I also wanted to give you a belated congratulations on your Oldsmobile. Our 1953 Olds 98 was the family's first V8 powered car and it pulled our travel trailer like it wasn't even attached. As the owner of your own 1992 Olds 88 you have every right to mount the car. I didn't dare do that to my father's car but I did love it from afar.

Yup….. looks like a prolapsed, you know
So the suggestion from Dennis in St Louis is to use a specific sequence to remove the whole inner roof shell and then stripping and cleaning it thoroughly, followed by contact adhesive, on fresh lining and the shell.
PROBLEM lies in not being able to find any foam backed roof lining material here in the UK of the right width of 1400mm minimum in fudge or beige
So I started to investigate alternatives.
I once did a Mazda Miata/MX5 hard top roof liner in Skulls and Roses for Nicola.
It came out really good.
So I thought about what else was out there, then remembered that also have random stuff stashed indoors (as you do)
Mexican or Serape blankets come in so many different colours and designs.
I chose the less busy design to drape over the roof, just to get an idea.
If applied well and tidy it could work.

As I am a little wild and crazy I would prefer that beautiful blanket in this case, just to see how it looks. Then maybe it is best to avoid that so the conservative old-school people don't faint?
Last night 5.15 Pedro texted.
Car undriveable.
So I went to look and found tyre shredded, front spring broken.
So we came home after I moved the car way out of the way and lefta notefor any potential farmer or electric maintenance guy.
Losds of advice from various quarters had me, trolley jack and cordless grinder headed out this morning after speaking to Cliff the local mechanic.
Got to the stricken car
Reversed it up onto a block of wood
Trolkey jack in
Alloy wheel off
Cordless Grinder out
4 cuts
Spare wheel on.
Drove to Cliffs Automotive 4 miles at 30-40 mph
Car dropped off for replacement of spring.
Pedro said to just get it done. Which suited me with this chest infection that seems set on staying around.
Mate PaulY also offered to come supervise on Saturday for replacing.
But Pedro goes to site twice a day, so I am happy not doing the 7 mile each way ferry till Saturday.
Just going to head out and get a part worn tyre fitted to replace the destroyed one.
Then home to sit and feel sorry for myself
Always something ehhh?

28 days and 500 miles later I thought a short video on my impressions of this 34 year old car, with the legendary 3800 Series 1 motor, would be interesting to share with some of you guys on here.
I am sure to have missed some important points.
But feel free to add them in.
Still struggling to get sleep, not cough my lungs out and taking Ibuprofen and Tylenol (paracetamol) along with Benylin every 6 hours.
So I have driven around in the Oldsmobile quite a bit.
Loving it.
Today I refitted the spare wheel and all the new parts that came with the car back into the trunk. Best place ehhh. I had emptied it all out two weeks ago or more. Bringing the wet stuff indoors, allowing it to dry. In the meantime, we had a load of rain, and not a drop or any condensation in the trunk.
Currently there just isn’t anything to point at a place or reason for water or moisture ingress.
I will keep an eye on this.
Also vacuum cleaned the inside and then laid the new cream floor mast down.
Let’s see how long this lasts.

My Oldsmobile 88 had it’s American style RED indicators in the rear lights relocated to the rear bumper, changing the clear reverse lights to AMBER indicators.
If you look at the layout, it may make sense why it’s not ideal, and why I want to relocate them back into the rear light clusters, if:
1.) I can get the colour right inside the red lenses.
2,) I can figure out all the wiring done to relocte both indicators and original reverse lights. It looks quite chaotic.
So the question is: Yellow and Red makes Orange (amber)
Has anyone done this before, using some type of yellow LED light or similar, to create a yellow (amber) indicator light?
I do want to refit the reverse lights in the bumper beside the license plate and want the brightest light I can find as my alleyway beside the house is dark.
Also….. Foglight ??
Any advice, links to slimline maximum 30mm wide and 100mm long LED type foglights to replace the existing haemorrhoid dangling out back.
Some pics to illustrate and demonstrate what I mean.

Chest infection receding
Not a lot to do in the rain.
Earlier this week I picked up a load of steel and brass about 35 miles away for @pauly to use on his lathe for practice.
I had also picked up a new, free, push mower for Kevin to use on their gardening allotment. So I delivered it to him.
While there we tried out some small LED indicator lights that I could use on the Oldsmobile. Ultimately, it didn’t work and I am still looking for alternatives.
Yesterday, I Changed ownership for Oldsmobile to my name online yesterday (seller let me use his road tax for a month) so technically, the £20.00 fuel and £32.00 in road tax from him discounts the purchase price by £50.00
Also put the freshly MOT’d Chevy Astro on SORN ( Statutory Off Road Notification) Not planning to use it till spring. So paying road tax for two, three months is a waste of almost £100.00
I was playing with some vinyl stripes on the Oldsmobile on Friday when rain let up for a while.
If I proceed with painting the car, it will be in various stages.
Roof first.
Then Hood/Bonnet
Then Trunk/Bootlid.
Now if you just separate the actual hood and trunk lids, it leaves you with a section of transition between glass and vertical body sides.
That transition to me, is indicated by the swage line the neon yellow line made.
So incorporate above the line in hood and trunk paint, done in various Lowrider style graphics.
And make below the line a solid, bright, metallic colour. Something like the colour on the Astro van or even Pedro’s Ford Fiesta. Though that’s possibly too light.
I also added a small black pinstripe at the bottom of the C-Pillar to indicate the end of the roof colour and graphics.
No…….. Not painting it yet, weather is not good enough to get paint down.
If I had access to a warm, dry booth it would be different.

Despite the infection and incessant rain, you seem to have been out and about! @pauly should be very happy with great free steel haul.
As for putting the Astro on SORN, that is indeed a good plan, why waste £100.00 paying unnecessary tax.
I hope that you get ride if that chest infection completely very soon.
