Changing to a larger Amp breaker

I have an 125Amp service in my shop. I have a phase converter running from a 50 amp circuit, I want to replace it with a larger breaker and wire. What's the largest breaker I can use?

What's the max amperage of the phase converter? As long as you use appropriately sized wire, you should be able to go as high as that. If your branch circuit is more than a few feet from your panel. be prepared to spend a shitload of money on the wire. I ran a 220/50 from my service panel out to my barn and I think I ended up spending $300 on wire.

Probably something like 80% of the main panel breaker rating, which is 100A if your panel is 125A.

Nothing to stop you from putting in anything you want. If you match the breaker and wire size, that pretty well takes care of it. Do you have a 125 amp main? What is the size of the breaker protecting the the shop service.

The issue I was having was one of my converters was blowing the fuse. I ended up replacing the disconnect with a larger 50 amp one. I need to check the voltage on each leg and adjust with run caps. All is well now, thanks.

I kept the 50 amp breaker and 8 ga wire, I used another disconnect with a larger fuse(50amp)
