On Sunday I was trying to take the roll bar off my Jeep. It's held on with size T45 torx bits.

Well, there REALLY stuck, I've soaked them with pb blaster and still some of them won't budge.

Well, I put my Snap-on T45 bit on an impact gun (I know, I know...)
The first two broke free, but the torx bit, bit the dust on the third one.

And now, for everyone who thinks you have to chase down a Snap-on truck to get anything replaced.....
I emailed them at [email protected], and sent a picture of the broken bit. And gave them the part number, as well as my name and address.

Well, that was on Sunday, they shipped the replacement on Monday, and now it's Wednesday, and I'm holding the new torx bit.

THAT is what I call good service.

I have been told of one dealer handing a customer a rebuild kit for the hand ratchets and this dealer will not install them.Customer has to install them.A person I graduated told me this and knows this guy very well.

WTF does this have anything to do with the OP's post? Someone told me something once to.

I shouldn't done that.I took one screwdriver down to the dealer down the road in my area,he has a good eye.The tip was ground down a little bit which he saw and I said it was chipped.Replaced the shank with no problems

It sure did not take very long for this thread to head in the direction of so very many other threads.

My wifes brothers cousins uncles mechanic once told me that aliens are in control of the Fox Network.

I had to show my customers how to rebuild ratchets for the last 4 weeks. My right forearm is fractured and it hurts like hell to turn a screwdriver or apply pressure to anything. so i do not rebuild them now. the guys like to do it on their own.

This one time I went on the Snap-on truck with a broken tool. The dealer handed me a new one. The only thing he asked was if I needed anything else. He seemed happy to exchange it so I bought some other stuff while I was on the truck.

Lol, I'm not a Snap-on fanatic, the prices are a little to rich for my blood. (being just a weekend wrencher)
But to complain about the warranty is nonsense from what I've seen.

There is a book by Sewell called "Customers for Life" that explains this business philosophy. Nordstrom is another company that bends over backwards to make sure you are a satisfied customer.

If you think about it, what's the worst case cost to SO to do this for you? Maybe $50 or even $100 including customer service staffing costs? That is a f'kn bargain to them. Here we are writing about this giving them free pub that they could never pay for, even if they wanted to. It reinforces their brand and it makes them even stronger in the process.

The other thing to realize is that you have something in your possession with their name on it that broke, for whatever reason. Could you imagine the negative pub that is at risk if you went off here saying bad things about them? The damage could be devastating, especially in a forum like this.

There could be a very reasonable explanation like MrShaun gave. Who knows. My buddy had to have surgery on his wrists and even though his hands looked fine it was all he could do to operate a fork to eat dinner for weeks.

It would be great if just for once a thread weather it's about a snap on tool or a harbor freight tool or anything in between could at least halfway stay on track.

I don't have a snap on dealer and have called snap on and they send me rebuild kits and I rebuild my own ratchets. I'm happy to take the 5 minutes or so to rebuild them when the parts are free.

And something I can't stand is when someone starts saying "my friend's uncle bla bla bla bla" And it seems like one certain person on this forum is always doing this.

To the OP, glad you had a good experience. The couple times I have had to deal with snap on warranty issues I have been very pleased.

I took a broken socket to my local Snap-On guy and instead of replacing it, he punched me in the face and threw me off his truck... what's up with that?

OK, actually so far I've only warrantied a few items by mail and it's been 100% painless. There's a SO truck that stops across the street from my house at the lawnmower/yard equipment place but I haven't managed to catch him yet.

My Snapon guy has been good to me, I had two black hard handled screwdrivers with broken handles, I first asked it he had a replacement handle or could get one and unfortunately couldnt so he gave me a a whole new one, the second one the handle had completely come off, it was a giant flat head almost like a prybarm he didnt question it at all and offered me a replacement for it to since he had no handles but I declined because it was giving to me by my grandfather and had his markings on it, It now has a harbor freight prybar handle. My point is I have never had an issue with S/O it's a top notch company

for the most part ive never had an issue with SO warranties.

never even been questioned about a tool not being replaced, even with evidence of misuse.

i abuse my tools, and dont ask for warranty on something i broke with 8 ft of pipe or beaten on with a sledgehammer.

i had a broken slide on one of my roller cabs, happened to catch the SO man one day, just asked if he could get a set of slides, i'll pay for them, makes no difference to me.
got me a new set, and even replaced them for me :)

I've never had a Snap-on warranty problem. Not a one. Matco no problems either, but I am one lucky guy, both of my tool dealers are incredible. Can't say that enough. MAC, well lets not go there. The guy could care less.

i agree, every mac dealer ive run into in the last 13 years has sucked....

no stock in the truck, "my tools are better than brand X tools"
attitude, ive been waiting since early november for a ratchet repair kit, and a replacement for a broken 19mm swivel impact socket.

f em

the dealer dont care, corporate dont care,
i'll buy tools from someone who does......

Right.
They just asked me to "Please scrap the old one once you get it."

So, yes, excellent service!

I prefer to to my own also. I guess that there are probably a lot of techs out there that have never taken theirs apart to clean and lube them. Since I retired I keep a kit on hand for every ratchet that I own. When I initially bought them they were only something like five bucks apiece. I just swapped out a used kit from my 30 year old SL715 with my local dealer today. The guy that thought up attaching a detent plunger to the spring, rather than the old loose ball bearing, deserves a medal.

On a side note, the new kit that I received for a spare today (RKRA711) has a red and white "filler" plate. The prevvious kit had a black and white filler plate as did the original one in the ratchet. Both were 32 tooth kits. Does anyone have an idea if the colors mean anything?

Thanks!

A few months ago I asked my dealer to rebuild my FC936 (I think, the older 3/8" drive in 1/4" body) since it started to skip on occasion.

The ******* wouldn't rebuild it!

Oh yeah, he was in a hurry, so he handed me a brand new FC72 instead

I've never had a negative experience with Snap-On's warranty services.
