This is my grandpa's ratchet (snap-on) that he got from the army back in the 30's or 40's. It is still a good ratchet and its the only one i've ever seen, does anybody have one like it?

I've got several of that general style. I believe that shape of handle was used for both industrial and military ratchets (also some Blue Point and Par X stuff!)...military usually have no date code and has a "V" in the part number...
It is mechanically the same as regular ratchets of same time period, and I believe the ones with same head and repair parts also have the 71 in the PN.
I have kinda sorta started collecting military Snap-on, both the WWII E and G type and later stuff with handles like yours. So far, sort of groping in the dark with no relevant catalogs and no date codes on the tools.

I have one and like it. They made reproductions of it a few years back too.

Unfortunately they don't have rebuild kits any more. Mine has a bad tooth and snap-on doesn't have the parts. If it's a non-military one you can send it back for a replacement S80 ratchet, but the e/g date code ratchets are not eligible.

I have one that needs a rebuild kit. My grandfather used it in the 40s as a mechanic at a local Ford Garage.

So that would explain why I couldnt find the date stamp and it is FV71 kinda makes it even cooler, p.s. I paid $5 for it with a few things in a yardsale and it is in very good shape

Back in the 80's or 90's the Snap-On guy replaced the guts inside our ratchet because it was stripped and worn. If you look closely at my pictures you can see a difference in other 71N's.
