37$ is NOT alot for that ratchet. If its the same guy everybody is buying from your probably not going to find it much cheaper. MSC was selling these ratchets for like 2-3X what I had payed

As for these ratchets, They are nice, but lately I have been getting annoyed with mine, and I am glad I did not invest in a 1/4 or 1/2 drive as well. The reverse lever is a tad bit obnoxious and it is very easy to reverse, so I can be spinning something off and accidentally hit the reverse lever and the ratchet gets bound up for a second. Not the end of the world, but an inconvenience none the less. It has its place for sure, but It is not the first one I grab.

hahaha.

Its a nice ratchet, its very nice to use when your ratcheting something "traditionally" but when you go to spin something off real quick (you know what I mean) it is VERY easy to hit the reverse lever. Snap On, Craftsman, Matco, SK, etc are all better for that than this ratchet, but like I said, The action is very nice whe yoru ratcheting something off normally.

Bringing this one back to the top. I had asked about this ratchet in a 1/4" drive size and never found one. Welp, I found one ... only catch is I have to purchase 5 other ratchets to get it! :D

Linky Thingamadoogie - eBay

I saw that auction and was thinking about going for it.

Does anyone have any of those small headed ratchets? The look interesting...

I have a set of the small headed Stanley's, MSC used to always have the 3pc set on sale for 19.95. The heads ARE much smaller than a normal ratchet, and have 72 teeth.

I got one after getting the 3/8 and 1/2". One finally showed up on Ebay and I snatched it so I've got a "set". Have to admit, its not near as smooth as its bigger brothers, I like my old raised panel craftsman better. But it is handy as a second 1/4".

grainger doesn't have that specific ratchet ... I think they are discontinued, thus the reason we see so many in 3/8 and 1/2 ... but can't figure out why no 1/4

A 1/4" on ebay, if anyone is still looking...
Linky Linky

Got it! The auction ended today before I could get home to check it, but I sent an email to the seller offering to buy it for the listed price. She took me up on it.

Got the whole set now!!! Life is good!!!

Thanks again Wilbit!

Wondered if you would get it. Let us know what you think when it comes. As I've posted before mine doesn't seem as smooth as the bigger ones. But still a very nice ratchet.

To be quite honest, I haven't gotten to use it yet.

Mine is smooth, although it is more course than my other 1/4 drive ratchets (Craftsman, Snap On & SK). I think its a very very nice ratchet for the money.

I just received the proto big dawg style 3/8" and 1/2" I really like the finish and ratcheting action.

Still on the fence about the proto 1/4" version due to rougher teeth, alot of times I use 1/4" because it is tight and therefore I think finer teeth will be more useful there.

The best 1/4" is when I used my gear wrench with a socket adapter which gives 5* swing and very slim profile.

To resurrect an old thread...again...is this the ratchet you guys are talking about? I've been hearing a lot of good things about Proto, so I wanted to make sure I was looking at the right thing...

I can't get the pictures to enlarge - the ratchet head reads
"USA Professional"
"Proto"
"5249P"

Re: Got a proto ratchet... GET ONE!!! - Better do it soon!

According to some folks at Stanley-Proto, they will start replacing the current line of ratchets with palm control ratchets from Facom. SD
