I picked this up for $125 today. The press has two different (tonnage) listed. The Upper frame states #30,000, and the Press plate states #60,000.

I tried to research this press, but came up with very little info. I did find a sticker that said made in the U.S.A., so that sealed the deal for me.

Carolina made some High Dollar Presses, You didnt get hurt at $125. It looks like its very well made, With any press outside the actual hydraulics you are paying for the Steel thickness and Fitment of the Frame. Im partial to the Porta power units versus the Bottle Jacks but thats just my personal opinion, I like to be able to see what im pressing and its hard to see around that style sometimes.

I hope I didn't get screwed. The market for used shop presses in my neck of the woods is virtually non-existent. I Would have to order one or pick one up at harbor freight. I guess time will tell.

Nah... You didnt get screwed. NO Worries... If your worried measure the thickness of the steel, Working Area Dimensions and Weight and then head to HF. I think you will be pleasantly suprised.

Does your tag look like mine except for the name? My press looks identical to yours but has a different name and was made in the South Carolina.

Yes... I did some googling and found that Carolina and Continental merged/Changed Name somewhere down the road.

Thanks Steve, I thought they were the same.

jpoe,

Are you sure the top plate says 30,000 pounds or 30 tons? Mine is noted 30 tons on the frame and 60,000 pounds on the press plate. Either way, measure the steel for the side frame, top frame and press rest (web and flange thickness, flange width and depth) and I will compare it to mine. I'm almost certain yours is a 30 ton press though.

Edit: I bought mine for $30 without a jack and had to add a temp POS HF 30 ton jack to it until I can find a good 30 ton USA made jack. If yours has a working jack, you got a nice deal.

Yes it says 30 tons, not #30,000. That is what I get for typing while intoxicated. And the tag looks identical.

Hiball, where did you find that info? I searched for hours and only came across a few nuggets of info. I am glad you were able to find some info on the C.O.O. I would not have been very pleased about paying more than scrap price for an asian import.

I will find a home for the press, fab a press brake attachment, and give a review as soon as I get time.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
Back in 1999 a guy in a pickup truck pulled up and ask for the man in charge at the tool & Die/automation company I was at. The receptionist called me I went out there and they had a 85 ton press for $1,400. Made in USA, looked great, I called the controller and had her right the check. As far as I know they are still using that press, it was very good unit. By the way, what ever happened to Carolina press company? Did they go out of business?

Are you going to start stereotyping blacks next?

Toolhorder,

As a person with a LOT of Irish in my background (from the Savannah, GA area) you must lead a sheltered life if you have not heard of the travelers. They live just north of Augusta near Aiken, SC and they are a bunch of con artists that hit the Southeast and midwest every year. It is not "stereotyping" and the rest of the Irish don't like them either.

Try this link for a little background:

I used to have those guys come by my shop all the time trying to sell that stuff. They would step out of the truck and I just tell them I wasn't interested. I listened to the sob story one time. Three days later anther truck pulled up and started in on the same story. From then on I pretty much (in a nice way) to hit the road. They stopped by about every 3-4 months.
