Was it to much money to gamble on?

No - only $1! (Which is only 25¢ more than new ninety-five years ago.)
But as I said, it looked to me like it might be missing parts. I imagined something adjustable sliding in the slots, held by a screw. And I had no idea what it was. (Not that I have a use for it.)
I may see it again.

I looked up the "Gripper" screwdriver and the description jogged my memory a bit, I was going to buy it because it had a cool looking handle construction and reminded me of the early Snap on 9/32" dr wood handled spinner, but I didn't because I thought a previous owner had modified it by cutting a slot in the end with a hacksaw.
She had several sales last year but I didn't see it until what now appears to have been her final yard sale, I waited all winter for her to have another one this year, but so far it's not looking like it's going to happen...

I made that connection a few years ago, empirically, here...

Does anyone have any documentation that connects "THE GRIPPER" wooden tool and file handles sometimes found with Snap-on shanks (screwdriver, 9/32" spinner) stuck inside of them with the Snap-on Tool Company? Reason I ask is, I am doing some re-organizing in the Lugzsonian, I came upon my box of antique and vintage file and tool handles, and I have one called "THE LAUBER." As you can see, it is made exactly like "THE GRIPPER." Except for the name.

Here's an ad from a 1920's trade mag. The design is patented. So theres no way Snap-on made them. Now look where the Lauber Company was located. I'd bet not only my next paycheck, but every paycheck until I retire, that I just discovered who made Snap-on's early radio set handles.

...and I still have an extremely high level of confidence in my deduction, but I have not been able to confirm it with independent documentation.

So a Lauber style handle is clearly visible in a 20's era MTF catalog and still shows up in a 31 cat as well thou in both it's a screwdriver while the bearing scraper illustration looks like a more conventional handle. Anyway, make of that what you want.

I just Acquired a Snap -On King Pin Puller Set. #CG220A. The date on the instruction paper is 1-12-44. So from that information my guess is that this set is from 1944. Another addition for the Rampy Pickup…. Harry

Reminds me of this driver many of you have… or Walker Jacks of Racine using Milwaukee’s American Grinder. / Blackhawk 1920’s sheet metal hand grip patent on their jack handles.

An old socket display for a Snap-on truck. $28 on eBay. I just couldn't say no.

All the 3/8" drive sockets in my toolbox are a mix of different American brands from different periods that I've gathered from collecting. I would feel like a **** putting any socket on this rail that isn't a Snap-on Flank Drive. I didn't buy this rail to store an assortment of LIARS lol. So now I gotta get a set of old Flank Drives for it.

I found this the other day, while flipping through FBM

he had it listed as a tap and die set oddly, and while there was most of one in there among all the other stuff

there was what appeared to be a mostly complete, late 40s early 50s carb repair set

I had to add the ratchet and spinner from my stash, but I am not sure if the Carter carb parts where sold by SO as part of the set or not. The '50 cat sure looks like it, but earlier cats don't show those parts.

it even has some of the remaining decal left. Not sure what I am going to do about a key yet.

Hit up a sale the other day. Managed to find a few good snappy bits (ignore the plomb)....found a flexible extension I'm pretty sure is snappy and the socket extension is 9/32nds to 3/8ths...probably not super common I suppose? (paid $10 for everything in the photo)
