Went down to the local Pawn-Exchange today and got a good tool deal. I was looking through their drills and found a brand new Ryobi for $70. High price, but it was 30% tools today. So for $49 I was like okay. SO the lady goes and gets the batteries and it turns out it is the Ryobi P824 kit with the circular saw.

So for $50 I got a 18V drill, circular saw (which I will never use), two batteries and a charger. Not a scratch on anything, the saw blade was still in the packaging.

Is Ryobi good stuff or....

That is a decent price for that set. When I bought mine I thought that little saw was the dumbest thing I had ever seen. It turns out it as handy as any tool I own. For a few quick cuts on small stuff you can't beat not having to drag cords out.

and self-solicitation for a yousuck is against the law.....

While the rules for "You ****" awards are clearly un-written, they also clearly state that you cannot award, nominate or suggest yourself for a "You ****" award. The penalty for doing so is to wait till the next guy comes along with as good or better deal, and be the first to nominate him.

I don't own any of the lithium ion.........they might be better, but I have had to buy as many as six to eight of the standard 18 volt types to get two that will hold a charge. I stared the summer with ten NEW batteries. I have, maybe two, that will hold a charge for more than a couple of hours.

The lithium batteries are definitely much better than the old batteries. I was planning on buying a new set of tools until I upgraded batteries. One of the large lithium batteries last me as long as three of the standard batteries so I'm now happy with the kit. If you are the average DIYer then Ryobi will serve you well but I don't think they would hold up well to everyday professional use.

The Ryobi tools themselves are great and hold up well. As stated above, it's the batteries that give out. I've got a 8-10yr old Ryobi 14.4v drill that WILL NOT give up, I just have to buy a battery about once every 18 months.

Mine have. 10 years doing industrial automation (plus all my home projects), and they've held up great. I do need to pop for some of the lithium ion batteries though.
