Hello,
Not exactly new here, but... My wife and just closed on an 1894 farmhouse on 4 acres in Maine. We will be doing a good deal of the demo/resto ourselves and hiring stuff like electrical and roofing. I'm self-taught but far from an expert. My wife is pretty savvy having grown up working in her Dad's hardware store and living in a farm. I am sure we'll have A LOT of questions as we go forward, as we have a bunch to do. Hopefully at some point I'll be able to contribute as well. I've posted a bit about tools n' such, but this coming up is a whole new world for me.

Thanks John. Yeah, we have an attached barn and she'd along with a separate shed that's in need of a clean out and rebuilding.

I’m from Northern New Brunswick and moved to NC . I love Maine but I can’t imagine moving up there now after 36 years. Brrrrr

Welcome to the Forum from the Southwestern Corner of California.

I grew up in South Central Alaska and have driven the Alaska Highway, both directions during the wintertime.

Maine was South of us. I am sure you will find living in Maine challenging but very possibly rewarding.

Enjoy the Lobster, Maple Syrup and Potato’s.

Congratulations on moving where you want to be instead of staying where you are.

I'd like to see some structural pics of the barn & etc. please. When you have the time.

I'd call-in a good engineer and find a competent local contractor to get things needing it fixed before the winter. That might prove to be impractical as it's nearly August. What type of heat does it have? The roofs appear to need work before the winter.

Welcome. Summer in Maine is amazing especially when it falls on a weekend. It's pretty good the rest of the year too. Good luck with the move and your planned improvements. I'm not very close to Denmark but feel free to reach out if I can be of assistance.

Welcome to Maine! You are going to love it. Get a generator and some real snow tires. Reach out if you need to consult a local. I'm 10 miles away.

Not all Southerns are "friendly". Get used to be called "Yankee".

From Good Morning Vietnam. What are the summers in GA like ?

"It's hot. DAMN HOT !!!"

Want to try this again?

@Jbear you planned the move for a reason, don't try to make the area into what you've left. It's a nice area, I grew up not too far away

I'm from Long Island and played hockey for a college about 40 minutes from Ottawa...I understand winter🤣🥅🏒🇨🇦😎. And Vietnam is exactly what summer in GA is like.
