Strength of SL936 vs SL80

Just wondering, can the Dual 80 take the extra torque of the long handle? I always thought the 936 was a stronger design. Is that true?

I think the Dual-80 1/2" ratchets are rated at something like 700lb/ft.

I have seen someone break a numer of them though.

i abuse mine on a daily basis and have actually done things with it that it shouldn't have been able to do.it's pretty damn strong.

the dual 80 system is strong. no doubt. but one thing i noticed on the SO website it that their 'high strength' ratchets are the 936 series. i don't know if this means anything but just something i noticed.

The dual 80 ratchets are the strongest ratchets that Snap-on has made. There is more surface area of engagement between the pawl and main gear than any of the previous designs.

how are the rebuild ratios compared to the 936

i has been breaking SLF936 as pawls keep failures.... so i had to got a SLX80... it help me a lot... i had brought my SLF936 to home for home use so i dont need to bring it between work and home...

i fixed 936 1/2 ratchets weekly.
the pawl broke real easy.
the 830 could take a beating, but when it broke it would take out 4-5 teeth at once and usually hurt you in the process.....

i had a shlf80 that i was jumping up and down on to try and break loose a 1" bolt

sheared the drive head off flush with the coverplate, gears were still smooth as silk though, theyre damn strong

my tank guys have done that to a couple of 80 tooth the 830 and 936 series shave off all the teeth in the head long before they could break the 1/2 drive off.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a like new sl936 off of ebay for $100.00. Its a good upgrade from my craftsman ratchet. I don't use it every day on our farm, but last week I used it for adjusting the blower paddles for clearance on our John Deere 6750 self propelled chopper and it worked nicely. It was long enough to break free the nuts and re-tighten them down. I didn't have any problems with it.
I would say its one of there stronger ratchets.

probably from abuse from the extended use of a long pipe.

I've broken the drive off a few 830s but never recall doing it to a 936. I havent really put any of my Dual 80's to any challange (and doubt I ever will) to see what the limits are. I found the 830 needed service far less often than the 936 but they were still great ratchets. I'm pure in love with all my dual 80s though. I'm sure if I was still a working tech all my other ratchets would be sitting at home and nothing but Dual 80's and some F100's would be in my box at work. Even in the termoil of the USA stamp missing and God knows where the internals are made they are by far my favorite ratchets no matter if they were built in India.
