I know many of you are in the same postion and for those that aren't yet, I hope you one day will be! Three years after building my shop, adding tools and equipment as I went, decorating it just so, I feel I have it just as I want it.
I can do pretty much ANYTHING I want out there, which today included removing the cab from a 56 truck. For this operation I needed my Oxy/Acetylene rig to heat the bolts, my compressor to run the impact wrench, cherry picker and straps to lift it off, jack stands and dollies to place it on a moving platform, jack to remove a cement block from the frame :)headscrat) and of course, many handtools along the way...

Just thought I'd share my satisfaction!!

I'm sure glad you posted a picture of a good working shop. Some would probably dis the floor, walls, lack of dancing girls, beer keg, and big screen tv. Me I'm with you it is a place to work.

bitchin...

I'll enjoy watching the build of yer' truck. I have a "thing" for the old trucks. 20's to 70's Ferd, Cheby, Moper... doesn't matter. They all just look too cool.

And the shop, i'm jealous friend. You, along with some other a-holes around here have convinced me that when the wife is done with school, i'm in the market for a bigger shop.

It's a wonderful thing, to have the tools you need, know how to use them and where to find them. I have trouble with that last part.

That is a great feeling isn't it? I am happy for you.

I know when I am working in my shop each night I am grateful to be able to do anything and everything I need to keep my home repaired and all of my vehicles/toys in proper repair as well as make a few extra dollars repairing other people's vehicles. I enjoy loosing myself for hours in my shop. Mike.

I have glimpses of that feeling from time to time.

My shop has been an ongoing project, and there's a lot of stuff that has been left incomplete (but it's getting there). As I get closer to completion, things become more settled/less chaotic. When I can make it through entire projects without having to stop, without having to run to the parts-store, without having to tune-up tools/etc. That is when I love my shop. The more I'm out in it, and have time to clean/organize, the more I get that feeling.

Last weekend's project: build some tube-fenders to replace the bent ones on my truck:

Great post E-tek.

Everyone should take a minute to appreciate their workspace and capabilities. It might not be as much or as big as others, but to find satisfaction in your job and your work is what a shop is all about.

I hear you e-tek. Love your Mopar and am jealous about the pick-up you've started. I just lost out on a '56 Chevy big window project that sold before I got to it.
My next project is the '68 Charger R/T in my avatar that is in need of some upgrades....after I finish the shop upgrades I'm working on now.
Thanks for sharing the sentiment.

Bluesman2A: Can we see more photos of the truck and shop?

Thanks for the interest, so as not to jack the thread, here's my garage thread:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9617&highlight=skunkworks

and photobucket with tons of truck pics.

It's a great feeling, ain't it? It took me many years to get to my "last" garage so I wanted to make it the best I could. Sometimes I go out there and just look around and take it all in, not believing it's really mine. Enjoy it, you worked hard to get there!

Congratulation's ! Will it show your projects too?

It's a photo I've posted here before, but with captions for the cars and some of the equipment in it. I'm guessing it would run in the March or April issues....but one can only hope!

My garage/shop is still a bit of a pile at the moment, but the satisfaction of going down there and doing whatever I want, knowing it will result in something nice, even just a cut pile of firewood, or a painted wall, or building another Teardrop trailer, is priceless.

In time I hope to have the tools sorted, walls covered, one part closed in as a spray shop, and a rather large carport built up front.

This is definitely my "Headspace" where I can clear my head.

It's IN! The latest copy of CarCraft has a 2-page photo of my shop in it. It was an odd choice of photo to use, but it's my shop all the same! They also included a lot of the info I provided, which is neat. It's long been one of my favourite car magazines, now it's #1!! :bounce:

The photo should be on the CarCraft web-site soon - I'll post it when I see it.

I picked up the March 2011 issue of Car Craft this weekend and saw the picture of your garage, congratulations! (I actually posted a similar message in the truck resto thread a couple days ago.)

Isn't it great when all the pieces are there more often than when they're not?

Your shop is what brought me to garagejournal in the first place.

That's a nice shop Ed. I'm wondering about a certain Challenger for sale I saw on kijiji. Making room for new projects?
