Dayton motor on 16" exhaust fan - help troubleshoot

Hi all, I installed a 1/20hp Dayton 16" shutter-mount exhaust fan in my garage. It was new old-stock. It worked for about an hour and then slowed way down. Now when I turn it on, it spins at about half speed.

The shutters aren't seized. The fan blades spin freely. The bearings feel good and there seems to be no resistance when I spin the blades and the motor is off.

Best I can tell the usual troubleshoots are bearings, shutters, and capacitor. But this motor either doesn't have a capacitor or it's internal (?).

Any guesses? Different ways I might troubleshoot? I'm posting a video so hopefully you can see and hear what I'm seeing and hearing. Thank you in advance for any guidance.

Sounds to me like the fan blade is loose on the shaft. Seems like the motor immediately gets up to speed, but the blades lag behind.

That would also compute with running for an hour and a fan setscrew working loose.

And a piece of sealtite and a ground wire would complete the electrical connection from the motor to switch.

Put a drop of loc-tite on the blade screw and tighten it up.

TIP! Make sure the motor shaft is clean and oil free……. Wipe down shaft with a rag dipped in alcohol or brake cleaner to clean off any oil so the screw will grip.

And a piece of sealtite and a ground wire would complete the electrical connection from the motor to switch.

MC or FMC would be better.

either way shouldnt have loose conductors like that.

Thank you for your reply! It would have taken me so long to identify this. I'm grateful. The fan blades were actually secure on the shaft, but the shaft was spinning in the rotor. No idea how that had come loose. I ended up dimpling the shaft, some Loctite 680, and tapped it back into place. Works perfectly, and just in time for some hot weather.
