Well last month it was E-tec's turn. I walk to the mailbox last night and open my new issue of Car Craft is there I open the rag and what to my wondrous eyes should appear but a little black Porsche and a very nice shop. Looks like our own Jack Olsen has the honors this month. Good on ya Jack. Keith

Dammit, my subscription lapsed. Guess I'll probably miss that one, since they take forever to process. Congrats Jack.

Ha! It might look like it's my goal to get a 38-year-old Porsche 911 into the magazines you'd least expect to find one in. It's not, but that's how it's working out. It's been in Grassroots Motorsports a couple of times. There was a brief mention in Hot Rod back in 2004. Now Car Craft.

If this keeps happening, I'm going to have to learn how to launch the thing for the quarter mile. ;)

Jack I havent seen it in Street rodder or Rod and Custom yet :D. I think that might be a little tougher than Hot Rod or Car Craft LOL.

Very nice to see Jack, "this guys garage" is always my favorite section of Car Craft, it was a nice surprise to see a garage I was familier with from this forum

That was a great spread! I won't ask you to do a holeshot if you don't ask me to put my rail into a corner at high speed....on purpose.
Kudos to you Jack.

That is pretty cool. I entered a Car Craft contest back in 1994 to build a '69 Camaro and finished second. My build made the magazine and I got a drawing of my car done by some kid named Chip Foose.

Congratulations Jack! It is a bit out of the norm for CC, but great to see they recognize a car guy and a garage guy!

Way to go Jack. It is deserved for sure. Has to be one of the best garage's around, and to be as small as it is ... simply awesome is all I can say ...

Thank you for the kind words, guys.

Okay. Since E-tek's issue is no longer on the news stands, and the Car Craft web site doesn't seem to have a link for it -- here's a quick snapshot of the article on his garage for the guys who didn't get to see it. (Click on this thumbnail it for an almost-possible-to-read version.)

Fair warning: if Car Craft considers this more than 'fair use' of the spread, I'll take it down.

Congrats, I opened up the issue and thumbed through it to see the Porsche. I knew I had seen that garage before. I recognized it from the color of paint and of course some of your posts on your welding bench and fold up tables.

OK Jack....I see you took my throw-down seriously!!! Seriously though, that was a FAST turn-around on issues....Was it even a month? :headscrat Maybe they're going to go through all the guys in Garage Journal!

What'll happen now is a place called "In the News" will contact you and offer to put the spread on a nice laminated wood frame-board, with the Mast Head on top and a plaque with your name and the issue date below. They'll send it to you and say if you don't like it, just return it. Cost? Nearly $200. I had a feeling that was FULL RETAIL, so I called and said I wanted the return shipping label. Lo' and behold they ask: "if we offered you a discount, would you keep it?"
So I offered them 50% and they took it. Probably could have offered even less....but it is pretty nice (see below).

Did I say congrats? Well, I'll give a bit of a backhander - because you KNOW they're gonna get letters about the Porsche!! (Nearly as many as if they would have put in another Camaro-guys garage!!!:bounce:)

Here's the plaque:

It's laminated to a nice wood base, with a numbered label on back:

Of course I made my own, very simple display, for about $20!

Which I have on one of the several "E-tek Walls of Fame" around our house! ;)

I always heard if you are sent something in the mail you didn't ask for, you could keep it for free.

this ? from usps.

Unwanted/Unsolicited Mail

· Do I have to return unsolicited merchandise received in the mail?

If a company sends you a gift in the mail, but you did not request it, the item is yours, and you are under no obligation to pay anything (regardless of the mail class).

You, the consumer, may only legally be sent two types of merchandise through the mail without your consent or agreement:

o Free samples which are clearly and conspicuously marked as such.

o Merchandise mailed by a charitable organization that is soliciting contributions.

And in these two cases, you can consider the merchandise a gift if you wish. In all other situations, it is illegal to send merchandise to someone, unless that person has previously purchased or requested it.

If you do not wish to pay for unsolicited merchandise or make a donation to a charity sending such an item, you may do one of three things (in each case, by law, you have no obligation to the sender):

o If you have not opened the mailpiece, you may mark it "Return to Sender," and the United States Postal Service will return it with no additional charge to you.

o If you open the mailpiece and do not like what you find, you may throw it away.

o If you open the mailpiece and like what you find, you may keep it for free. In this instance, "finders-keepers" applies unconditionally.

Furthermore, it is illegal for a company that sends you unordered merchandise to follow the mailing with a bill or dunning communication.

If you are aware of violations of the federal law prohibiting the mailing of unordered merchandise, or if you have personally had difficulty with such items--especially if you are sent statements insisting on payment for the merchandise--you should contact you local postmaster or the nearest Postal Inspector.

Note: These rules are codified in Title 39, United States Code, Sect. 3009.

Thanks for the info, but they ASKED if they could send it....went something like this: "We get the artwork and laminate it with this and that....we can send it to you and IF YOU LIKE IT, you can pay for it....if you don't, we'll take it back, no charge to you. Do you want us to do it?"

Sure, sounds very reasonable!

And I'm STILL waiting for my April issue to see Jack's!

Cool. They've got E-Tek's up on the web now:

Here's the link.

Here's a low-resolution picture of mine. Since the text is not legible, I don't think Car Craft will think this is discouraging anyone from getting a copy.

And yes, that's an old* Porsche 911 in Car Craft.

I wonder if getting Garage Journal's web address in there will mean an influx of new muscle car guys.

I HOPE SO - I ALSO HOPE CC DOESN'T GET A BUNCH OF HATE MAIL FOR POSTING YOUR PORSCHE!!:bounce:

Odd thing is, they think they're gonna get hate mail for bringing back "On the Rack"...but they brought it back in a way NO red-blooded male should EVER complain about!!:bowdown:

Well if they called you first that would be different. If it was mine, I'd buy it too.

Question for Jack and E-tek, how did they find out about your garages ?
