Hello my friend - great to hear from you ! Hope that all is well with you & your family. Are you ready for Christmas?

We are new grandparents this year (yikes :scared: ) and I am still trying to get my head around that new title !! I don't FEEL like a grandfather, but I sure as hell LOOK like one. Father time waits for no one.

Just back from visiting the new grandbaby and wishing her a wonderful first Christmas. :D ......Santa (grandma) was a major supplier of presents this year !!

Merry Christmas to you !

Congrats Grandpa! Won’t belong and that grandchild will be asking to take one of your cars out on a date. :lol_hitti

I can't wait for that title (grandpa) for myself. Still about 8-10 years out I hope.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Dave, it's been a few months, how are you? Congratulations on your new role as grandparents. I beat you by a little, I have two, 10 and 8. You've already seen first hand how easily they take to their new grandma role. I have found that doesn't stop :bounce: They always have a reason to give them something. It just boggles my mind to think off in the future of a grandson growing up around you and getting to go play over at grandpa's. He will be a car guy from the beginning....lucky kid :lol_hitti

Have a Merry Christmas xmas

Thanks for the compliment. America is the land of opportunity and not of entitlement. Find a true need and fill it, find a real problem and solve it, do it better than anyone else for a reasonable price, focus on making your customer fully satified and treated with respect & high regard, treat your people as highly valued PEOPLE, not tools for your business, do this consistently day in and day out for years and you will achieve financial success. Not easy nor fun sometimes. However, I'd rather have a demanding client or a difficult customer than a boss any day.

Good luck - Dave

Dave, first off, two thumbs WAY up! My father has a small (when I say small, I mean SMALL) Mobil collection, including a restored Tokheim (sp?) pump at his house. The cars, amazing, but that also goes without saying... lol

This quote from you is something that I read several times. I then copied it to my computer's notepad and saved it. I showed my wife this whole thread and showed her the quote. I believe that you truly know what it takes to have true happiness and success. I hope to one day have a successful company to call my own with a small picture on the wall with this exact quote. :) Thank you for being a true inspiration.

No truer words have been spoken, and this is something I fear most American's have forgotten or just simply choose to ignore now a days.

I hope everyone can learn a lesson from Dave, that through honest hard work, dedication, integrity, balance and an impeccably strong personal and business ethic anything is possible.

oooops! I forgot to throw in 'good taste' too!

I'm good - thanks for asking. Great to hear from you and thank you for the nice words. I am thinking about how I can get a child's car seat in one of the Lambos. Might have to change the diapers twice as fast from 3rd gear on up though !!

Congrats yourself on your two grandchildren. I may need to consult you for some advice on managing Grandma though!

Merry Christmas to you & your family !

As mentioned alot , very nice palace, I mean garage. I do love the gas station collection, and was wondering if you have the full size Sinclair dino somewhere? I also seen your Western Auto sign is missing the arrow, I just seen two of those signs on CL. I have a Sinclair sign that I belive came from a refinery ,maybe. Its in three pieces and porclean about 17 - 20 feet long and about 3 feet high, has holes where it once had neon tubes. Anyway I think you should write a book , I'm sure it would be the next "Think and grow rich", positive thinking message. Congrate grandpa, life is good, and God Bless the U.S.A!

BUGTHUG -

Thanks for the kind words - much appreciated. I don't have a Sinclair Dino. There are many versions of the Dino, but decided to stick with Sinclair globes & a few porcelain signs - those would fit in my garage.

This photo is of my Lamborghini Gallardo in my driveway during the summer.

Here is the same car in disassembly -- I developed a small, but persistent, main seal oil leak which required replacement of the seal. This is how the car looks with the rear end off the car, the 6-speed manual trans sitting on the floor in the foreground and the rear body facia resting on a support platform in the front of the work area. Sorry for the crappy photo quality as it was taken with a phone-camera. That is a black Gallardo on the lift next to my car.

All is well now and no more oil drips on the floor.

Lambo **** - it should be banned from the internet :)

Glad you got the old girl fixed! I simply can't stand leaks on the floor - it drives me crazy :willy_nil

Just came across this thread by the link in your sig. VERY amazing shop and collection (though you should really get a 911 Turbo in there somewhere ;)). Thanks for sharing, and congratulations on your success.

Late to the party here, but what a truly incredible collection of automobiles and buildings you've got there. I'll admit that I'm a Pininfarina/Ferrari enthusiast over the exotics company that once made tractors... a lineage I'll never let it forget. I'm happy to see though that you don't have a Lambo in the electric green that is all too common - I can't stomach that color.

What you've done here is amazing. It's even more exciting to read your posts and come to find you as a humble individual who isn't as showy and self-involved as most at your level of success and financial independence.

I'll check back in a while and see what became of that post you wrote about looking at the F430s. When the time comes that I am able to purchase one of those, I'll be looking for a Tour de France blue, 6 speed. The F430 will soon be realized as the iconic model that was the last of Ferrari's manual gear boxes... a tragedy, in my opinion.

Thank you for sharing this all with us. It's such an inspiration. Best wishes,

Ryan

Thanks for the nice comments ! ...but OUCH -- on the tractor company observation / zinger though !! That one hurt.....

I love the prancing horse brand also. I agree with you on the F430s. A blue 6 speed with an off-white or light beige-leather interior would make me smile, for sure. There is something simple and fantastic about a manual trans that an E-gear will not deliver.

In defense of the Lambos, AWD for the drivetrain is a blessing for the less skilled drivers among us (namely me) to help avoid putting the car into a guardrail. :3gears:

Thank you again for looking and for your very nice comments - most sincerely appreciated. Happy that you enjoyed looking through the thread.

It's such a rare color to come by, which I think is one of the things I love about it. Yes, rossa corsa has its place in the world, but the breathtaking look of any F-car in that pearlcoat blue stops my heart!

2008_ferrari_430_2dr_convertible_spider_tour_de_france_blue_94927576925244175.jpg

And I can appreciate the AWD aspect of the Lambos. My daily is an A4 Quattro and I very much enjoy knowing that (almost) no matter how quickly I downshift on an offramp and let the engine rev, all 4 tires are staying planted firmly on the ground. Ferrari is introducing the FF soon which will be AWD but the look is horrendous in my opinion.

As for the tractor comment......

This has always been one of my favorite garages. Thanks for sharing pics with us. I'm pretty sure I read through this whole thread awhile ago.

Wow awesome garage cars and memorabilia. Sounds like you have worked hard to achieve what you have. It is good to hear that you think of your employees as your extended family.

I am always amazed at the lack of variation shown by some people's car collections. Here is a garage full of rear wheel drive 2 seater GTs, all pretty much the same; Dodge, Ford GT, Lambos etc. If I had the funds I would enjoy selecting cars from various decades or mix up convertibles, saloons and GTs form different eras. Each to their own I know but not my cup of tea.

Rich -

Thanks for looking and for posting, but you really don't know your cars very well.

Both Lambos are all-wheel drive; not rear wheel drive as you have incorrectly stated. :lol_hitti

The Vipers are front engined V10s, the Ford GT is a mid-engine supercharged V8, the Lambo Gallardo is a small displacement, high rev mid-engine V10 and the Murcielago is a larger displacement mid-engine V12.

The Mercedes S55 AMG is front engine, supercharged V8 highway missile & a sedan (not a two seater as you stated) with paddle shifters, and the CTS-V (again a sedan, not a two seater as you stated) is a manual transmissioned sleeper.

Each car is actually very different from the others and VERY far from the same; contrary to your assertions that they are "pretty much the same". The two Vipers are really the only two cars that are "pretty much the same" in this group. However, you need to own and drive them to understand the differences in model year engines.

I have owned muscle cars, and a ton of Corvettes, as well as having driven and owned many, many types of cars over the years - including convertibles. The cars I own and that reside in this garage are some of my personal favorites out of the vehicles I have driven and have direct experience with. You don't know what I have in my garages at my house in Florida, so you should not assume that this reflects the sum total of the cars I own.

These cars are indeed my "cup of black coffee" as most don't drink tea on this side of the pond !

Great garage! Good comeback above

but indeed you are missing a 911. I'm guessing you have one (or more :dunno: ) in your other home... I'm a bit biased (as my 911 is the fav from my 'collection') but how do you compare them to the Lambo and the gt40?

Ah well, no offence intended and I'm sure none taken. Love the garage by the way.

Lambos and other exotica are not where my particular area of interst so no, I don't take a close interest in them but I do class them as broadly similar in that they are all powerful GT/Coupe 'supercars'.

Wow! Awesome garage. Just curious what are the daily drivers? You mentioned a Cadillac CTS-V. Also, any pics of the property or main house? I have 10 acres, mostly pasture, but hope to do more with it some day.

Great collection...I too dream of one day owning a collection such as yours. My sights are set high and hopefully I will at least get partway there. A guy I know has a Ford GT, he lives about 10 miles from me. I have seen it several time but do not know the guy well enough to ask for a ride. It truly is a stunning car and my favorite of the supercars. I have a small collection now, just common motorcycles, dirtbikes and the like but it's nice enough for me currently. Hopefully one day it will grow into a collection that I can be proud of. On a side note, a guy from another forum I frequent has 4 GT's. His parents bought them all brand new, 2 basically have zero miles on them....just kept in a climate controlled garage and run enough to keep them working properly. One has about 1000HP and the other one is completely stock still. They drive the 2 pretty frequently.

From one Dave to another - welcome to GJ!

I too share the same respect for all the wonderful people that made a sacrifice in one capacity or another to allow us to live in a free country. It is quite the blessing and I am very grateful for it.

Great garage and great cars! Very enjoyable to look through the pictures of them. Any other fun hobbies you enjoy?

I truly enjoyed your posts. Like you, I too attended engineering school, then graduate engineering school and finally law school. Started my own engineering/law firm in 1982 and never looked back. Your comments on being the son of the greatest generation are right on, as well as living in the greatest country. You are also correct, being educated, working hard, taking risks, and staying out of debt are the key to success. Also add a degree of LUCK. My dad always told me that luck favors those who are prepared.

I play with antique cars and share your interest in gas pumps. If you ever get to Michigan look me up.

cranejon -

Many thanks for looking through the thread and for your kind comments.

Congrats on your professional & business successes. I have a good friend who is both a P.E. and has a JD - brilliant guy and the hardest working person I have ever known. We are indeed fortunate to have had the privilege and the luxury to live during a relatively peaceful time in world history (no true world wars). Our parents' generation, and all of our forefathers, made so many sacrifices to provide the environment in which we live today.

You wrote "My dad always told me that luck favors those who are prepared." Well, in my opinion your father was / is a very wise man.

Certainly the economy is currently challenging, but this isn't the Great Depression - those who lived through the Great Depression will attest to that fact; so I am thankful & very grateful for all of the opportunities that have been available to us.

Best regards - Dave

... My dad always told me that luck favors those who are prepared....

My Grandfather had a slight twist on this same thought, he would profess that "a person makes their own luck" through being prepared, hard work, paying attention to the details, covering all the bases, etc...

I've benefited by his wisdom and I appreciate/admire when others have lucked into earning their fortunes.

Good for both of you.
