But……speaking from experience on the east side of Michigan…..You know there is at least one more storm left in the season.🌨️👎🏻
Unfortunately, yes there is. (n)
Now that's the idea :)

On winter, we just got another 71 cm (over 2 feet!) or so of snow on the top side of Superior...we got a lot of snow this year.
Wow, that is an incredible amount of snow. 🤯

Jon,
You guys doing ok with the storms that came through today?
Yes, other than an incredible amount of rain in a short time.

How about you?
Just moved full time near John. Little town called Cassopolis. 3 miles from my house tornado touched down.
Saw crews working to pull trees of the houses. Looked like a war zone for a row of houses that got hit.
Being from AZ, never seen anything like this.
Did you get any damage at your home?

I work 5 miles north of Dowagiac on M51, and was on the way home from work when it was happening.
Got an emergency alert on the phone, and pulled over to see what it was.
Tornado warning, the alert mentioned Cassopolis.
Looked at the weather radar, saw the severe weather was heading away from me, so continued home.

Three Rivers and Union City got hit bad.
My wife went to high school in Union City.
Her cousin's home was destroyed in the tornado.

Here's pictures of the Menards in Three Rivers after the tornado.

If I remember right, the H3 is basically a Colorado. H2 was a Tahoe if I remember correctly. That Menards was HIT. Glad you were spared.
Correct on the Colorado info, not sure on the Tahoe.

Three Rivers took a bad hit from the tornado.
We were fortunate, Niles didn't get much of anything but lots of rain.
Nice! So many choices to drive!

And I notice your snow seems to be gone. As of today, our snow gauge still shows 6", though we have plenty of bare spots and dirty snow.
My wife says I have too many choices. :ROFLMAO:

Yup, our snow is gone, but there were a few flakes falling when the cold front moved thru yesterday afternoon.
I expect we will get 1 more snowstorm before spring truly is here.
But we did have these pop up this last Sunday.

Dude, you keep up the car collection and you'll be beating me. Are you at 5 now? If so, you have me beat on a car-truck/driver count for the family (6 cars/4 trucks/2 SUVs, 6 drivers). If you have 4 that are your vehicles and your wife has 1, then you have Robin beat by one, and I'm tied with you...............if you don't count motorcycles.

Very nice vehicle! I take it you kept the Maverick as well?
Enjoy it
Thanks!
I did keep the Maverick.

4 vehicles for me... Vega, Solstice, Maverick, and the H3.
Mrs jon72vega has her Kia Soul.
Total of 5.

We can count motorcycles.
Chatting with family, who were doing hockey in that area. Said they saw some of the damage. They were glad to be safely at home afterwards.
Yeah, there's areas that were just plain annihilated.

Just curious how insurance rates are when you have that many cars? Lay time I had that many cars I had 3-4 of our kids on our policy and I had to give blood as payment.

Do you take some cars off and on as you drive them via email or website notifications or do tell if you’d like to get us all buying more fun rigs?

I’m guessing your area doesn’t get many tornadoes?

Combining a good driving record, no claims, and multiple vehicles, no blood was given.
Michigan is a "No Fault" auto insurance state, so the premiums are higher than some states.
My 23 year old grandson is the only youthful driver on the policy, but it didn't make the rates on the vehicles we drive go up much.

I keep insurance on them year around.

We do get tornados.
We had a bad one go right down our street in 1998.
We were very fortunate, only major problem was no power for 3 days.

I've got some catching up to do.

Tried using the steering wheel puller on the Solstice but could not get the wheel off, was on very tight.
Guess I tightened the nut too much when I installed this wheel.
Good thing I like the wheel, eh???

Repair of rusted porch railing uprights.
Left side a splice, and right side post/mount base replacement.
Very sturdy now.

I purchased and assembled a Seville Classics wheeled storage shelving unit, because my son asked if he could have my current one to put audio-video equipment on. (that was its original use).
Old unit.

I like the steering wheel on the Solstice, too. Good call on the Hummer spare. Nice of you to swap carts. You're a good Dad.

I only wanted to remove the Solstice steering wheel to try another hack to enable the radio control buttons, oh well.

Ya, that Hummer wheel is only good for re-melting.

I try to be, but it's not always perceived that way.

Got stopped by the po-po for not being able to see my temporary plate thru the tinted back window.
We then chatted for a few minutes about how nice my Hummer looked. :ROFLMAO: :)

While I had the spare tire off I cleaned up the tire holder bracket, and wanted to use a thread cleaner die to clean the threads on the studs.
55173253529_a31e829784_c.jpgRusty studs by jon72vega, on Flickr

Had to order a thread cleaner die, and received one that was marked with the M12 x 1.5 I needed, but was obviously a smaller size.
So I loaded up the studs & lug nuts with Fluid Film and ran the lug nuts down the threads several times cleaning the residue between each time.
Worked well.

Funny how things sometimes look nicer in pictures.
Afterwards we had a nice breakfast and saw a cool Barracuda.

Nice work on the threads and tire cover!!

When you mentioned you saw a Barracuda it didn’t register in my mind til I saw the picture of the black old Plymouth Barracuda. Late 60’s? Too bad Detroit stopped making those and cars and similar ones in probably in favor of good gas mileage in the early 70’s.

Good to see the cats are still happy with their servants.

Thanks.
I liked that era of the Barracuda with the huge rear glass.
The cats feel that their servants are doing an adequate job. 🐈 :)

That black Barracuda is a 64, 65, or 66.
Thanks for clarifying.

In high school our history teacher had one that one day we put cement blocks under the rear end.
When he got in the car he didn't even notice.
It was a hoot watching him trying to drive off and getting out to figure out what was wrong.

Two Sundays ago Donna and I went to Adrian, MI to look at & purchase a couple of NOS complete convertible tops that fit the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky.
A guy's brother snagged 7 of them on his last day of work when the Dura Convertible Systems Group factory folded there in the late 2000's.
Supposedly they were going to otherwise be trashed, so the guy took them with him.
Anyway the warehouse where they were stored was being sold, so the guy's brother had to sell them.
I purchased one for me as a spare, and another for a guy in the Houston, TX area.
Quite the adventure.

The Houston top was picked up by the guys brother a couple of days later, but I seriously have to figure out where to store mine.
Donna already said the spare bedroom was a NO-GO. :ROFLMAO:

On the Hummer I replaced the wimpy single horn with a twin set from a Cadillac.
Sounds so much better now.

I did not care for the "antenna" that came with the Hummer.
I replaced it with something that looked a bit more like an antenna.
Had to clean/restore the threads and modify the bezel to make it work.

We had a bad storm a couple of weeks ago with 60+ MPH winds.
I was outside doing something & saw a blur of blue go by on the street.
I walked out front to investigate and there was a giant 20' x 20' tarp caught against my grandson's parked car.
I retrieved it, noted it was in good shape, & considered it a gift from the storm as no one came to claim it.

Personalized plate for the Hummer arrived.
It was only 15 days from day ordered till received.

Battery cover was MIA when Hummer was purchased, so got one for a Colorado on eBay & installed it.

Another FB Marketplace purchase this time to Hillsdale, Mi for a set of new polished stainless steel step bars for the Hummer at a give away price.

I had the tint replaced on the front door windows & windshield band on the Hummer.
The door tint was hazy & had a purplish cast to it.
The windshield band came down too way far, and was distracting where it ended.
My guy is very good at it, and fast.
I was in and out of his shop in about an hour.

Glad to see your enjoying your new Hummer. As I expected your improving it quite nicely. Here’s a picture for your two cats. Last week our local Fox reporter did a spot at the local doggy daycare in Philadelphia where my daughter takes my Grand-dog and he ended up on the news.

I am looking at a Hybrid AWD
We bought a 2025 CR-V AWD Hybrid just before NYD 1-1-25 in the Sport and Touring packages. I think it was as-optioned as they get. If you keep the cruising speed 70 or below, 34 mpg, approaching 80 mph, it drops a bit. The handling is good, because of the Sport suspension. The comfort is good, because of the Touring option, including a many-speaker Bose sound system, leather interior, and a slate of driver aids. Being retired, we don't get much miles on it, we just broke 5,000 mi. after 16 mo.

You got some good deals on the Solstice/Sky equipment. I bought an AMP Products Colorado/Canyon bed extender from a woman selling it off her Silverado. I took a look at it, and paid cash. Then I used my tools I bought w/me, to install it on my GMC Canyon crew cab. When she saw what I was doing to make it fit, she said, "I should have charged you more!" Well then, you wouldn't have sold it to me that day, because I wouldn't have bought it!

The owner/founder of AMP Products, Horst Leitner, was a mechanical genius. He also founded ASC, American Sunroof Corp. who built convertible versions of various American and import cars which were never made that way by the factories. They were sold through the dealerships, w/full warranties. He also made some clever bicycle accessories, like suspension systems. I think he was bipolar, he eventually took his own life.

SW MI took a hit on the tornados, I was watching from So. FL. I used to live by Kalamazoo/Battle Creek, > 50 years ago, as a young adult and we visit friends there once in awhile. I like to go in the summer, so I can attend the once-weekly cruise-ins at the Gilmore Car Museum.

I was very close to a FL tornado when I was teaching at a state college branch here. Suddenly a deafening roar hit our 2-story building, lasting < 30 seconds, and the lights went out, then returned. I ran outside to see what happened, the building dodged a good one. The parking lot had cars piled on-top of one-another, trees were up-rooted, and across the main thoroughfare on-which the college was located, the multiple-building condo complex had the roof torn-off the clubhouse, and damage to adjoining buildings. I took a look through the upturned vehicles to see if anyone was underneath or in the disturbed cars/trucks, luckily, no victims on our campus at that location.

The H3 Alpha I think is a good vehicle if you can use its capabilities. My GMC Canyon crew cab p-u I bought through Cash for Clunkers, and I traded-in an 8 ft bed standard cab GMC Sierra p-u. I have the aluminum Atlas inline-5-cyl 3.7 liter DOHC engine, tow package, SLE-2 trim, and it has the same mileage as your '08 H3 SUV. I've towed an open trailer w/3K lbs of landfill material w/it, and it's rated at 5,500 lbs tow capacity. It did that easily.

The CRV sounds like a nice ride.

I like looking thru FB Marketplace for deals on stuff I didn't know I needed. :ROFLMAO:
I'm going to get a Rubbermaid EZ step stool later in the morning to keep in the storage unit, as the shelfing I put in there last weekend allows me to stack stuff higher than I can reach. (I had my 6' 5" grandson help me load it up).

There is alot of tornado damage across SW Lower Michigan.
We have made several trips thru-out the area recently, and see it in different areas every time.

So far I'm enjoying the Hummer.
What's funny is my next door neighbor is retired career military.
He said to me: "New vehicle?... I've had several."
It took me a second, but I said "While in the Army?" :ROFLMAO:

Installed a used emblem from eBay. (much nicer that the one on the vehicle as purchased).
I removed the adhesive residue from the emblem & the vehicle with a rubber eraser wheel.
It worked really slick.
I was impressed.

Deer whistles installed. (Debatable whether they work, but they can't hurt, ...right?)

You've got green grass! We're still brown.
Love how you care for
and improve your vehicles. :coffee:
Yes, it's greening up nicely.
Next weekend I'll trade the snowblower for the lawnmower.
The grass will need cutting soon.

Thanks!
Running out of parking space there! Hummer looks good!
Tell me about it.

Thanks!

Are you looking to move and get a 5 car garage cause that shed you’re going to build isn’t going to be big enough?
Nice work on the emblem and I’m sure you’ll find more cool stuff on marketplace cause I hear it’s great.

You won’t have competition from me there cause I never signed up for face book, my space, or any of the other socials.

Glad to see it’s warming up a bit so hope you enjoy tour spring and summer.

No plans to move..... Although the right place would solve most of my storage, for now.
I've found that ample storage only enables you to accumulate more stuff.
Then you're right back to where you started.
I really need to stay away from FB Marketplace. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
You'll see why in a future post (or 2).

Yes, I think we finally have the real spring, not the 3 or 4 versions that were followed by more winterish weather.

I got this for utilizing space better in my storage unit.

Still not done, I bought this from FB Marketplace to set in the back wall space on the left.

Got this from my children & Donna for another "surviving going around the sun again" reward.

Don't how I missed this, but used the eraser wheel again to clean up the faint remains of a dealer sticker on the Hummer.
Looks much better now.

My Son & Grandson put the things on the top shelf of the storage rack.
But they are both about 6' 5", and at this point of life I'm less than 6' tall.
So another FB M treasure was this stepstool to keep at the storage unit.

My Hummer didn't come with the seatback storage nets, so found these on my favorite place, LOL.
You can now begin to see why I need to stay away from FB M.

Nice that Gizmo and Boots like each other and spend time together. Not always so.
I have one of those little circular saws, though not as nice as a Dewalt. Very handy.

I have yet to see a bad purchase that you made other than a few you upgraded and sold the old ones.

We all need stuff cause it not only is fun to use they come in handy to prevent so many trips to the hardware stores or Amazon.

Nice rack and I’ve still got a few of that style. Each shelf can hold up to about 4-500 pounds if needed. Another option for your storage unit since you’ve got a soft cover and other big items to store during the winter is to get a couple 8-10 foot tall pallet rack shelving and put them across the storage unit so you can store lots of stuff above the Vega. Or I’ve seen drop down shelving that attaches to ceiling and entire platform drops down on ropes and pulleys.

Glad to hear spring has arrived do enjoy it and your summer and little bit of fall before the white stuff comes again.

Always love the cats pics too
