Had visitors in the BPG today. The pickups unlimited were her today to round out there tour before the big show tomorrow. About 60 folks from all around the country were here enjoying all the collectables in the garage. Because it wes a truck club I opened the shop so I could show off the C,O.E.
A lot of nice trucks showed up today

Outstanding Don! That's all handprinted? I ask because I see a signature on the side. Not decals? Not that it would matter if they were decals because it just looks brand new. Congrats as always. Super impressed.
Thanks Dan, Yes That is the handy work of my friend. I always send my projects out to him because he makes my projects look sooo much better

Your work is amazing and then that there are people with the kind of talent to hand paint like that blows me away. I was a very good draftsman; if I do say so myself, back at the beginning of my career for Southern California Edison but I cannot free hand draw anything at all. Maybe in another life!

My neighbor, who is helping me put wood in the bed of my El Camino dropped by today with the wood all glued up for the bed. I sprayed a wood sealer on the two panels and next week we plan on getting it cut to fit the bed before finishing the wood

With the help of another friend we got the bed of the El Camino ready for the wood by raising the lower line of the indents along the sides of the bed and across the front panel

Always great checking in on your projects!!

I’m wondering just how you or your neighbor cuts the wood for your bed? Do you make a cardboard pattern and then cut wood with bandsaw or jigsaw or do tell?

Keep up the great work and looking forward to the El Camino redo as I’m sure you are.

Well let me say that it has been a team effort to get a pattern for cutting the wood.
First I used cardboard and used 2 pieces for each side 4 pieces in all started cutting half way around the wheel well til I got the back half close then did the same for the front side then mated up the two sides and did the exact same process for the other side of the bed with the 2 piece cardboard taped together fitting the side of the bed, I gave them to the neighbor and he transferred them to a piece of Masonite and came up with this

I ran across this company doing wood kits with unique colors. They use a stain and a glaze on oak to achieve a custom look. Really neat stuff. They sell DIY kits too... and can custom tint colors too

NOW you tell me! Ha ha. I'd have likely done my '55 in the traditional blonde oak no matter what. I waited my whole life to do one to my preferences though some of the custom bed wood I've seen is very impressive:

^ I had to reconstruct the deck on an old home-made trailer that someone had fabricated from the back end of an old Ford pickup - probably 49-53 vintage. All the wood slats were rotted, so I bought all new lumber for it, dressed up the metal strips, and bolted it all back together. When I look at yours, I wonder if there's any potential for expansion/contraction that might cause issues down the road.

Probably depends on the type of wood it is too. I’m guessing that even in Southern California it gets cold some winter nights.

What is the wood cause hard to know from a couple pics? Nice looking so far and very best of luck!!
