Steve: welcome back cause we missed you. I know you haven’t had much time to enjoy your 6 Saturdays and a Sunday each week yet but maybe at least you’re spending more time on your own stuff and your bride’s honey do list which will make you both smile.

Seriously I’m pretty sure I’m getting some of my hair back just doing the onion thing and if you might want to try the rosemary recipe or one of several others in case you’re missing a few hairs give it a go. Or not but I quit wearing hats as much and maybe the vitamin D from all our summer sunshine is the key. If we ever cross paths in our travels you can call my onion head!!

P: since we are busy doing stuff all the time accidents can and maybe will happen but by keeping on the move I’m sure we are living longer and happier lives. Bee careful and keep thinking about your health and safety.

I was in my portion of our garage that is a complete mess btw so I’ll deal with that soon and a beeping was going on. Well the backup battery on my 13 year old liftmaster garage opener needed replacing. After some research I found out it was $60 to $120 just for the battery but easy to replace. Since it’s supposed to open the garage if power is out I decided to just disconnect the battery to stop the beeping. If power ever does go out which is rare I normally wouldn’t need to go out my side of the garage and I can open fairly easy manually so I opted to save the $100 and it works fine if there is power.

We spent our Monday night finishing this 1000 piece puzzle which ended up being a good challenge.

Just be sure your wife knows what to do and is capable of doing so. A dry run would be a good idea.

RH: I hear you and there are a lot of things I should and will write down about the house and my stuff cause at 70 it still seems like we are 40 but like are furry friends that have come and go we won’t live forever.

As far as the garage door openers we have two single doors with individual openers and her side mounted one is working great. Mine is an older style one with track above door that was bought at same time in 2013. I will cut power and do a test but thinking I can manually open it pretty easily.

Anybody love caulking or want to share tips and or gun they like to use please do?

It’s been a pretty decent summer so far weather wise and next couple weeks it’s going to be 70’s with some of very little rain so I need to get a few other projects finished and started and completed before the next round of drizzle season.

We opened up a 2000 piece puzzle that should take us more than a day or two but it’s great way to spend a few hours with my bride (and when friends stop by they like to help too).

I got the M12 caulk gun shortly after we bought the 30' toy hauler. It's been a hand saver for sure as the rubber roof requires regular re-sealing.

MB: I’d never thought of using a battery powered caulk gun. Which reminded me that at some point when I picked up some older Ryobi 18v tools there was a caulk gun in the group I might give a try. Maybe up on the roof next to the chimney where nobody can see results while I test it and my skills.

I found a rotating head caulk gun in my supplies that was a bit nicer than the two cheapie ones and it worked much better today. I used Vulkem 116 for the hardie plank and dynaflex 230 for the pvc trim.

I’m far from decent at caulking but I got it done and my bride helped a bit cause she’s the painter between the two of us.

I tend to get caulk all over everything so she’s there to keep me from making a mess on new timber tech and quality control.

I use a Bauer battery caulking gun. Love it. Push, not pull, the bead of caulk. Wet finger is the best tool for smoothing latex caulk.

P: I’ve seen vids of caulking going forward but it just seems so wrong to me. I need to caulk our little skylight soon with 100% silicone caulk so I’ll try your method then.

It was somewhere in the mid 80’s today but because it’s supposed to rain or drizzle in a few days my bride put on a coat of house color on the horizontal pieces of trim and hardie plank and its looking pretty decent now.

I didn’t know about the hidden fastener system for Azek until after I installed it and since I only had 3/4 inch wood glued to my concrete block behind most of the trim the 2 inch screws would have been too long except under the one slider where there is wood. Anyway we both don’t like screw holes showing thru the paint so I’ll replace that piece and put in hidden cortex fasteners with plugs soon so she can get it painted too.

We finished the 2000 piece puzzle too and thinking of tackling another.

Jon: thanks and I bet after you get the hang of 6 Saturdays and a Sunday each week you might have time to actually do a puzzle. For now you tearing apart your fleet of cars and putting them back together is probably all the puzzling time you have. Eric dowdle makes colorful puzzles of states or cool stuff that aren’t particularly hard to do that I got the bug of puzzling again cause it has been years (maybe 60) for each of us since we had time for puzzles and enjoyed them.

I’ve got more than a few outdoor projects on my to do list before the drizzle season begins again like installing more fencing and adding a couple new gates, cleaning up my brides (and mine) new sort of patio area that I’ve used while rebuilding our deck, caulking the skylight, chimney repair and general maintenance and cleaning up but puzzling during downtime seems to make us both smile.

Drizzly cloudy morning that should be sunny and 80 this afternoon.

My diet is pretty healthy for the most part but I do like a big breakfast. The golden raspberries are picked from my little 7 foot by 2 foot patch that we’ve been getting a bowl full about every other day now. Tomatoes in the eggs are out of our garden and blueberries in sourdough pancakes are my bride’s concoction.

Here’s an example of an Eric Dowdle puzzle and I usually buy new or slightly used ones but I think you can find them at Costco or on eric’s website.

Off to the trenches now.
