Okay since I can't get Kenny Davis Hot Rods to send me pics of my Truck.
I figured I would redo my garage since i've sold all of my toy's to pay for my truck.

Here is how it all started back in 2000 - yes 2000

See that pile of mulch that is going to be my Garage's new Home.

04_20_00_007.jpg

okay a year later and some grass we have a "Sleeper Garage"

2001_07_16_2.jpg

From the Street it looks like a normal 2 car Garage.

2002_04_26_50.jpg

This is where i started taking apart my truck.

Peg Board became my best friend.

Okay it's time for a change and a complete redo of the garage. It's never been
very worker friendly so i'm redoing it i hope for the last time.

Okay so some of the things that i've done that are worth there weight in gold.

I put in an attic fan to let the hot air out. It was a night an day difference.

2005_07_08_24.jpg

Started building a shallow attic back in January

2007_01_02_002.jpg

2007_01_11_001.jpg

Insulated the ceiling.

2007_01_14_001.jpg

Put up a temporary curtain so I would only have to heat the back half of my Garage in the Winter.

I put up warehouse racks in the Garage so I would have a place for all of my parts.
I wanted to make sure everything was there before I sent it down to Kenny's.

2007_02_05_006.jpg

Okay i just like this picture

2007_01_28_004.jpg

Added two more windows. So now I actually have some cross ventilation in the garage.

2007_04_20_001.jpg

Okay now the fun part. I stripped all of the tape off the joints and started redoing it. Man I hate drywall work.

2007_06_11_001.jpg

This kinda gives you an idea where i'm heading with the garage redo

I've started re-taping the side wall. Should be done by the weekend so i can start the painting.

2007_07_16_007.jpg

Figured I would clean the floor. I really hate working in a dirty area.

Plus there is something fun about a power washer.

Syborg tt... besides that trap door... how are you going to get into that storage space? Is there enough room to crawl around?

I'm thinking a little door/opening at this end in the middle would be an awesome way to help load/unload things into the space...

I actually put in an attic ladder in the front of the garage so I could get up there without having to pull out a ladder. I do plan to put a Trap door on this end so I can get out my Thule ski/roof case.

There is about 36" of space under the roof ties. Plenty of space to store rubber maid containers and the interior from my truck. The front of the attic has about 4 1/2 feet of space so it's much more usable.

DAAAAMMMMNNNN!!!!!! Now that is nice!!

And how the hell long is that garage.
2007_02_05_006.jpg

The pic with the truck sitting there still looks like you have a mile of space. When you say sleeper garage, it looks just like a plain 'ole two car domain. Real nice. I like the pegboard idea for hanging parts. I never though of doing that:headscrat I bought a bunch of the tote bins from WallyWorld to store parts but every time I needed something it was in the bottom of the bottom tote and I always had to search or pull everything out.

Very nice indeed:thumbup:

Thanks for the compliment on the truck. I became friends with the guy's at Rad Rides so I am building my truck similar to the Chicayne & the Cuda they built.

The garage is 40 feet deep so I have plenty of room to work in the back of the shop and still have the cars parked in the front.

I added a couple more pics of the truck below.

Awesome, it really is a sleeper! Even from the pics it didn't look 40' deep! Great match to the house....if only my lot were that deep (we can all dream).
I bet that truck will be quite a handful when finished.

i take it that you aren't using the AWD drivetrain from the Syclone?

nope the truck is actually a Sonoma GT which is the 2wd version of the syclone. Same interior, no turbo, 2wd and partial ground effects.

I see in this pic you haven't got the paint on yet but the scourge of garage dwellers has akready started creeping in: bicycles and other storage monsters. :(

Cool garage though.

Yep - i'm still trying to figure out what i am going to do with all the kids stuff.

2 Bicycle
1 Trike
1 Barbie VW
1 Pedal Car - trust me this one is way cool and it's staying. I keep thinking about build an adult version of it.

the Bike that hang from the ceiling are mine and my wife's there are actually 4of them. Some are our old race bikes. They still get plenty of use 3 to 4 ride per week.

Okay did a little work this weekend in the Garage.

I found something my little girl loved doing.

2007_08_04_010.jpg

yep she is very happy

2007_08_04_012.jpg

I wasn't brave enough to let her go all the way to the ceiling. So I took over after 4 feet.

2007_08_04_013.jpg

A tip that I learned from a Painter friend was to caulk all of the corners and where two beams are exposed.

2007_08_05_002.jpg

okay I am finally ready for Paint. The bad news it's 95 degree's and humid so painting has been delayed.

ps truck update - the cab is back from the Powder Coater and it's in Primer

Well back from Florida - Man is it hot in Florida.

While I was in Florida I had the Concrete Paramedics come out an Epoxy coat the floor. When I came home I was shocked at how nice it turned out.

Looks good. Sleeper garages that have exteriors matching the house and decked out interiors are always my favorite. Keep us posted on what else you put in there.

Driving past the Rad Rod's shop in Manteno is always interesting - you never know what you'll see coming out of that place.

I just went through your 23 page thread at protouring.com all I can say is WOW. I first saw your "S-10" here and didn't even give it a second glance...then I saw how much work went into it. OMFG that thing has been modified to he!! and back. Three firewall redos...i am blown away at all the work and painstaking attention to detail it has.

ps nice garage too

Thank you very much. Yep we've done a couple things over and over trying to get it right. What is funny is the truck was suppose to be a daily driver.

ps - on the s10 forum there is over 1000 posts it's insane

Okay the heat wave has ended in Chicago and I was actually able to get primer on the walls. I still have some touching up to do which shouldn't take more then a day.

I'm hoping to paint the ceiling and the walls this weekend. Still trying to decide on the accent colors on the side wall.

So if you have any advise I would love to hear your suggestions.

Looks good. Can't blame you for not wanting to paint in the weather we've been having lately. This weekend should be awesome - mid 70s and sunny. I've been waiting for cooler weather too. I'm starting some of my electrical work in the attic. If I don't do it now, it won't happen until November (when I want to do the main work in the garage) since I start working 7 days a week after this weekend.

As far as the paint color, It looks like your floor is gray with white and black flakes. If so I'd go with a light gray. It will reflect a lot of light and hide dirt better than white. It should also cover the white primer in one or two coats. Maybe accent with a charcoal gray.

I'd stay away from a bright color like red because coverage is a *****. It took 6 coats of tinted primer and paint (Sherwin WIlliams 6866 - Hearthhrob) to get my kitchen right when going over the original builder white.

I really hate when my wife is right - she also said Gray

Check your local antique shops for old magazines with advertisements in them. Some of the old Sinclair or Gulf ads should work.

So two weekends ago i decided to go to the Good Guy's show in Joliet with a buddy. Never did i think i would run into a garage cabinet guy. Let me tell you this guy has some really cool stuff. All of his cabinets are powdercoated and built like they should be.

http://www.redlinegaragegear.com/

So Jerry and I started working together to come up with some designs for my garage. Here is what we've come up with so far. It's going to change a little but i just haven't had time to talk with him. Been way to busy at work.

here is what we've come up with so far.

Okay worked on the 2nd design yesterday.

Now it seems i am a little more excited about painting the garage and actually getting the cabinets in. So the plan is to finish painting the back half this weekend.

The center opening is for the 37" flat Panel tv

What's with the cabinets being up off the floor? Need a place to stash floor jacks/ jackstands/ etc? I think if I was getting something made up custom I'd take drawers all the way to the floor rather than having that space open, and maybe just make the bottom drawer a real deep one. Might be a good home for jackstands/ floor jacks/ ramps/ whathaveyou, though, so.... In my house, though, an empty space like that would invariably collect some kind of junk- you may not have that problem. :)

Your truck is ridiculous (I mean that in the nicest/best possible way), and your garage is coming right up after it. Good work on both.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was it to have the floor done, maybe a sq. foot price or something.

Good Afternoon All,

Okay were back to working on the garage again.

This time I've hired some very skilled labor the good news is they work for food and shelter only.

2007_10_07_010.jpg

Not only can I paint the trim but I can do an awesome job on my legs Dad.

2007_10_07_026.jpg

Yep the bigger one seems pretty good with a roller

2007_10_07_013.jpg

Installed the base boards -- they made a huge difference.

2007_10_08_006.jpg

Okay it's painted - 7 1/2 gallon of paint later but it's painted.
Now it's time to bring my tool boxes home.
