Ridgid mobile miter saw stand material supports are terrible

I have the model from 2019/2020 ish. The material supports need constant fiddling to get level with the miter saw's deck. And the level seems to change based on how far out I pull the supports. I can get it to work, but its just frustrating. Especially when cutting crown or larger stock.

It's nice to have the mobility, but I don't move it around much. It's been in the same spot for 4 months now.

I'm looking at the Dewalt DWX723 miter saw stand. Users seem to complain about the mounting clamps (DW7231) breaking easily. I wouldn't be moving it around much. But occasionally I'd like to swap my miter saw (DWS779) for my chop saw (Ridgid).

Any thoughts?

I have the same stand from around the same time and agree about the work supports. The best thing I did was make a set of wings for it. I ordered another set of the rails that attach your saw to the stand for about 30 bucks. Used some scrap plywood to throw together some wings and with the extra set of rails they just clip on and off. I was going to add some sort of legs out at the ends but never needed to. With the stand work supports extended all the way out and tightened up they support the wings good once adjusted. I had been meaning to make a set for a long time but kept putting it off and trying to come up with a perfect design. I had some crown that needs good support when cutting so decided to just make a set and use them and if needed to improve them I would just make a second set latter. So far I haven't needed to improve them and they are so much nicer to use. Also if you are cutting crown you can incorporate a crown jig into them like I did. I copied a version from a youtube trim carpenter.

Really like the Bosch T4B but it’s pricey and reading through more recent reviews on multiple sites I see many complaints about them changing the design of the adjustable feet. Any alternatives that folks really like and why? I do like how you can keep your saw mounted to the T4B and fold it for...

I have the Dewalt DWX723 and am pleased with it. Granted I am a home owner so it doesn't say daily use, but no issues.
I actually bought a couple 1x8 and 1x3 boards and made right and left tables for it. The black plastic tote has a dust collector connection on the bottom.

Wings were a game changer when I added them. Couldn't believe I waited so long to do that.

I like the dust collector idea. I need to do something for mine also.

I have had one for several years, use it with my DeWalt sliding miter saw. I use it standard the way it came and it works fine for me. I like the portability of it. I have a Porta Mate for my Makita non sliding 12 inch miter saw, which has a wheel on one end, but I just got used to carrying the DeWalt miter stand and it seems just fine for me.

Great idea. For $30 and some scrap wood it makes economical sense. Do your wings extend past the work supports or do they end around the furthest reach of the work supports?

This setup will work great for mitering the open side of a skirt board (1x12) for the risers.

I bought a set of dewalt crown supports for $25 and they work great.

I have the same stand, it works great for what I do, but yes it has tons of flex. Most of the time I simple force the board on the plate of the miter,box, with it comes time to cut.

Ya the extra set of stand attachments makes taking them on and off easy. All the plans and videos I saw they bolted the wings to the saw or used some sort of clamp to attach the wings to the saw.

They hang past a bit but you can make them whatever size you want that works best for you. Plan was to use some wood scrapes on the bottom of the wings on each side of the ridgid support to keep it from moving. But hasn't been an issue so far. And if the stand didn't provide enough support for the wings the plan was to do a hinged leg like the video I linked to in the other post. But so far so good. I think the weight of the wings on the support arms pushes them down so there is no "spring" in them, kind of "bottoming" them out if you will. So once you adjust your height of the support at the end of the arm so everything is level it has pretty much stayed good no matter what I put on it.

I had a set of crown supports before I made this and once you make the crown stop like the guy did in the video I linked to and cut and cope your crown like he does it makes it so easy. Also made the coping jig he did and use the collins coping foot and it just makes crown easy and fast. I used to hate it but it's almost fun now.
