Part of an auction haul last fall. I'm going through stuff and wondering what these springs would have been used for in a machine shop. Anyone have a clue ?

Ahhh, ok that makes sense. . . Looks like they will go in the scrap bucket then.
Gently, or they'll just bounce right back out...

I got rid of a pile of useless motorcycle and bicycle fork and shock springs several years ago, and they're accumulating again. I'm not sure what it is about springs, but it's hard to just discard them.

-Those are commonly used in stamping dies for stripper plates, pressure/preload pads, cam form returns, and sometimes in molds. The sizes are matched to the tonnage required. Useless to the average garage shop but if you have a milling machine the weaker ones can be used to hold parallels apart in the milling vise.

I work in a plastic injection molding shop and see them daily. They are used between mold plates where a stripper is needed or behind the ejector plate.
