Slim pickings around here this week, but I was able to find a few interesting things
55332201954_e6b33c8f2a_b.jpg
I had five sales I planned to hit, and only one had a decent amount of tools, but the person pricing had a good idea of what they were, so not much in the way of bargains, and the rest of the sales either had nothing of interest, or not much. Anyways, in no particular order, an Atlantic (NYC) pair of hermaphrodite calipers, Knipix pliers, Beta ratchet (Italy), Indestro socket driver, Vaco driver (with the always fun electrical tape insulation), broken (fixable?) Starrett mic.

After that, I swung by my favorite thrift store, and book shopped
55331224431_3e726c08da_b.jpg
finding some classic fantasy, and some literature.

Saw the listing for a garage sale and suspected it was where I had bought a side cabinet for my master series box a few years ago and I wasn't let down. I was a little bit late getting there but I was the first person there. I'll post more of the stuff later but I figured we start out the Saturday morning you **** with this..

Just laid hands upon a Greenfield tap and die set made in Galt, Ontario, in what I think is a handmade box:
822.jpg 820.jpg
Some of the taps are newer; there's an Ace, a Threadit, and one marked made in Japan. The rest is all GTD, though.

($35 Cdn, so I don't think it's suckworthy, but I did get to explain what it was to the seller which is always nice.)

Woke up at 4am today to head to a tool sale. It is about 1,600 miles away which is a bit further than I usually travel😁. Hope to get some pictures up tonight.20260613_065320.jpg

Marital translation: "honey don't plan any yard sale this Sat; we are going to visit my mom!"

Marital Action: immediately looks up yard sales near the MIL's place

I do that wherever I am going. Work travel, day trips to run the dogs, dog rescue events, even the commute on Thu and Fri. No shame here. MLW even asked sometimes.

A lot of the older sets came in great wooden boxes, perfectly sized for every bit. Socks if you wanna add one tap or die
Yeah. This one is giving me more of a home-made impression; it seems like two boards hinged together with spaces routed out, and a little flip latch on front.

The wooden boxes I've seen that tools were sold in (micrometers, an eight-piece punch set) seem to have had more work in the design - sliding lids, small overlap and recess where top and bottom fit together, that kind of thing?

That is pretty close to a description of all my small tap n die sets. Due to the thin width of the tools, don't really need 3D cases. I have a smaller one running around that is much cheaper than this one just two pairs of spikes for hinges. This one is only one board thick at each half, with a little space routed out in the top due to the thickness of the bigger bits.

These aren't nearly as delicate as a micrometer, don't need the extra space.

I got this A.C. Gilbert #6 1/2 Erector Set at a neighborhood yard sale today, for the princely sum of $10. It appears to be complete, with the instruction manual, motor and all parts. There's a couple little round containers for the nuts and bolts.

The box has a copyright date of 1948, while the instruction manual inside has a date of 1938...the artwork on the box is definitely from the 1930s, so I can only assume A.C. Gilbert didn't update the boxes or the instruction book during the war years.

That's quite a haul. BMW did use Heyco brand tools in their toolkits so that is likely from a BMW motorcycle, although i don't know what model. If you can figure that out it probably will be worth quite a bit to someone who's restoring one.

Wow busy day!

To me the tell for the home made T&D box is its routed on both sides, adn no evidence of decals.
That is pretty close to a description of all my small tap n die sets.
Same here.

Yep--that's a USUCK!

Yep in was!

I'll have to give myself a "you ****"

until this: :wtf:

As per this and GJ Custom.
Oh no you don't. Self-suckage is strictly forbidden via the rules of the forum. See rule #5 on the opening post.

Because:

Ah, ah, ah! there is no self sucking on GJ! Its just not done!

Started off Saturday with an estate sale just up the road from me. An older lady that I had run several medical aid calls on in the past had died. Got a good solid prybar and a wrench for a few dollars. It was good to meet her son and daughter. From there hit two yard sales with nothing good to find. Ended at my favorite flea market where I purchased everything in the picture. I was really fortunate as the trunk salesmen were asking for very little. DURO CHROME speed wrench for $2, Mustang speed wrench and 3 sockets for $3. The haul included a duck bill Klein and sons plier, Thorsen, Plomb, Mustang, Duro and Indestro, S-K, SW, H series Husky, PowrKraft, Penncraft, Krauter, Easco, Meteor, Westcraft, Westline, Handlelock Ell wrench, and two Hornet brand sockets (new brand to me). Escaped with spending under $40.1000025347.jpg

Well while writing up my first three stops, perusing Facebook Marketplace ( I know,I know) this popped up 7 minutes away. Floor space is a premium, so going vertical is an option. Ever since my 68" Harbor Freight box made its way home I have been casually looking for something to put on top. Today that kinda happened.

So a good day went to great after a discussion with my son - more on that later.

Col Flea day, plus 2 (3) planned stops plus 2 TOO's one of which was a church Flea.

Col Flea was a bit slow: a pack of Silk Lites for a buck, and a par of toy derringers (replacing my childhood) for $10

FM1-Silk-lites-toy-derrengers.jpg

One YS produced: for $15 total - Porter Cable and Rockwell routers, plus a Stanley 78 plane in VG shape. the Japanning is almost 100% - both routers run the RW needs bearing lube at a minimum.

Y1b-Porter-Cable-Router.jpg
Y1a-Rockwell-Router.jpg
Y1c-Stanley-78-plane.jpg

Then a stop at the great ES from last week; closed but one of the 2 brothers was there, remembered me and the 3D printer was still there, and came home with me for $20!

ES1-Ender-3D-printer.jpg

It's an Ender 3 and is almost unused. - this was what I discussed with my son and He said I got it for Highway Robbery. it came with a spool of PVA and another of PETG. (one of those spools cost more than I spent)

He has a similar Ender 3 Max Neo now and really likes his.

Then the Church Sale and a Gerber multi-tool for $5 this one IIR is std issue to US troops - I have another pair but if its slightly different its a very similar center pull design.

The Triangle picture stands were a TOO for a buck each and are for my smaller Solar panels I use for 12V up camping. and the combo wrench is a Long C Craftsman from a late posted stop.

Another purchase from May

I suspect that one of the reasons for the price was because it looked like Proto ratchet had circular scratches around the shaft in 2 places which were quite ugly. Upon closer inspection it looked like there were some stickers or some tape there and those were at the edges. When I brought it home, rubbing alcohol removed them in 2 min (I wish I made a picture before...)

Proto 5250XL ratchet
Craftsman VT 44811 ratchet

Sockets 3/8 drive
7/16 Proto 5214 Craftsman 43002; 44332; 2312, Craftsman 43331, deep, Husky, deep

$10 for the lot as the sticker said on the box (I decided not to offer less which probably would have worked...)

Nice old Beta. That's an unusual one. Are those two buttons on the head or do you twist the cap to change directions?
