Well, it's spring 2026, we've been in the house for just over 9 years and I can't believe how green our lawn is this early in the year. Granted we had a very mild winter along the Wasatch Front here in Northern Utah, but the lawn is already like carpet, and I am having to go to my twice a week mowing much sooner this year than in years past.

I mixed up some sand and soil after mowing last night and added a layer to the area near the east gate to level it out a bit.

Also, the area along the fence near the vehicle gate has sunk a bit over the past several years so I lifted the sod and leveled out some fill dirt and rolled the sod back out a few weeks ago. I still have a few low spots so I added some sand/soil mixture to that now that the grass is taking off.

The grass is already growing and filling in where we cut it out to add the curbing about a month ago.

I have two areas where I relocated sprinkler heads that are just starting to green up.

Thanks for looking.

Have you decided yet where the swing set with slide and the sand box are going? There has to be a problem area that is begging to be repurposed for the good of your grandchildren!
Little did you know, the reason for the rock gardens is the mini rock crawlers he’s building for the grandkids but haven’t told us yet. 😁

Given the Wasatch snow pack, are you expecting sever watering restrictions?

I remember a year when we had restrictions due to low reservoir levels and then the next year we had plenty of water. Some people got carried away and a plea went out to reduce watering because neighbors were be flooded out. (We had non metered secondary system in NO)

Yes, we have a 20% reduction in allocated water for 2026 as well as the fact that they are turning the secondary water on a month later than usual and turning it off a month earlier than usual. It will be a struggle this year but I think it is doable. I've been under 80% on my water usage for the past two years now after making tweaks to my heads and that was even with the full 6-month timeframe. I should be able to make the same amount of water work in a 4-month period. Should being the key word..

In hindsight, now that I’ve seen a better shot of your backyard grass, I’m thinking a T-Ball homeplate over by the rocks in the corner with the base diamond lining up with the fences. Your house deck would be the Corporate Box and your shop would be the Brown Monster for your grandson to drive homers over! No need for a pitcher’s mound (not yet… later!) The Boys (and Girls) of Summer are coming! You can thank me later!

I have to ask Sterling, what exactly do you have against just green flat grass? :bounce:

Oh you guys are hilarious. Trust me, we have quite enough rock as of now. It's not overwhelming, but just enough to give the grass some contrast.

Unfortunately, I won't be posting pictures of my lawn for a while, they barely turned our secondary water on last weekend due to being on water restrictions this year, and it looks horrible this year. It's taking a bit of nursing to try to bring the dry spots back, however, most of the yard is a dry spot.

Please post your lawn Mike, would be nice to see what you do to bring it back to life. My lawn is just barely getting going after a very cold spring.

I'm sorry, I am so embarrassed and upset about how it looks I haven't even taken any pictures of said lawn for the past couple of weeks. I really don't want to remember what it looks like currently. It started out looking so good in April with the rain we had but took a turn as soon as the temps went up and the rain stopped, compounded by not having water for an additional month this season. Plus, the city informed us they'll be turning it off a month earlier as well so mid-September is it for lawn watering. :(

Watching and waiting for the underground holding tank installation to begin.........:devilish:
Mike does have a decent roof size to collect water from the house and garage roofs.

I'm not a grass guy myself, I do try to keep the yard looking decent. This is one thing were good enough is good enough for me. Would rather focus my energy on something else, but a nice green yard does look good and I applaud those that do put the time into their yards. I don't know much of anything about sprinkler systems and secondary water, but the grass that is over our leach field for our septic sure is green almost all year and grows 2-3 times faster then the rest of the yard, so I guess I am watering that area in a round about way.

Well Mike, thanks for the inspiration to tackle mine. Really starting to fill in now. 7 Rain barrels on the property will suffice for the flowers and garden beds if we see any water restrictions this year but that’s not looking likely with how healthy the South Saskatchewan is.

Looks like it's filling in nicely.

I have spot on the side yard of my place near the gate to the backyard where I had to cut up the sod, roll it up and added about a yard of topsoil to bring it up slightly and level it, then rolled the sod back in place. Similar to what I did at the side of the house last year, but the side yard is taking a bit longer to fill in properly. It is about 92% there.

I got the same to do in the back yard to level out a spot where the entrance is to the Artificial turf is, Think Sand will be my choice of material.

I've leveled a couple spots by adding sand a little at a time but the two areas that I cut the sod and rolled it back then added topsoil were quite a bit lower than the ones where I just added a little sand.
