Harbor Freight cart to match Snappy box

Has anyone bought any of the Harbor Freight tool carts and had them painted to match your "high dollar" roll cabs?

I have a Candy Apple Red Snap On cab and can't see spending close to $600 for a cart to match. My snappy guy also said that it will cost $75 extra to get any tool cart powder coated from the factory for non standard colors like the candy apple red.

I also had the thought of Rhino lining the entire cart with the Snappy paint code????

Any thoughts or pictures?

Having anything professionaly painted is going to be cost prohibitive. Rhino lining is thick, heavy and difficult to clean. If you are willing to go it yourself, there are several threads here where guys have repainted or restored boxes with good results.

There are other mfgrs. and sources out there for the HF style service cart that is an exact copy (and almost as low a price) of that design but in other colors.

I have a 4-dwr in yellow orig. paint that matches the SO yellow.

I doubt you'll find one in Candy Apple, but repainting yourself is the cheapest route if you have the facility to do so.

And to add to the above poster, I've had 2 collegues that have bought the HF maroon crinkle coat carts and have had them clear coated to rid themselves of the problem of cleaning the shop dust and paint dust out of that paint.
I'd suggest a smooth paint finish cart then respray it to match.

I agree with smooth paint vs textured. I will get an estimate from a paint shop and go from there. Unfortunately I am not set up to paint unless it's from a rattle can.

Dan I think that by the time you buy a HF cart and then " Pay a paint shop to paint it " . The snappy cart might end up being cheaper . I am a HUGE HF fan but if you cant paint it yourself then the cost will be way out of line . I would bet that Snappy carries a touch up paint in Rattle cans that matches your snappy box.

I will ask when he rolls into the shop next week....good thought. All the HF carts come unassembled right? So pull all the parts out of the box, scuff and rattle can.

Sort of. The drawer section comes assembled. Its just the legs, cross braces, base and casters that come as individual pieces. Should rattle can just fine. I thought about rattle canning mine to match my lime green SO box. But since my other box is black, I just left it as is.

Its a pretty decent roller cart for $99.

If you were to repaint the current HF red tool cart with smooth finish wouldn't you have problems with the spray paint scratching off easily? I mean the paint coming out of a spray can you get at HD or Walmart or whatever is not going to be anywhere close to as durable as a powder coated finish am i right? What can someone recommend? I tried spray painting a metal computer case before and I could literally scratch the paint off with my fingernail... Am I missing something?

I you are going to repaint, you will need to treat it like a car and properly scuff, prime, smooth, etc. Otherwise the paint won't stick and be durable.

Powder coating will require that you strip all the paint off the original cart. With proper paint you can sand, prime and paint over what you have now. Much easier.
