I recently purchased a storage unit at auction and it contains some tools. Alot of vintage stuff snap on, mac, williams, proto, craftsman. Whats the best way to put a value on this stuff and best place to sell?
Also older toolboxes. Im keeping the Matco rollaway for myself but gonna sell the Snap on Kr1100 and the smaller boxes that are craftsman, snap on.
Thanks

Sets sell much better than singles. Check eBay sold listings for ideas on what things are worth. Generally Metric sells for more/faster than SAE. Specialty sockets tend to be very hit/miss, depending on their usage.

The bigger the venue, the larger the cut they take, but generally less hassle.

Forgot to add, nothing on there is jumping out as super old/antique, which means it should be easier to find comparables. Getting into the pre 50's stuff gets harder to find matches, and things can vary wildly in price.

Of course the only thing ive found metric so far is the newer set of Snap On wrenches but I plan on keeping those anyway lol everything else so far is SAE but I have more draws to empty and another 5 small tools boxes of mixed stuff to go through. Definitely some older Snap On, Craftsman, Proto stuff in there but I guess it depends on what someone who consider older/vintage. Im thinking 70s/80s which hurts as I was born in 89 lol.

Found some sets but 1 missing here and there need to dig through the rest which will take time. Those bigger chrome sockets are 3/4 Snap On and the impact are 3/4 williams. Also have a set of Snap On weatherhead sockets. Lots to dig through and organize.

Gonna try empty and get rid of all the boxes first including my husky box which im moving out of. Free up space then focus on the tools themselves. Thanks for the info

Not saying that SAE wont sell, it just wont move as fast. Things like the weatherhead socket or the 3/4 dr stuff may take the right person, vs an immediate sale for a set of 10-19mm combo wrenches, for example.

I gotcha. Gonna organize it all go from there. I did find older set of what's in the pic and the other wrench too. Not sure worth keeping for myself, I dont really wanna collect tools just keep what I need.
Also found set of double box end wrenches but they dont even sell them in those sizes anymore. The 10-199 set is there but so far havent found the 12mm surprised its not the 10! Lol and it also goes up to 24mm so extras have been added.

Thanks again for the info. Now gonns look into the jack, the snap on box and smaller boxes see what kinda value is there. Really only got the unit for the Matco box the rest is a bonus.

If you plan to sell on eBay, which reaches the most potential buyers, I would suggest listing the various groups of tools as auctions with the lowest starting bids that you would be willing to take. That is what I used to do when I was selling on eBay and wasn’t sure of value.

Thank you ill keep that in mind. Right now gonna focus on getting all the boxes empty and listing the ones im not keeping then organizing the tools. Id love to keep a bunch of them but I really dont need them. Keeping a few odds and ends and a few older tools that caught my eye

Last lot of Snap-on I had I put it on ebay with a starting bid of $19.99 including shipping.
Buyers bid it up to just over $90.00, which pretty much covered my cost for the entire lot of stuff in that batch.
1/2" drive SAE takes forever to sell - there simply isn't any demand for it.
3/4" drive takes even longer. Very limited market for it.

Yeah ive never really bought SAE myself never had a need for it. Only metric thing I found was Snap on set of wrenches going from 10mm to 24mm but missing 3 of them. Huge SAE wrenches though biggest being 1 1/2 i think. Probably gonna turn to ebay and just let them go for what they go for not sure yet. Focus now is cleaning the box I got and putting all my tools in it and organized.

I do have a Snap on top box from the 90s. I think its KR1100 but gotta double check but indo believe theres some value there too
