i'm not one for showing off, but my dad is helping me build a 30x60 garage at my house. it has 10ft. walls and a valted ceiling, making it roughly 15 feet to the inner peak (i plan on installing a lift someday). it's taken a little over a year, and we still have the siding to put on. i am getting anxious to use it though. right now, it's just a 30x60 storage unit! we broke ground in october of 2009. we got the concrete done shortly before thanksgiving 09. i took dad's suggestion and paid to have that done. glad i did, as i would still be doing the concrete work and it wouldn't turn out as nice.

started on the walls in january of 2010. had some personal family issues that slowed progress, along with the weather, but it was a start. then, in june or so, i got some buddies from high school to help set rafters. one of them works for a large company and was able to get the lift at no charge! BIG THANKS TO HIM FOR THAT:bowdown:!! then, with help from dad and my wife (yes, she actually helped) i got the plywood up on the walls and roof, and then i roofed for the next 6 weeks off and on. all this made for a long summer!

then, we installed the doors and windows, which were purchased at a local pella scratch and dent sale that is help twice a year. the over head door is a raynor unit, which was professionally installed. i also had a new door put on the house garage, since my wife will be getting a garage stall when this is all said and done. she's never been able to park in a garage, but after 10 years of marriage, she's getting her chance (eventually!). once the doors and windows were put in, my father in law helped me roll out the floor coating. i used a water based epoxy that i got from the concrete company. it comes from arizona polymer flooring, and is a very easy product to use. their website is www.apfepoxy.com. great stuff. when that set up, i finally got to load the building up with cars, parts and other "stuff", and it's now full. currently we have the building in house wrap, and once the ground thaws, i can start on the electrical. hope to have it "done" sometime this summer, but i'm not going to hold my breath. thanks to great friends and family, i'm gonna be in debt for quite a while!!

That's going to a great shop when it's done. What were you guys doing to the antenna ? Taking it down ?

yes, there was an old school tv antenna on the house, that actually wasn't hooked to the house anymore. it messed up the soffit, and i had no idea how to get it down. i had originally planned to drop it in the back yard, but had a brain fart and put up my deck, right where i would have dropped the antenna. my buddy suggested we take it down while we had the crane there, and sent his brother in law up the antenna since he weighed the least. cut it off, walked it across the roof, and layed it down in the front yard. worked great.

Great shop!

I personally would have waited till the construction was done before doing the floor coating. Probably not a big deal though.

don't think it will be a problem. i really needed to start using the garage to move car parts out of the basement, downstairs, upstairs, house garage, yard....... you get my point! wanted to be in the garage before winter hit, and i made it by just a few weeks.

QUOTE=drmoonshine;1365588]Great big garage door what kind of cars do work on.[/QUOTE]

i put the door in to accommodate my big dually. it's a 91 chevy crew cab dually with a 4 inch lift and a pair of cb whip antennas. i didn't want to have to worry about the antennas, and just in case i want to go with a bigger lift on the truck someday........................:bounce:!!!

been awhile, but here are a few more pics. my oldest son helped me get the siding started (5 years old). i also added a small "driveway/parking spot" on the front of the building. this will see some sort of decorative rock next spring. i figure that will look better than white rock if nothing is parked there. we finally had the driveway approach poured this monday, 2 YEARS AFTER WE POURED THE FOUNDATION!! man, that felt good. now i can focus on the electrical, which will be a chore since i have so much stuff in the building. but the yard looks better, which keeps the wife happy.

no, mainly due to the location of the house and garage. i could have moved it back about 60-70 feet, but then i'd have $20k or more in driveway (wouldn't want to do rock), and i would have taken a huge chunk of the backyard away from the kids and dogs (which was the other reason for buying the house in the first place).
