Yes !!

Those wheels are beautiful!

I really like those wheels and they will look great on anything.

" Hi, I'm Rian and I'm a Wheelaholic"

Totally.

And every time I say “Never again “

Being the age I am those mesh wheels hit just right, and I think you made the right call going to Thomas 😎

They are right.

But I hate them.

Popped out to pick up some free VW Bora parts yesterday.

Rear Springs are 2” shorter than fitted.

Rear Shocks two or more inches longer

Airbox with filter doesn’t fit (yet)

Two side repeater lenses. Only had one

Front core support brace needs modification to replace different rusted out unit under radiator

Today I am resting

Welding and grinding is tough in this weather

So I decided to tint some of the glass

Limo tint rear doors, 35% tints on side glass

I also ordered four more cans of textured white stone chip paint and another tin of seam sealer as neithrr of the original singles got to go very far

Rear glass tinting went well.

First one, straight on and squeegee’d out.

Second one……..?

Three, yes, three attempts.
First one done wrong way round.
Second one… wind blew it into itself
Third one…… Pedro called in to add more hands.

I also cleaned the door insides and painted the two panels black again.

Last thing I did, despite having said it would not be happening, I removed the roof rack and closed the holes up.

So my Sunday, Rest day ended up quite frustrating, but jobs got done.

Just went to grab a pic of the Jowett boot lid or trunk lid. Well, what’s left of it.

Along with a large piece of flat sheetmetal for automotive repair that I have used, this thick steel has been perfect for a lot of the repairs.

I have added some 2mm thick plate in places where structural integrity was needed but completely missing. Also a 700 x 20 x 5 mm length of flat bar to regain threshold strength and support.

The door panels have dried overnight and look so much better.

I am sure once refitted it will add to the recovery of this little turd

The Cube that should have been Cubed.

Next small job was tinting the side glass in the doors.

Found a YouTube video on removing door panel and hardware. It helps when you know what to look for.

Disassembled drivers side.

Stripped and removed all old stickers on inside of glass, used turpentine to remove residual glue, then washed and dried glass with soapy water, and buffed dry.

Super Clean glass is vital here.

Cut tinting film to size on the outside of the door.

Applied with loads of watered down dishwasher soap in a spray bottle.

Glass has a curve.

Once basic squeegee work has been done, use a decent heat gun to ensure absorption of the excess film that will keep lifting

Then reassemble everything, in reverse sequence (I screwed up on the second door)

Film and create a quick YouTube video.

I am very much happy with the outcome.

It was a nice distraction, after all the welding and fabrication during the super hot days.

For those still following, there id still a whole lot of welding to do from and including the front fenders, front slam panel and core support, all of which is almost non existent.

Thanks to you guys who still comment and interact on here.

What is the max tint you can have on there? Here it's nothing except a strip on the upper windshield, 50% max on front windows, anything goes on back/rear. No reflective coatings, though.

Google says:

In the UK, the legal tint limit for the front windscreen is that it must let at least 75% of light through. For the front side windows (the driver and passenger glass), at least 70% of light must pass through. [1]
There are no legal restrictions or limits on rear passenger windows and the rear windscreen. [1]

The Core UK Tint Rules
  • Front Windscreen: Minimum 75% Visible Light Transmission (VLT).
    • Front Side Windows: Minimum 70% VLT.
    • Rear Windows & Rear Windscreen: No limit; they can be as dark as desired. [1, 2]

Important Details for Drivers
  • Factory Tinting: Most modern cars leave the factory with lightly tinted glass (allowing about 80% of light through). Adding even a light aftermarket tint film on top of this can easily push the VLT below the legal limit. [1]
  • Penalties: Police and DVSA officers use light-measuring equipment to test VLT levels. If your front tints are too dark, you can be issued a fixed penalty notice, receive 3 points on your licence, or receive a prohibition notice forcing you to remove the tint before driving again. [1, 2]
  • Selling Vehicles: It is an offence to sell a vehicle with non-compliant, heavily tinted front windows. [1]

Looks good Rian, liked Pedro’s cameo in your video.
Looking forward to seeing the video when you weld the rear suspension turrets.
Warren

I have a real problem where I live with my internet and not so broadband.

Did two speed tests over the weekend.

I have no clue on how to interpret it.

But even just trying to get a video pit together on iMovie sees the photos not loading from the Cloud.

Life is good.

And it just got better.

I spent well over two hours creating and editing 65 minutes down to a 25 minutes video.

My useless internet connection was not letting me upload or Airdrop the final video between phones.

So I thought I would delete some old stuff to “make space” in the hope it allowed me to save it.

Yup……,

You guessed it.

Because technology is a fucker, I deleted the video that I wanted to upload to YouTube, first, in the editing suite where I wanted to make space.

I guess it’s a sign that at 09.00 I should be out working not faffing with videos nobody gives a **** about.

So updates may take a while until I get over myself.

Aaaarrgghhh !!

I spoke to Tony (you probably don’t know him)! At length yesterday as he is going to do his Peugeot TeePee Tepee ToPee ?? As his wife wants privacy. There’s more to it than the video, but it’s not difficult.

stone chip white instead of milk..........

??

I agree, lots of things I see the cats get or we have to remove ourselves (mice in the house) make me sad to see go…even if they are a nuisance.

🙁

All part of the circle of life

Rian, I was outside at dusk and one thing I look for each summer is bats. I had 2 pair darting around, I love seeing them and my kids were taught they are our friends. Sad to watch the video.

Indeed.

And as a 12 year old, having a bat that recognised me, ate fruit from my hand, dangling from a finger…….

I also bat watch, mostly when letting our dog out in the evening (she does go out at other times in the day, if not all day, before anyone worries.....) and love seeing them

😂😂😂😂👍

Cutting, grinding, welding……

Been carrying this for 10 days.

Pedro refuses to be a surgeon.

So I guess it’s DIY time. Again.

I remember exactly when this went into my thumb, including a nice sharp cut.

Tried to remove it a few times. Failed.

And today, sanding and filling, repeat….

It was irritating me a lot, so solution….

Dig it out.

Back to welding and cutting out rust.

Not in that order.

Factor in some fabrication as well.

And you have a load of progress.

Pictures.

Stop zooming in you sad sad person.

I was happy as I was in the company of another human being.
Turns out she is into witchypoo stuff, a serious Vegan and kept reminding me. Along with three kids, two boys, a girl, one boy she doesn’t speak to, and grand children.

Translated to normal English……. I will always be number 5 or further down the list, but I have to keep her at the number one spot on my list.

Yup…… one coffee date was enough to make me race back home to my happy place.

Two things, I'm surprised at the length of Rian's beard. (ZZ Top comes to mind) Second, the UK has a Popeye's! Whodathunk!

Popeyes is new to us.

I have not gone to one yeti.

The one @djones1a Dennis took me to was perfect, situated in a truck stop, freshly cooked.

Beard was fun to grow and wear.

But the dont like welding or paint masks.

In such instances, a strategic retreat Is in fact a big win! With too much baggage -both physical and mental- such relationships would very likely end up being unpleasant!

I can only speak for myself, but I know that I am not the only one that had to dodge many bad relationships, until I met the right person. So don’t give up and keep looking, sooner or later you will meet the right person!

Thanks to the relevant people for standing by.

Bit of a delayed posting.

After the sills and underside of the van, my plan was to do the front end and fenders.

You will see the true extent of the devastation later, when we get to it.

So I got distracted by those rear wheel tubs and suspension turrets that I had actually only become aware of after delivery of the car.

THE VIDEO IS A LOT MORE DESCRIPTIVE.

There will be a few more videos on this part of the rebuild.

I suspect the majority of people CBA watching the videos but hopefully everyone checking in on my madness will find something of value about this build.

One of the things to keep in mind was that the fuel filler system runs inside the wheel tubs and has various pipes all on the surface.

So I had to figure a way to isolate it from the cutting disc and the grinder and welder.

Working alone is great for progress and productivity but it gets to be quite lonely.

Fortunately I have a few people popping in to check up, interfere, slow me down and help me.

Lastly, welding in the first heatwave of three weeks have had to date, was seriously tough at times.

And jumping in and out of the raised rear end repeatedly to put out flames every time I welded because of the amount of underseal and seam sealer that had historically been used in the previous repairs. Where plates have been repeatedly welded over rust and holes.

This has turned into a true “RESTORATION” where I have to restore the vehicle back to original condition or status. And trust me, I used that word loosely. But despite what it looks like, I challenge you to build the same, or to come tear it apart physically.

Have some photos.
