RiteTemp Propane Heater

Greeting,

I have a couple of questions about my RiteTemp Heater that I bought from a yard sale over the summer. I finally got around to bringing it home and putting it up yesterday. I noticed that there is no gauge to tell yo how much propane is left in the tank.

Question 1) Is there a way of telling how much propane is left in the tank without weighing it?

The heater has a thermostat in it, a dial the goes from 1 to 5, but I would like to hook up a digital thermostat that would allow me to set the time that the heater comes on.

Question 2) Is that possible to do?

How big a tank do you have? In theory, after the heater has been running for a while there will be a temperature difference between the between the levels of liquid and vapor in the tank. The liquid will be colder than the vapor. If there is enough humidity you may see condensation or even frost below the top of the liquid level. You could use an IR thermometer to find the liquid level. At least that's the theory and what I'm trying to do on my twin 100 gallon tanks.

I bought the same kind of heater over the Summer and had it apart to clean and inspect it. I don't think there is any possible way to retrofit with any kind of digital control. At least not any way that wouldn't make it worthwhile to just go buy a heater with it already.

My heater is a 30k BTU "blue flame" heater and I'm happy with it. Much better than the 30k BTU propane torpedo it replaced. I run mine off 20 lb tanks because I don't own my house and can't permanently install anything.

I have one 100 lb. tank. That is a bummer about the thermostat.
