What does everyone think of 1/4" dual 80s?

I was thinking of picking up a TF72 but I've heard mixed reports on the 1/4" dual 80s. Mostly its complaints about how they aren't as smooth as the their 3/8" and 1/2" cousins. What do you guys think?

Problem is teeth are different which different feeling...

But I don't give a damn feeling.. I do care as it is strong and only need smaller swing arc to make it work... I use my t72, tf72 a lot and it still work normal. Even I tried to test as see if I can get mine break or strip. It won't... So it is work good for me...

My T72's selector lever is junk. It gets stuck and refuses to move, gets knocked out of position easily and locks the ratchet up. Brand new ratchet too. I got tired of messing with it today and put it back in the box in favor of my Matco AR3T.

I love my T72. No problems and use it all the time. Loved the sealed design as well. Dropped it in a pail of coolant a while back, wasn't worried at all. Took my time, fished it out and wiped it off.

My T72 is not a smooth as my T860, but it's not an issue for me. I like how my T72 can handle 90 ft. lbs of torque. It's my go to ratchet at work (large commercial aircraft, heavy maintenance).

I had issues with my T860, and it now sits in my toolbox seldom seeing any use.

I favor mine over all my other 1/4". Incredibly smooth and always works. I have put some serious torque on that thing and yet to have a problem. Never sticks, selector switch is always smooth as well. It is not quite as smooth as the 3/8 but is still amazing.

Then get it rebuilt. Sounds like the one in a few that has a bad part. I could say the same of the Matco ratchets from my personal experience.

I love mine, I've got the T72, TF72, and the TL72. Can't say a bad thing about them. I have the Matco 88T 1/4" drive as well. It's a nice ratchet, the snap-on stuff is just made/sealed better. I actually had a problem with the matco jamming up on me. I had to take it apart to fix it every time. My dealer ended up changing out the internals for me and it's been flawless ever since.

I despised my TF72 so much I got rid of it. I just don't like the selector on these small pear head ratchets. I was always accidentally hitting it in awkward positions and especially during flex.

Give me a round head 1/4" any day.

I'll chime in and say that I dont like the handle.....too skinny for my preferences. In the 1/4" ratchets I actually prefer the c-man 'thin profile' that I have at home.....I know I know....I just said I like a c-man tool more than a snappy.

Going to call a shrink to have my head examined.....:lol_hitti

For a fine tooth 1/4" I think I would go with matco, also williams makes a really nice long 1/4" flex head ratchet (a 36 tooth ratchet) and only $25. The craftsman premium 1/4" is nice but not a flex head.

I have had a T72 for a couple of years. I think I've used it twice. The handle is too small for me. It just doesn't suit me as much as the RHFT or Thin Profile CMan ratchets. I like the F80 better, but still use my old Matco 3/8 more often. The Dual 80 ratchets are fine, they just don't do anything special for me.

If your on any kind of a budget, I would say, get an SK.

I have a Snap-On 30 tooth 1/4", and an SK round head 1/4" ratchet.
I really prefer the Sk, mostly just because of the handle. It's a little beefier, and it's knurled.
Normally I prefer smooth handles, but on something as small as that, I really think the knurling is a good thing.

I would have definitely gotten an SK tuff1 ratchet if they were still in business but I've heard bad things about their quality control in their final days and don't want to be bothered trying to exchange a bad ratchet. But I have an SK palm control ratchet and it is the smoothest ratchet I've ever felt and has stood up to plenty of tight bolts.

You could post a "want to buy" on the classifieds for an older one.
You could probably buy 2 or 3 for the price of one Snap-On.

A 1/4" ratchet isn't something I would expect to wear out anyway though. It's not like your likely to put a whole lot of torque on it.

:shocking:

In that case a 1/4" breaker bar would probably be the better tool.
Can't say that I wouldn't have done the same thing though.

IME if it's tight enough quarters your using a 1/4 dr on a bell housing your probably not going to get a breaker bar on it.Breaker bars are pretty limited as to where the handle ends up.

when it's 3am, you've been working for hours and you're covered in gearbox oil you'll use whatever the hell works. In my case, it was a TF72! :)

i have 2 of those same sk ratchets they are pretty good except one broke and no way to warranty it. I have the regular snap on 1/4" and a cman thin profile, all 3 ratchets are great, but I wish i had the dual 80, I want the real long flex one too. But not going to spend the $$$ on 1/4" most of the time i use an air ratchet.

i have the craftsman thin rpofile 60 tooth and a snap on t72, snap on is great, craftsman gets broke now and then from tto much towue and i bust the pawl, but otherwise theyre both good, the snap on is babieb by me and is only like underdash and sensor work, so i cant say its hard use reliability
