No name anywhere.
It's stamped 6450081 USA
171295 ROC
Then the same on the other side, but the USA and ROC overstrike the end of the numbers.
Has 24 tooth rat. smooth. The end cap is a 1/3rd turn, and holds 10 bits, with 1 in the chamber:)

No idea, but it looks tidy :thumbup: Seriously, it looks like a nice piece of kit, and I like the clean look about it.

What is the ratcheting action like on it, and how does it feel? Sturdy, or a bit fragile? And the Ratchet direction selector and end cap, are they plastic or metal?

Are you keeping it? :bounce:

The ratchet action feels good and crisp, like a good 1/4" ratchet, not something with stamped pawls.Sturdy, yep I've cranked on it, no problems no skips.
The "gear shift" is metal not plastic.
And the end cap is thick plastic, but it's not a "pill bottle" pop on. You have to turn it 1/3 of a turn to remove, and it's tight, if there were no bits inside, one would think it's solid.

Am I keeping it? Hell yes. It works WAY better than that SNAP ON one I have------Wait, I don't have a Snap On:headscrat LOL

It's funny, when I google the numbers, 'bout all that comes up is this post :lol_hitti

Looks like you have quite a score! I googled it last night, and got just what you got, but the USA number is a patent for something to do with excavators. I even tried the ROC one, and nup, nothing... maybe I'm looking up the wrong numbers, I figured they would be patents, they don't look right for part numbers? :headscrat

And the "Bad" thing about it is, I have no idea where it came from. It just showed up on the floor,under my rollaround, in the shed????:headscrat

And not being a "smart a$$" I figured someone here could say "That was sold by K-Mart for 15 min. in 1974, I have one ":lol_hitti

I have several tools that did that. They are almost always cheap tools that were either purchased impulsively through clearance/garage sale/discount autoparts stores/swap meet/flea market, or someone else left them there.

The tool fairy NEVER drops quality name brand tools in the tool box. Those are the purchases you actually remember making. ;)

Sure is...the patent #'s are the same too.

The Vessel package states that it's "assembled in Japan". So, I have a feeling that Vessel has outsourced the ratcheting mechanism, which is either Chinese or Taiwanese made.

The one Hofferwood posted could be the OEM-produced offering.

I have a couple of those screwdrivers..... no idea where they even came from though also lol :headscrat and mine has no markings on the shank like yours?

I am wondering about the ratcheting mechanism though, I mean from the looks of it, Vessels have that symbol on it, and I've not seen it anywhere else... Monte, where are you when we need you? :D Makes me wonder about "Product of Japan" as opposed to "Made in Japan" as well... :headscrat Having said that though, it has USA and ROC numbers, it might be that the mechanism is registered in both as protection? I dunno, my patent knowledge is nada...

Curious about the OEM stuff though, question is, who is it?

Can you show some pics please! :D If they are different in anyway, it might shed some light on them all... might be a copy, might be for a different market.

This is a little surreal...

I found this post (and this board) by Googling for USA & ROC numbers that I found on a screwdriver that magically appeared in my toolbox. I'd like to know the origin too, since the quality is so good. The funny thing is that my driver looks nothing like the OP's. Mine holds 12 bits in the handle. The cap is threaded. Mine also has a geared mechanical advantage setting (~3.5-1)that the OP hasn't mentioned. The numbers on the shaft of mine are "USA 6450037" and "ROC 171295". I live in Canada, but the bits don't include any Robertson (square-drive) bits, which are very common here, so I have to assume that it's meant for the US market. The name "Falcon Tools" is also screened on the handle, but Google doesn't help with that one. I've included some pics. Let's see if anyone recognizes mine...

Thanks for your pics! Not hear of Falcon tools here, nor seen anything like your one. It looks like the maker of your one has gotten the same ratcheting mechanism as the ones above, but are different assemblers.

Could you tell us about this mechanical advantage setting though please? Not come across this in a ratchet screwdriver before...

There's a black plastic slide that's visible in picture #2. Normally, when engaged, the driver works like any other. When you disengage the slide, then the gearing kicks in. If you hold the black plastic ring steady, then turn the black/grey handle, then the shaft rotates at ~3.5X speed. It's great for backing out long machine screws, although it doesn't have enough torque for wood screws.

Hell with it, for ten quid I'll get it shipped to me, I'm happy with the similarity, and my SO ratcheting screwdriver is far far away at the mo! lol Great find!!

A good point, thanks for that :D Also badged as a Blue Point, looks better than the Wiha version, where the bit holder flips out - makes the handle look like it will flex under load...

that is not made by snap-on or bahco. they have been sold under many names including s-k. i would bet money that the the bottom side of the chrome direction ring says reverse gear, who mfg'd that driver and is located in taiwan.

i have the sk branded one and it is a decent driver but absolutely not made by snap-on.
