Painted my drywall white semi-gloss. I couldn't believe the difference in light in my shop now. With the floor painted Ucoaitit light grey, small nuts and bolts are a snap to find now.

chair rail in a garage, its a garage you know, oil grease, welding sparks. paint it white for the light and build something. chair rail has no purpose in life.

hmmmmm........so let me get this straight, i get **** because i want to put a chair rail in my garage and actually put color in it, BUT a guy who makes his garage to look like new orleans and other people who put black and white checkers down and 5,000$ speckled floor get a big thumbs up? WTF?!!! oh and about the "go build something" my garage is never empty, it is soon to be clear of a 62' mercury, then in will roll a 52' ford, and after that a 53' chevy and so on...just because it will look pretty doesn't mean its not functional!!

I did my man office in two tone grey and have a chair rail of wallpaper border. The border is in a red pattern so it kind of mimics the Goodwrench color scheme.
BTW the border is of a 34 Ford/57 Chevy/49 Merc then repeats.I searched online and found this wallpaper border.I have thought of adding a checkerboard border at top but am still undecided.

My garage will get white walls and baby moons.lol J/K

I got a few rolls of blue masking tape and did some regulation width racing stripes.....since then I've moved but it looked nice I thought.

I may have gone dark grey with an orange/black stripe. Take a look and some of the old racing teams colors and pic your favorite.

Ignore the haters!

I chose semi-gloss white, black stripe and light gray.

Practical and a huge difference in lighting!

Punkabilly don't let them get your goat. Put a divider up at the first sheet rock gap(4feet) and build a nice shelf there. You can paint that a different color or checkered flag it for looks. put a 1x6 or 1x4 at the top of the first sheet and put a small 1X3 ledger board there so you have a dividing line. I am thinking of going with blue on the bottom part and then go with a white semi gloss or a washable egg shell on the top. No one has to use it but you so do what you want. Just remember it has to function as well as look good, so watch the dark colors or be prepared to have a high light bill!

Go for the chair rail. I'd have carpet in my garage if it wasn't for the fact of snow and rain in this area. A chair rail isn't any different than a stripe painted. My other side of the garage that is seperated by a wall has a chair rail painted in white with creme colored walls. Everyone that has seen it has complimented on it.

punkabilly,I got my border thru a Sherwin/Williams website.I don't have an adress but it should be easy to find. They had quite a few colors styles and even some accent walls.I don't remember the accents walls in an auto theme but plenty of choices in borders and wallpaper.

I like semi-gloss white up top and maybe a light grey below. Paint all trim light grey also. Creates a timeless, professional look in my opinion.

Like the picture posted above. It just looks clean and classy to me.

I went with semi white on top and semi grey on the blocks, with grey trim.

I've posted these before, but mines Black/Grey with orange moulding....Harley Style. My garage is for cars, bikes, and for me to hang out at the bar. I spend alot of time in there. Yes it's a bit dark, but the flourescent lights provide plenty of light for me....

Not the greatest pic, but my "chair rail" is a checkerboard paper. British Racing Green on bottom, and Grey above.

I like the above set up for colors. Just a little red acent with the red stripe. I think the light grey helps bring out the red too. This is what I am going to paint in my garage.
