If you go to Mechanic Time Savers website you notice an American flag flying at the bottom of the home page and most other pages. In addition if you click the "warranty" link at the bottom of the page the popup clearly states that all MTS products are made in the US.

I just ordered my first MTS product, the magna rail from Tooltopia. When it arrived today, on the shrink wrapping, I see the words "Made in China" looking back at me. I'm not a Buy America or don't buy at all, I have tools from all over the world and in the same order I knowingly bought some chinese and taiwanese tools. But when I knowingly shell out the extra money for Made in USA products, I expect to get what I paid for.

I don't know what the motive is behind doing something like this, other than to be able to charge more money for the product. This is outright lying about your product.

tooltopia doesnt have the best customer relations, plus they themselves dont say its made in the USA so he has zero argument for a full refund, in the end all he's going to accomplish my sending it back is eating the shipping fees. Keep it but send a nasty email to MTS directly would be my vote.

happens to everyone once in a while. and it is frusturating. i'm like you, i don't necessarily care if something is made overseas, but when its is supposed to be US made and is not, there's a problem.

Tooltopia has nothing to do with this. They did not make any false claims, no hard feelings there. MTS is the manufacturer, that's who I have a beef with. I tried calling today but they had just closed I guess. I will call tomorrow and demand they take their made is USA claim off their website.

MTS Probably didn't remember to update their web site yet. I bought a electric photo eye at Ace the other day, said on the package "Made in China", normal I thought. Pleasantly surprised upon opening on the eye itself marked "made in Mexico". Not US but better than China.

Its disappointing but not surprising; as time goes on... I've noticed more and more tools that USED to be made in USA... now marked CHINA! No one seems immune to the lure of cheaper OEM products; this seems especially so for plastic items like these! :( Please post MTS response to your email inquiry! Their rationale would be interesting to hear; I have a sense that what they say, has been heard before! :(

sorry there was a post between yours and mine with someone telling you to return it and "vote with your wallet", apparently it up and vanished. I just didnt agree with that seeing as you bought it from tooltopia and a return would hurt you more than the manufacturer.

Interesting. I was checking out some MTS socket holders on the tool truck. All were USA-made. Maybe they were older. I got the MTS rebranded Blue Points that are still USA made. Maybe they are or have switched over their production. I wonder when?

Problem is, everyone's getting hammered on price, and feels the pressure to do whatever they have to do.

That said, hats off to mfr's who can continue to make in the US, either because of a niche product, or better operational practices that save money or whatever.

Bo that is disappointing ,thinking your getting something made here and it winds up being from China.

I have some of their products and they are made in the USA , specifically the Magna Caddy socket holders and the 680 series wrench holders.
Mine are Blue Point branded through Snap On , see links.

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...group_ID=17145&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...&group_ID=3226&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

Based only on the website, it looks like MTS is a fairly small company.
I know they have been around for quite a while now, and their products are sold by all the tool truck brands and Sears , etc. , etc.

In looking around at their products it shows quite a few that are discontinued / not in stock .

One thing is for certain they sure don't go out of their way to say made in USA for any of their products.
It is not in any of the descriptions of any of the their items.

The American flag is at the bottom of the home page , but that really doesn't mean anything as to COO , as you can be an American company and not make anything here.

You are correct when you click on the warranty tab it does say ALL their products are made in the USA , but you really have to hunt for that info.

I would have to assume that at some point they changed where this was made or when they added this product line they didn't update the warranty tab.

That is one of the pitfalls of buying online , if you could of checked it out in person you could see where it was made as it is clearly marked China.

A good resource is to look at the Snap On site for the identical product , you would of seen that it was made in China , as Snap On is the ONLY tool truck brand to even provide COO info.

MTS makes that Magna Rail in black and red , Snap On carries it in black under the Blue Point brand , see the link.
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...&group_ID=3231&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

They also carry those magnetic panels and all of those are made in China, see the link .
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/tools.asp?tool=storage&Group_ID=13838&store=snapon-store

It looks like the magnetic panels and the products that use them like your Magna Rail are from China ,and the rest of the products are from the USA.

Here is a link to the MTS stuff at Sears, 1 review for your Magna Rail and no COO listed.

When you talk to MTS post up what they have to say about their incorrect info.

I called and the response I got wasn't nearly as nice as this BS. Her word for word answer was, "Oh, that's a new thing we're doing and our website hasn't been updated."

I asked that it be updated soon as possible and her response was, "Why?"

I nearly lost it. I know it's not that girls fault, but what kind of response is that? She transferred me to the manager's voicemail where I left a brief message about my dissatisfaction.

It's tough. We lost the low-end, which used to be good business for us, to the imported **** that you find in Harbor, etc. Not that all imports are ****; some are quality - and that's the scarier part.

Maybe someone should email the owner/ceo and list mention this thread! Probably won't make any difference but would be nice to hear from the boss.... :)

[email protected]

Their website lists a copy write of 2008; so, maybe they don't update their website very often!

Wow...I guess you all would like an explanation...don't blame you!

We have been closed due to ice here in Dallas for the past 2.5 days, otherwise I would have answered sooner. I hope to answer everyone's concerns below...

Bo Heck:
I received a message this morning on my voicemail about your concerns about the website, but you didn't leave a name or number for me to call you back...and I received an email that was forwarded to me about the same time. I had the changes made to the website that you mentioned as well as a few others. THANK YOU for bringing this to our attention.

A little history...at the time our website was last updated, all of our products WERE proudly made in the USA, here in our facilities in Carrollton (Dallas). Since then, we have expanded our product lines AND had begun production in China. We still manufacture many of our products (SKUs) here, but many others are made in China.

We had not kept our website up to date and did not know that our "Warranty" section still said ..."made in the USA" on it. So, we did not have a motive behind this issue. Since it is not on the homepage and a little obscure, it went unnoticed to us. Then I started clicking around and noticed the "Terms and Conditions.." section...now I know why. Regardless, we like having quality products and the website is no exception. We want to have the information on the website as accurate as possible.

We are an American company and proudly display the American flag on our website. We will leave the American flag on the website...we love our country.

Yes, the girl answering the phone is American. She wanted to know "Why" you were upset with the website because she did not know what you were referring to. She had not seen your email before she talked to you. Of course she wanted to know why you were concerned. Her response was honest.

SKIN:
Bo sent an email, but it wasn't nasty.

DRKMTNDEW:
Thanks, it happened to us.

MRHOLESHOT:
"Innocent until proven guilty"...ain't that the truth. We are not your run of the mill, rubber stamping, scripted, copy and paste kind of companies, so don't expect that from us. I did enjoy your form letter...drives me crazy getting those too...that's why we don't send them.

JHELREY:
I know, right? The stickers were bought here in the USA and printed here in house (I don't know if they imported the stickers). The shrink wrap...US, the inserts...US, the pad printing...US, box it shipped out with...US. That product pictured...China...but not priceless.

UNDERDOG:
Exactly, thank you for the benefit of the doubt.

STEPHENW:
??? - I just wanted to include you, but I didn't get the whole post.

BILLYMADE:
I hope you have not heard all of this before. The rationale...we simply didn't pay attention to the website and it wasn't updated...no excuse! Got the thread, makes a difference, hope it was nice to hear from me (not the big boss, but the office manager).

INFIDEL:
Yeah, for most, but not us.

GBZN:
Again, she was honest with you. If you want to know which products are made here in the US, just ask. I personally order from all of our US vendors and know which components are from the US.

VINKO:
Yes, some are still USA made. It's best to look at the sticker on the product. Call us if in doubt...you'll get a faster answer.

DIRTRIDER:
Maybe I'm biased, but my favorite is "government by the people for the people" and of course, in our instance, "innocent until proven guilty".??

BART SIMPSON:
Wow, who are you?! Thank you for your comprehensive post. BTW, MRHOLESHOT...if I WAS going to copy and paste anything...this would be IT!!!

GRAYMILLS - CRAIG:
Hopefully you have experienced a paradigm shift from my lengthy post. "We don't import everything, but when we do...we prefer...top quality products". (What can I say, I like the commercial.) We do the QC here and expect our imported products to be top quality. We warranty all of our products the same.

MALIBULX3:
If you would like to vent, my name is Stephen, ask for me directly, not my extension. The extension lands you in my voicemail. If I am available, I WILL talk to you. And, it doesn't matter if you have or haven't bought an MTS product.

I CAN FIX ANYTHING:
We do not speak Hindi, if that's what you mean. Even more amazing, we are 80% likely to be within 4 hours drive of you...if there is not alot of traffic and your location is "updated". LOL, I had to throw that one in.

Conclusion:
I hope that I have included EVERYONE and answered your concerns.
In short...our website hadn't been updated, no motives intended!
If you do see any inaccuracy, call us immediately. I think we could have it fixed in a shorter amount of time than it took for me to write this post.

Just to clarify, I didn't write the email. I think it was someone else in the thread. Thank you for time you took to share your response. This is the first time I've done something like this so I did not think to leave my name and number for you to reach me.

when i click "warranty" this is what I get ... and no where does it state that all MTS products are made in the US.

Am I missing something? :headscrat

MTS, Thank you for doing something besides sending out the normal BS form letter and for taking the time to reply to all of us. I also own quite a few of your socket holders. I love them and don't mind things that are outsoured (although made in the USA would be much better) as long as the company is being honest about it. I see on the website that some of the socket holders are still marked made in the USA.

I think it was a really stand up move for you to come here and I'm sure it will only help your business. At least it will in my case. Thank You and welcome to GJ

PS now that you are a member of GJ it is manatory to offer a 50% discount on all items for 30 days. Hey it's the rules:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

I'd say that the guys who have said it's an update problem are probably correct. In these days of constant staffing cut backs, I hope that it's more of an error of someone actually taking the time to update it or being given the direction to do it.

To voice your disspleasure is a reasonable thing as long as you do not turn into that guy at McDonalds bitching about the 3 cents he was charged over his Senior coffee price vs the standard price for all of us non old guys
