I guess I missed the specifics of your location before, @Beerhippie.

If you knew anyone with the last name of Stonebrink, you knew someone in my extended family.
Hell, there's an entire district north of here (Enterprise) I used to refer to as Stonebrinkia! Myself and a buddy rented a remote house from the Stonebrinks back about three decades ago.

Checked the ring gaps on the mower project engine, it needs a new set of rings so I’ve boxed the disassembled engine up since I don’t want or need to put money into it right now. I’ve got another machine it will bolt on to should the need arise so I don’t mind storing it for a while.

Harvested some hardware from the deck and push bar, stripped the deck of the plastic bits and put all the metal in the recycle bin.

Swept up, cleaned and put away tools. Filled the air compressor so momma could use the blow gun to blow the dust off a wreath she put on the front door.

Sat in the sun. 58* today, our normal high for this time of year is about 36*. Not complaining, but I may be by early summer when we don’t have any water.

Worked on the 3d printer all day. Tried to get a z-brake working, get a BTT eddy working, and switch over to CAN for the extruder.

All I got done was getting the eddy mostly working. Z-brake is going to need a better design, and I didn't even start on swapping to CAN.

I did take a break to go replace the fuel filters on the truck. I was going to do the oil too, but O'Reilly only had 2 gallons and I was too busy to stop anywhere else. I'll do the oil tomorrow or later this week.

Cleaned, flung, put away, organized. I'm feeling it's time for a deep fling again. I've definitely got **** I'm never going to use again.

Took delivery of and setup the Flashforge Adventurer 5M. It's currently printing the plinth at 9x the speed of the Ender.

Any suggestions on case colors or a snappy name for it? All comments from the peanut gallery gladly accepted.

The rodent infestation of the new to me craftsman boxes was way worse and recent than I thought. 3 residents were still inside the box but expired. The debris and some of the liners were still wet from them....today pulled out the liners and as much debris as I could.

Tomorrow will be washing it out...pull all the drawers and wash with car wash type soap. Should be in the 50's.

Edit

Did find the date stamp on the bottom and it's 12-74...now how to date the 10 drawer top.

The top box is 5-72 date code but my other stack is 5-69 for the top box and 4-69 for the bottom.

Edit change my to me and added Dates for tool boxes

Checked runout on the Bellhousing for my new tremec tkx. It’s out .006, need to get some offset dowel pins. Tremec will not warranty the trans if it’s off more than .005.

Still struggling with things like a few hundred brand-new CDRs and CDRWs... but they'll probably end up at the dump, too. I mean, I do still have a computer with two Lite-On CD/DVD reader/writer drives. Finalize now?
I still have printable CDRs and even writable DVDs and an inkjet printer that will print them. Haven't used one in years. Still have several drives in the cabinet.
I at least got rid of the ones that weren't SATA since even I don't have a computer with an IDE interface anymore.
Having said that I've dumped a large number of CDRs and even hardware (writers) but I seem to always keep a little bit of the old stuff around simply for the sake of nostalgia.
Dump most of it - keep a few examples.
Then in a few years you'll dump those because that's all that's left so no reason to keep them.
Baby steps.

Seeing your ute reminds me. Why do I see little antennas on the roo/bull bars on Australian utes in videos? Is it a common thing? I
hey Kay, yeah its very common to have a UHF aerial mounted to the bullbar. I guess it saves cutting holes in guards (fenders)
My aerial mount broke years ago and I never bothered to replace it

I think the only thing I have from the old days is a write-ring. I donated a ton of stuff to the NYS Museum.
I've always regretted tossing my old Hayes 1200 SmartModem. It was a full-sized card in my IBM-XT. Should have put it in a nice plexi box frame and hung it on the wall.

Or encased it like this guy...

had another crack at tinning this iron tip with Sal Ammoniac but still not getting a nice solder coating of the tip, I tried heating the iron more but still no joy, any advice ?

Wire brush it. Nokorode soldering paste. Heat it up with propane. Dip it in the paste. Try tinning again. It's what I do. If you're going to use the sal ammoniac, then it's gotta be pretty hot. 250-260C maybe a bit more. Then you scrub the iron across the rock pretty hard. Like almost as hard as you can push, so it grinds into the rock. When you finally get it to work, it's great.

well................I pushed hard and the block broke in pieces
PXL_20260208_051920759.jpg
You're not supposed to beat it with a hammer. How thick is that thing? The blocks I buy are about 35x50x75mm. They're impossible to break without pounding the **** out of them.
You just rub the rock really hard against the iron. Or vice versa. Well, at least you've got enough to keep trying. Rub the nice clean white bit against the iron when it's hot.

Never seen a block do that, but I've also never see one used not in a container of some kind. I mentioned I fold up a box from fairly heavy sheet lead and store it in the box. (Another lead box to sort of slip over the top of it like a cardboard box lid)

Make a wood frame to hold the main parts of what you have left there. and store that in a plastic box for storage.

What type of solder are you using? Acid core solder with a high lead content will be the best. Modern soldiers won't think that tip is useful. If you have a strong acid, dip the tip of the soldering iron into the acid first to clean it. I used to heat mine with the acetelyn plumbers torch and dip it into plumbers past and then put 30% tin/70% lead body solder on it.

Took the car out of the garage when it started snowing and put it into the carport. Put the Kubota into the garage so it would start this morning. It doesn't like to run when the temperatures get below 25 degrees Fahrenheit. Didn't take long to break a shear pin, so it went back into the garage while I went back into the house to warm up. A couple of hours later, I was warm, so I put a new shear pin in and spent 2 more hours trying to stay ahead of the blowing snow.

Every Sunday morning, Cemetery at 5:00 am to spend time with my wife.
This morning the dash showed a low tire. As I have something more important on my mind, I just ignore it. I spend time with Denise and drive home.
60 mile round trip.
Jack up the car pull the wheel and yank this out of the tire. Plug, air up and install it back on car.
Gonna snuggle with our furry son and daughter.

Cleaned and sharpened a third set of Wiss scissors acquired from Dad’s house. Pretty sure that all three were Mom’s.

IMG_8571.jpegIMG_8572.jpeg

A few years ago, I got tired of making clip leads, so I bought a bag of premade leads from one of my electronics suppliers. Can’t remeber which one, so I can’t name and shame.

Was trying to use a couple the other day, and found that they were not actually conducting, end to end. Found this craptastic “crimp” assembly.

IMG_8573.jpeg

So, disassemble, solder, reassemble. Almost as much fun as making my own, which I didn’t like doing, which is why I bought the bag of leads in the first place.

IMG_8574.jpeg

Repeat until done.

IMG_8575.jpegYou can't beat Wiss scissors. They cut the best. Here's a pair from the family farm. They were my Grandmothers. When I found them in the house, they were all rusted. I clean them up not long ago. I imagine they are at least 75 years old.

Prawns vs Shrimp - I had to know, now you know as well...

"While shrimp and prawns are both ten-legged crustaceans, the primary differences lie in their gill structure, body shape, and habitat. Prawns have branch-like gills, three sets of claws, and straighter bodies, while shrimp have plate-like gills, two sets of claws, and a distinctive sharp, bent, or "humped" body shape. "

Wow!

First time I ever heard of prawns was in maybe 1980 in a restaurant in Cairo Egypt when I went out to dinner with my aunt and uncle. Lot of “interesting” stuff on the menu.

My uncle sees I’m struggling with the choices. He says “get the prawns” they are big shrimp. Was an excellent choice Uncle Elroy; RIP.

Today was up to 48° so after I made a hanger for my 1/2" air hose out of an old wheel I started cleaning up the shop and found that I actually have a work bench, it's just been buried under a pile of tools, parts, and miscellaneous stuff since around November. While pushing a broom around wondered how I've been able to accumulate so much **** while at the same time tried to figure out where I can fit more stuff that I have yet to buy in there...
