer builds...more floor to ceiling glass wrapping around the great rooms. Which as a guy who sells glass....good for business but does limit some of the architectural features and decisions you can make

That tree is way too high off the ground. You need to lower it before the kid gets old enough to expect it to be filled!
Derek, that's why you keep all those Amazon boxes. Cover them with wrapping paper, put a "Dad" tag on all of them and artfully fill the space. Those empty boxes are where the saying "Nothing is too good for you" came from.

Wrap a bunch of empty boxes and put them under the tree.
Whenever your kids misbehave, throw one in the fireplace.

We have had that happen at Christmas. Over eager children just ripping open everything in sight, until the shock and horror of getting to one of the fake gifts filled with nothing.

Stops them in their tracks.

Master bedroom? What happened to the bathroom or is that all part of the redo?
The entire house is in some level of remodeling.
I started the master bedroom 2 years ago and the paneling is the last item on the list (in conjunction with the coffee bar that has been sitting in the front parlor for a year+)

The bolection moulding for the master bedroom was done back here (june 2023) ok maybe ive been working on it closer to 3 years: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/jar944s-3car-cabinet-shop.339476/post-10198800

Thanks for the update. Didn't realize all that work was going on.
It's the classic: "this house is great, let's change everything"

To be fair it's slow progress since we have been in the house for 9 years and most was planned out since then.

The lower wall painted white is supposed to be wainscoting.

We’ve done that, twice and we doing it again 🙄
If we ever by another house I’m gonna make triple double sure she likes it all 🤣🤣
Wish me luck.
TBH, the latest purchase needed doing.

She keeps suggesting downsizing (which would necessitate doing it all over again), fortunately rates and prices make that a loosing proposition for a variety of reasons.

Unrelated to the interior work currently going on, but I did set some of the countertop stones and both grills Christmas eve, because what better day to work outside on something you are not using any time soon.

Nice!

The cold temps here **** as of late! December the coldest on record for the past 15 years here!

I have had zero interest on working on the master bath project due to the temps.

Hey at least it's still in the shop! I lost my sidecutters yesterday while I was in the shop, couldn't find them anywhere. I found them a couple hours later, in the middle of my driveway. I guess I left them in my leg pocket on my overalls, and they must have worked themselves loose while I was on my tractor and eventually fell off. I was just thankful I didn't find them with the snowblower lol.

My wife has been on me to make more picture frames for out house but I've been avoiding making any more picture frame moulding. Partially because it's a pain to make onna shaper with the design I came up with, and partially because I didn't want to have a knife ground.

I broke down today and called my knife supplier. With any luck I'll have more stuff added my never ending list when the new knife shows up.

Edit to add, this would be great to run on my 4 side moulder if I had worked on it and it was functioning.
