Unloading a 1500lb lift

How did all you guys with lifts unload the lift from the freight truck on delivery? I am ready to buy but can't think of any way to get a 1500lb package off of an 18-wheeler. Even with a lift gate, how would I get it on the gate, and off of it once its at ground level? I have dollies and jacks to work with, but I don't think the trucker will want to wait around while I figure out how to unload and move the package without a forklift.

I would call the freight company. They will want to know if you have a dock or not. If you are like most, you do not, they should be able to bring the unit out on a truck with a liftgate. If it is palletized, then they will often have a pallet jack with them and will be able to drop the pallets at the door to the shop, that is if you have a hard surface driveway....

The way I did it was with a friend who has a roll off flat bed truck. We picked it up from the warehouse, but you could pick it up a the freight depot prob for less money in shipping. We just attached the winch to the front, lifted the bed and started lowering it onto dollies.

Pick mine up from the shipping yard on my 18' trailer, then used my engine hoist to take it off into my garage.

How do you unload something like this with a liftgate? Isn't it too long to fit on a liftgate?

I had mine delivered to the local lumber yard, where they took it off with a fork lift, and delivered it to my driveway all for $50. The lumber truck has a lift on it and it took all of 5 minutes from the time he arrived to the time he left for him to put it right in front of my garage door. Cheap at twice the price....

I had mine dropped off at a landscaping biz across the street. They unloaded it with a towmotor and brought it right over.

Now there's a thought. Did you approach the lumber yard "cold" or did you have some contacts there to begin with?

Don't have one yet (It's coming soon) but I have a skid steer but the idea of picking it up with a roll back would be pretty good can back it up and drop it right in the bay.

That looks like the Bend Pack I had one come to my house via lift gate truck. We had little problem getting it out and on the ground. We were able to get the post bundle extended out enough to pivot it and have it stick out on ether side of the gate without risk of it falling off. We broke the package down some and used a pallet jack and my 2 movers dollys. Once on the ground I broke the unit down at the bottom of the drive and used two movers dolly to move the posts and other parts into the shop myself. About an hour from truck showing up to all parts in the shop. The rafter were still open at the time so a rope was all that was needed to stand the posts once in the shop. That was a Happy day for sure!

I had mine delivered to where I work. We have a loading dock and a forklift. I stored it there until my garage was ready. We loaded it on a car trailer for the trip home. Once there, I borrowed a forklift from a drywall installer's warehouse a few blocks away. We unloaded it, broke it down, and raised the posts and drove the forklift back all in under 45 minutes. Then it was back to work...

Its real easy. Have it delievered to the terminal. go pick up with a trailer, they will load it for you. and then once you get home, break the pallet apart. the heavist piece is about 400 lbs. That how I did mine, alone. The big piece wll stand right up and then you walk it in place.

I have several 2' pieces of 4" pipe. They make great rollers for long, heavy things.

When I got my 4 post lift they brought it on a dual axle utility trailer (you could rent a car hauler from U-Haul), once at my garage they unbolted the parts from the pallets. The only parts that couldn't be moved by hand were the two "ramps", and they just used an engine hoist to move these in place. They actually got everything else set up, and then just rolled the parts in place. They did my whole lift install in under 3 hours, and it was just 1 guy.

I moved my ramps with the aid of 2 old steel rims..... actually 3, because when one got to the end, I put another at the front, and the front one was now in the middle. I am sure that you get the idea of how I did it. I always try to work smarter, not harder..... Junk...
