Hi fellas, thought I'd give you a showcase of my garage, it's still undergoing upgrades and modifications (more shelving) as my wife and I moved in this past June but I got the most important jobs done (toys installed and floor anchor for pulling dead cars up my steep driveway):

One of my favorite features I added upon moving in:

The plan is since I have 12' ceilings is to install a 4 poster on the left hand side though it may be a tight squeeze.

My pal has the same issue with pulling cars up into his shop. He rigged up a 12V cable winch with the controls on a cord mounted like your come along to the floor. He can steer the car and pull it in at the same time:shocking: Might be your next step,eh?

I remember way back when I used to have a Merkur XR4Ti. Man I used to drive that thing like I stole it. I learned auto repair from the school of hard knocks.

Nice looking garage!

Here's what it looked like when my buddies and I got it:

Nice!

I like that little storage area in the back there

Yeah our neighborhood had the option of with or without basements when they were built (early 90s) and this house happens to have a basement, that carve out is for the water heater and downstairs air handler if there were no basement, instead it's my storage racks of car parts and the cabinet in the back houses all my aerosols, works good.

Nice garage space (I love the look of two single doors), and very nice to see a fellow XR owner here. Your's is probably one of the more serious ones I see posting around. Oh, and you'll probably recognize my other screen name better, worked_xr.

On a side note, I don't think I knew you had a 124 too. My father and brother are big time Fiat/Lancia/Alfa guys, so I grew up driving X1/9s, 124s, 131s, and even a Lancia Scorpion. Even right now, they've got 4 or 5 at the house right now (not to mention the '69 124 coupe and '62 Giullietta in storage):

I'm trying to get them to let me swap a 2.3T into one.

Indeed I do recognize your name from MerkurSport and MCCA, cool you're over here too! I only just got into the Fiat game a few months ago, the car you see is a total work in progress, I'm going to enter it into the $2011 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge (that should give you an idea of how little I have into the car). I'm really enjoying the Fiat for it's looks, simplicity, and cost to own and maintain.

Nice garage! I'm diggin all those cars and I'm assuming BINS of parts! My 72 looks very similar to the red one pictured, not sure if that's the 69, i know 68 had the euro side markers but yours has the smooth hood and emblem'd grille.

A 2.3T in a 124, insane!

Nice job with the Merkur. I've always wanted one of those...particularly since we have an importer of European parts for that car about an hour south of me (BAT, Inc.)

It's funny but I've never ordered any parts from BAT, I guess we went low-buck track rat beater and didn't want to put any $$$ items on a car we are fully prepared to ball up and walk away from...

(BAT has nice stuff)

Cool... maybe we'll see you there. I'm trying to convince my brother to do up the blue one for the $2011 challenge. I don't think we'll get a 2.3T into it before then. And good eye too... the red one out front is a '69, and is a tragedy. It sat, outside, buried to the rockers in the Florida sand, just rusting. It is unrestorable now, just a parts donor. And yes, the garage is full of bins and bins of parts. My father has been into Fiats forever, including buying a new 124 coupe in '67. The '69 he still has is the one he bought after coming back from 2 tours in Vietnam.

You're up in Georgia, right? Atlanta area maybe?

Lucky for me, BAT is only 2 miles from my house. If you ever get serious about looking for an XR, I might be able to point you in the right direction....

What you probably don't know is that BAT is a major supplier for stuff like hydraulic hose, AN fittings, etc. They actually supply aerospace manufacturers and the like. Seems bizarre, I know, but apparently the euro Ford parts thing is really pretty much a token part of their business.

Thats cool. Nice to have the storage space, plus its not in the actual garage space

Yup, Dunwoody. We ran the XR in Atlanta Region SCCA AutoX for the first time this year (took 4 years to finish that car with all of us moving about, should have been a year max!)

And you should really think about getting one of the Fiats up for the challenge, you're really close (relatively) and from what I've seen they don't get many classics that enter, and the ones that do are repurposed/heavily modified. I'm going to be going with a full interior and a sound system, no fun if I can't rock some tunes while taking some cones if I know I'm not going to be competitive :)

I could probably get away with buying one if I didn't already have this cursed MK2 Jetta as my project car. The wife would probably divorce me. If things change with the Jetta I will drop a line. Not sure what it is about the Merkur but I love those cars.

Years ago I purchased quite a bit of European Focus parts from BAT. Not sure if this is still the case, but back then they were an official Euro Ford Parts distributor and were hooked into the database. They could order pretty much anything at the time.

Yup, Dunwoody.
Figured as much based on the architecture of the house. I swear a friend had the exact same house in Smyrna (no basement).

As for the Fiat... it'll happen if I can get my brother motivated, which is no easy task. Car should be on the road already, but instead it just sits on the lift. :(

Well I got going on my workbench, and it got out of hand, originally it was just going to stay 4x4s with a plywood top. After seeing the What's your workbench look like? thread and doing some brake work where the fluid stained the plywood, it led me to go get some heavy duty vinyl and some aluminum edging. Finished it up with some furniture grade spray paint (works well on wood).

Next up after seeing the Garage Cabinets and Storage thread I started searching CL for the el-cheapo white laundry/garage cabinets, shortly thereafter (read last weekend) I ended up with cabinets over my workbench.

Here's the before:

Here's the after:

So thanks for all the ideas, and of course making me get this done. Remember, if you're reading this it's all YOUR fault.

Wow!

I also have a two car. I ended up having to do something totally different above my workbench to maintain attic access within a few minutes, so I couldn't have cabinets blocking it...
They look great though! An old set of cupboards with new hardware and a little paint... Good call!

Finished my pegboard:

Realized to maximize table space and make my vac easier to use I had to relocate my 'puny' tool chest over on the wall, it actually works out better:

Now all I need for Xmass is a bench vice :)
