They're not really collectible. You can buy each of them brand new. He's asking close to new price on them though. Ridgid makes very nice pipe wrenches but I would rather buy new ones at full price instead of some that have been used heavily. My 2 cents.

I have several I got for next to nothing at garage sales and barn digs where they were next to free. I guess he must use them in his line of work and they have a very high value to him. I would give him $2 a piece.

A red state.
I can pick them up here for $3.00 at garage sales.

Agreed. With the demise of residential plumbing using galvanized pipe, there's a glut of used pipe wrenches and threading equipment on the market for a hell of a lot less that they would bring a few years ago. The guy is living in the past.

I picked up a like new Ridgid 14" aluminum with crapy paint at a pawn shop last year for less than ten bucks.

I'm not a "crack smoker" but I do have a Ridgid pipe wrench that IS truly vintage and truly rare for its condition.

I was at a client's office this morning taking photos for their website when we starting discussing old US made tools after I noticed they had an old Reed vise in use. The company owner said to come back to his office after I got done because he has something to give me. When I went to his office he pulled out these black Ridgid pipe wrenches and asked if I had ever seen them before. Of course I said that I have Ridgid pipe wrenches in my collection. He said, "but are they black?"

These pristine wrenches were made before World War II and then after the war Ridgid started painting all of their wrenches orange or red. Also note the "guarantee sticker."

Does anyone have an educated guess as to what they are worth? My guess is at least $30 for the 8-inch and maybe $20 to $25 for the 6-inch wrenches. Enjoy the photos.

Thanks for looking,
Steve

Are you sure theyre Pre-WW2? I had a set of black Rigids on my big toolbox in the Army - circa 2004.

I'm ABSOLUTELY SURE these are pre-WW2!

Take a closer look at the guarantee sticker and the boxes they came in. I really have no reason to think my client is lying to me about this and he gave me the wrench for nothing without any conditions. Besides, the guy is well into his 80s or 90s and probably bought them new himself before WW2.

If you have a set from the military then I would guess maybe they are special ordered to "mil specs."

Hell, it might even be possible YOUR military wrenches are pre-WW2! :)

I'm former USAF (Vietnam vet) and I don't think the military ever had a lot of NEW stuff! :D
