Never came across a hack saw this size before.
I’m wondering if it was a bone saw for butchering?
It’s interesting.

That’s a bone saw, I have had several of them over the years.
very good item to have around as your daughter starts dating
I lined up my bone saws, hatchets, axes, and I think machetes on the front balcony one year for Halloween, back lit them quite well. Still no one noticed.

I would have thought a butcher saw would be all metal so it could be sanitized.
Nowadays, without a doubt sanitizable. Some with plastic handles.

But back pre-Depression, or pre-The Jungle, probably wipe it off on their apron
