@DGersic - Doing some Novell work? Man, I still miss Netware and GroupWise. So friggin' reliable. I used to develop apps using Novell Btrieve as the DB system. Got introduced to Btrieve in my first IT job doing retail apps in C. Good times.

None since I retired. I started with NetWare 2.15. Went through 3.11, and 4.11. Had many good/bad/interesting fights with it. Moved in to Directory Services, then Identity Management. Some of my early code was with a Btrieve back end, Bindery management, then in to Directory Services. Lots and lots of C.

Not sure how you got there from my garage, though. I just have grey walls and red trim. Trim is more or less Rustoleum red, which more or less matches the tool boxes.

Ah, one of the many Novell paper pads / notebooks from Brainshare and other conferences.
I still have IBM RPG stuff from 40 years ago. Pads of screen design graph paper, coding sheets, the old IBM flowchart templates. I use the pads of coding sheets for blank paper to sketch out projects. They're pretty good size.

Broke out the woodworking tool and made a Roman Candle rack and a 12 shot mortar rack for the 4th. America only turns 250 once is my story and I’m sticking to it

I "helped" a friend change out the bearings, races, and seals on a dual axle trailer. The trailer couldn't be brought to my garage, and my friend has never done this type of work before. So it took a couple of hours to check the original bearings, source the parts and then complete the work

Being, as it is, a holiday, I worked half-a-day this AM. Mowed mostly--all terrestrial this time.

Getting started painting the rockers on the driver's side of the Brick:

I got it clean and scuffed and I'm now waiting for it to dry. Shouldn't take long at 80F. Then start plugging the dozen-odd holes and masking. Hopefully, the wind stays calm. If not, I'll have it prepped and masked to hit it first thing in the morning, when it should be nice and calm.

Clean:

55372544416_74bbab2128_o.jpg

I only cleaned the area where I'll be painting. I'm spending a LOT of time and money putting that dirt on the Brick.

Yesterday, I got some Permatex Super Weatherstrip Adhesive and glued some trim and weatherstripping back in place. The rear sliding windows, in particular, had the upper weatherstripping/seals hanging down--like probably half the Vanagons I've ever seen. Hopefully, that's fixed now.

Time to get to plugging.

I made some blue wire this afternoon.
The 1-1/2 12 nut on the spindle of my brush mower fell off. Had to order a new one.
New nut was about 3/8"" thicker than the old one. Lathe was already set up with the 3 jaw chuck and carbide bit so it was easy.
I hogged it off in 3 passes. Could have done it in two but I wasn't in a hurry. Start to finish took about 3 minutes.
I want to give a plug to both McMaster Carr and UPS here.
I ordered the nut about noon yesterday.
UPS dropped it off at 12:45 this afternoon.

Beerhippie: Looks like they have a fortune in kegs. Does the brewery supply other "pubs"
Wanna buy a dozen kegs? More?

We had a boss-one of the founders--who could never pass up a "good deal". Hence we have twice as many kegs as we've ever needed.

I also have a small pile of "dented kegs" that have been removed from circulation as they can't be used as pressure vessels anymore. I make stuff from those, and we sell some to other fabricators for $15 each--scrap prices.

Timm, how are you patching the holes in the body? (asking for a friend)
Using some little auto-body plugs. I'm trying to keep the Brick so it could be returned to the original Carat trim if needed. But I doubt it will ever be needed.

I've already informed my friends that this will be my casket when the time comes.

Been shaking the can (shaking the can here, boss, shaking the can) for a few minutes and my nerves have largely recovered from trimming the masking.

I don't know why I'm so worked up about this--it's not like I'm painting a classic... oh, yeah, that is exactly what I'm doing....

I'll pour another beer and get to sprayin'. I did the other side in 30 oz of beer and I'm on schedule to do the same here. Masking and painting be thirsty work at (now) 85F. Good thing I planned it out to be in the shade this time of day.

Cut the tops out, weld SS bungs into the sides, and create kettles for home brewers,

My brewery might be AB kegs...

Note to self - wear sleeves next time.
It might work. I see a welding class in my retirement future. Been a minute since high school, not that we had mig, just gas & arc. Still need to touch up a couple areas. Very ugly.

Wednesday mower pit stop prior to mowing4029.jpg

This pulled apart the spray nozzle on my pump sprayer twice and cleaned it. Poison Ivy uses chemical weapons so I felt the need to do the same. Sprayed the yard before it got hot.

The front storm door received 2 replacement screws for middle hinge. Didn't true up the door will need the adjust tomorrow.

Had to break off that to replace the plug in #1 cylinder on my wife's GMC Envoy Denali with the 5.3. In true GJ fashion and an ode to Beerhippie rested my arm on the hot valve cover which I know better to do but I did get the spark plug started. Dead miss fixes for now. Sprayed the PVC valve with carb cleaner.

When putting away my tools I cleaned a few cans of brake clean wd 40 and carb cleaner off of my overloaded bench.

Y'know, having bare skin exposed to the intense UV of welding is just a bad idea all around. Don't follow Habib for welding tips.

Weirdly, this popped up in an ad today.

My first IT job (1985), I was hired by the instructor from my RPG class at the local Community College. He was the Dev VP for an IBM Value Added Reseller. He hired 6 of us from his RPG class. I had never touched C but they hired me to do that at in addition to RPG. My supervisor told me to go buy this book first thing. I still have it!

Got Dad’s various power yard tools here. The battery stuff all works fine, and will be going on FBMP in the next couple of days.

This Stihl FS 90 doesn’t start.

IMG_9639.jpegIMG_9638.jpeg

I bought it a can of Stihl’s fancy 50:1 gas. Got spark. Got air. I need to check the valve lash. I don’t know when it last ran, though it has been a few years. Gas tank was empty when I picked it up, but I don’t know if it was empty when stored. Carb looks ok, not gummed up.

Going to buy it a new carb. If that works, and it runs, it goes on FBMP too.

My daughter gave me a 14’ aluminum boat and trailer after she bought a pair of boats and trailers. It has been collecting leaves and filth for a decade before I finally found the time to go through it. First was a coupler and a pair of this century’s tires so I could haul it out of the woods and stuff it in the shop today.
Now I am gutting the rotten wood and saturated styrofoam out of the bottom to better assess leakage when I test float it this weekend. Then some TIG and some treated plywood and a little outboard then fun with boats and dogs!

I used to have a Ryobi trimmer that was a real witch to get started - had fuel, spark, etc.

Damn muffler was packed with carbon deposits. Took it apart, scrapped out all of the smegma, and ran fine after that.
