Hello everyone, I'm currently building a 30x45x14 garage. This is my first time building a garage. I've finished basements and built home theaters in my previous homes, but nothing this adventurous.
This is a picture of the space where I will be putting the garage.

I had the trees removed along with the sprinkler lines.

They were mostly weeds and two trees, but they're gone now!

I had to get a form survey completed in order to obtain a permit, so here are the forms.

Time for concrete. They poured the garage pad, apron and new driveway in a week. Great job by those guys.

The pad is a monolithic slab, 24" deep w/ 2 rows of #5 rebar around the perimeter and 6" deep w/#4 rebar in the field. The concrete is 4000psi.

The apron and driveway are 3.5" thick with #4 rebar and it's 3500psi.

Day 1 framing and my neighbor came over to help with the heavy lifting. The walls are 2x6x14 and they were heavy!

Now that I'm caught up, this is what things looked like when I awakened today. I have OSB 8' up around the building except the front which I'm working on now. I had to take a break from the heat today.

Unc, I'm in south Texas! My neighbor might stop by later. I'm figuring out my next move now while I'm finishing the front wall

I'm moving slow and the heat is causing the wood to shift and twist. I have to get this thing covered adap or I will be replacing wood again for the umph teen time.

I've finished the framing on the front of the garage. I have been framing since the first week of August. I can only work on this after work hours and on weekends. The humid, over 100 degrees daily-heat is causing issues with warping and twisting wood so I have had to go back over things several times. But finally!

Since I'll have brick front columns, I can use off cut OSB to close those walls. Now, let's see how many panels I can put up in 2.5 hours and in between breaks.

Oh my! ...a slab garage holding up some pretty beefy walls with a heavy roof pushing down on 24" slab edges...my my.
According to the Texas alaminac, south Texas soil ranges from heavy alkaline clays in the deep south to deep sandy loams and sands in the coastal and interior sand sheet regions...hmmm! I suppose your contractor know the region and what he is building on. Up here in northern Illinois we have to have foundations for the walls above 8 feet,
May I suggest gutters and downspouts to avoid ANY soil movement along the permiter.
It gonna be a great big space when done!!!! Congratulations on your new mancave!!!!

Yes, I had a local company perform the work so I'm good there. Yes, gutters and downspouts are on the menu. I just moved here from the Chicagoland area a year ago and getting the water away from the foundation is very important. I have pine trees behind the garage and along one side. The pine needles are a pita during construction so I know the roof will be full them without some type of gutter guard.
