Just an entire new sub panel setup. Feeds one storage building, a drier setup, some airators, and a few motors. Will supply ac units power also. It was working for last 30 years but kinda sketchy and weather finally got to it. On fall we run above ground cords to the mobile units for power, hence the outlets. All the hardwired stuff not on panel yet

What a beautiful shop. I'd be happy to build and live in a small apartment loft in a corner of that building. Well if I didn't have a GF. :) But all I'd need is like a 15x20 loft apartment.

My hvac guy came out

Said I absolutely stole them and said it’s a huge win
Both 2 stage 10 ton units. 5 tons a stage
Said he’s got haul guards for them and have me specs of how he wants them mounted and where. So start on that disasters

I'd be curious of the story and numbers on the RTUs. I'm currently looking for one for 8000sf. After looking at a couple used ones, I realized they are being nearly given away off roofs, so contractors get them and overprice them, and I can't inspect under power. In short, scratch/dent new might be the right deal. I need or want 480V. I can make any flavor, but 480 would be nice.

If it's coming off the roof, odds are that it's junk because it's being replaced. Taking a good one off and replacing it is pretty rare. Obviously, demolition and remodels would be the main exceptions.

And don't even think that a commercial building owner is going to fix one any better than a cheapskate residential homeowner. Worse would be a landlord.

It is way more common for a mechanical shop to order the wrong voltage equipment (or the plans/specs are in error- seen it), and then be stuck with it once the oopsie is discovered. You would probably need to know someone to be in on that loop.

The typical used 10 year old rooftop unit is clapped out.

It's called bonus depreciation and energy credits. Also, very few commercial owners are going to take the plunge into an RTU. They will open the door, then close it right back up. But that's a solid reason to look before you buy.

This did remind me I need to call in some favors because I know some guys in these loops. Buying right off the roof helps everyone involved.

It doesn't take much to stop a Trane...

🙃

You'll want hail guards.

You'll want the economizer.

If those have micro channel coils, do NOT use anything but plain water to clean them.
They are mounted, hvac guy has the hail guards but me and him both though wise idea to wrap units in cardboard till he gets there with the hail guards now that he can start doing ducting

For reference units were mounted less then 5 hours before they got hailed on

This created a tad of a slowdown when I opened up the bin panel where I’m stealing power from and the sparks shot out as the bottom rusted and slid down the pole

I haven’t asked eletrical supply guy what all this costs yet, but I scared and still need several things for inside it IMG_2747.jpeg

I don't know why, but I love to see neatly installed EMT bends. Nice work there!
