I used to have a bunch of MAC tools. The first Mac guy I had was cool as hell. Sadly he is now out of business so is the second and third one. I have only been in the business for about a decade, I am 28. The fourth guy and current, is not very well stocked and is not the best to warranty things (read TERRIBLE) I think I have five pliers, deep impact sockets 1/2 in., and one ratchet left. The rest have been sold/traded in or thrown away when they could not be warrantied. I tried to give the new guy a chance, but after waiting 2 months on a tool I ordered it just wasn't worth it. Its sad what has become of this once awesome company. Thanks Stanley. :shocking:

i have a few mac tools that i bought 13+ years ago, and have had zero problems, and they were all USA made.
a few other items i bought from mac, mostly to supplement my home tool box, were not usa made, and my mac dealer at the time amde it clear that they were made off shore.
the last 3 mac dealers have sucked pond water IMHO.
i try to get broken USA made tools warrantied and the dealer dissappears for months at a time.
the most recent one is still in the area, but i'm not gonna chase his sorry *** around and try to get stuff warrantied.
i'll buy from a dealer that stops by. all the broekn mac stuff has been replaced by another truck brand

Sooooooo.....bottom line seems to be don't buy MAC period because of the lawsuit?? Since MAC doesn't datecode their stuff it would hard to tell what stuff is post-lawsuit and anything pre-lawsuit seems like its fair game to be chinaman or taiwan made?? Consensus??

Stanley was the overall company that lost the lawsuit and I was told by a MAC dealer the tools in question at the time were more the Husky, Master Mechanic, Blackhawk and Stanley brands that were not enough domestic content. The outsource of MAC branded stuff started to happen after that but I know the above brands were labeled all from Taiwan right after that. I even remember seeing tools in HD labeled Husky with no COO on the tool or package then all labeled Taiwan a few months later. He had a paper sent from the MAC HQ's stating the above story he showed me and the only tools he ever had was Blackhawk and they wanted him to sign the paper saying he would tell people about the Blackhawk stuff before he sold it.

To be fair I have tried the Mac Edge sockets, if they were made here they would be great. I like the design on rounded bolts but the fact they are made in the PRC makes the durability questionable.

How do companies like Wera/Knipex/etc do in terms of COO (Germany vs China)?

The way I see it, if I'm not buying US tools for certain I'll just go save $$ at HF, as their stuff has honestly been improving (at the expense of a lot of patents I'm sure). I'd rather not pay US prices for chinese tools. I'm okay with HF stuff breaking.
