I don't know about quality, honestly. But I got a set and sent them back. They just looked cheesy. Plus, the stamp for the number doesn't adhere well to the gold.

I prefer the red-handled originals.

I can't find where it says what the gold-plating is actually for. Better corrosion resistance?

I know in speaker connection terminals they plate with gold so they wont oxidize?

They were some sort of commemorative edition, if I recall correctly.
