Cracked SnapOn Air Hammer

I'm looking for some suggestions on what to do with this snap on air hammer. I bought it off ebay (the seller mentioned it had a cracked body)

I have a good friend that can weld almost anything. Do you think this would be best suited for the trash can or worth attempting to weld it back together?

Welding steel and aluminum are two very different things.
But if he really can weld it, sure, give it a try.

it's probably gonna leak internally, contact a SO dealer, you may be able to have it repaired.
i had my 2050 repaired for around $100

Mine did that,sent it to Snap on for a rebuild.
Came back as a NEW tool,dealer said if they couldn't rebuild,they would replace.

you got lucky tim. that has never happened to me and I have been doing this for 9 years.
if it is too far out of date like yours looks then you might get a tag on it saying that parts are not available.

have you checked to see if the body is still available...

also, you might want to start looking for another used one. if you can find a used one that is not working you can get it for cheap and swap the parts you need.

to weld it, the guy needs to be good at welding aluminum as that os a casting. harder to weld than aluminum stock

I think I heard SO upgrades those to a PH2050 if the housing's busted. Not sure, though. Looks like the bodies are similar.

PH2050 is discontinued so thats not going to happen.

it will get a repair tag saying do not use, unit has not been repaired. do not waste your time and it will cost the dealer shipping charges to tell you sorry.
