Well a new set goes for $200.00 on amazon.com if id resell it id have to get at least $100.00 considering the shape its in. I figure anything in mint condition is worth half the price of a new one. If someone wants it bad enough, they will have to pay at least that much for it to make it worth while reselling. Otherwise it isn't for sale. I beat a couple guys to it. IF I don't resell it, i will keep it in my truck for emergencies or use it at work.

At first I didn't realize it was 1/2".
You might as well put in the classifieds for $100, if it doesn't sell, you've got nothing to lose.

You got a deal for sure. The set on Amazon that goes for 189 dollars is shallow and deep. Your set has the less desirable rubber handle breaker bar. The not many people like 12 point sockets (I have no issues with them). The fact you can buy a nice 1/2 drive SK ratchet for around 20 dollars doesn't help the case. Resale anywhere from 75-90 dollars. The up side is that it's an excellant set of tools. Socket quality in that set is equal to anything Snap-On builds currently. The ratchets are superstrong although dated. The breaker bars are strong but that rubber handle will come apart as thats the reason SK discontinued it. I'd keep them and use them. That set looks nice enough an SK collector may be all over it at 100 dollars

Definitely a Dresser Industries-era set. After WAYNE (1969) but before FACOM (1985). Can't read the city on the logo. I believe Chicago would be earlier Dresser and Franklin Park was later (like mine)

Amazon is way overpriced and not an accurate gauge of value. I bought my new SK 4047 impact set for $233 shipped to my door with a popular online tool wholesaler not even a month ago and Amazon's price is $314 including shipping or $90 more than I paid.

The most accurate way to determine value is to put it up for sale and see what happens. You asked people for their opinion on value. Dont be defensive when people just happen to tell you the value you place is differant. The person you bought it from valued it at 50 dollars. Your value already seems higher than that of the previous owner. Only the new owner can put the real value down

I second pipsters opinion. A quick Google search on the set your comparing it to came up with a $117. dollar price another at $121. Last summer I had a similar NOS 1/2 drive set, a little older than yours, and I couldn't sell it on here for $60 shipped.
If you can use a good set of 1/2", then, yes, I'd keep it.
I've seen other S-K box logos that looked just like ours, but said Chicago, Ill. I'm thinking that was in the early days after the Dresser takeover. Then, as real estate costs skyrocketed in Chicago, major companies relocated to the suburbs (like Sears Roebuck and McDonalds). My guess is S-K did the same. That's when the Franklin Park, Ill. ID appeared.
What year that happened - I don't know. But it's a little piece of S-K history I'd like to find out.

As far as Amazon being overpriced; it happens. I recently bought a Proto set of sockets (J54214) from amazon for 147.00, as soon as I bought it the amazon price changed to 528.90. Grainger had the set at about 450.00. Amazon lists the retail price over 661.13.

I have seen that same set for around $100-$130 new in the past. I would say a fair price for it used would be from $50-$75. It is a nice set you might as well keep it and put it to good use.

I have hed two of those rubber handled breaker bars I bought new and still work good and the rubber grip is still in good shape. I used one of them to break loose a u bolt on my pick up after the Snap on bar broke in three parts.

The fact that its a complete set of S-K is great, helps the value. Like others have noted, probably post-Wayne era, perhaps Dresser Industries timeframe. The vintage S-K and S-K Wayne sockets sets wouldbring more money/value for collectors though. A set of 1/2-drive deep sockets (in the original case) that I recently acquired are much older vintage (Diamond shaped Sherman-Klove metal tag inside top lid of the case) dates them pretty close, and I paid $50 for the set. So I would value your set of much newer S-K at no more than $70 (even though they look in great condition). I would not pay $100 for that set. Of course, I realize you would like to double your investment!

Your best bet is to sell it on here to some1 that appreciates S-K and will give you decent $. On Kijiji, Craigslist etc. it's hard to get good $. People either want Snap On or will go to a mass retailer where they get a giant 150 or 200 piece set on sale for less than what you'd be hoping to get. Obviously S-K is better quality but John Q. Public doesn't know the difference. Here you can get one of those massive Taiwan-China Mastercraft sets at Canadian Tire for $79.99 on sale, that really hurts the used market no matter what you are trying to sell.

I realize this is responding to a very old post. I'm looking for this exact set. This is what my Dad had when I was a lad and alas after Dad passed away, some of mom's hired handymen walked off with the tools. I'm looking for this set that we used back in the 60's. Do you still have it and are you willing to sell it?

Although the metal boxes are no longer produced, SK design has not changed so if all else fails, new should be considered a plan b. Good luck in the hunt, watch cl as SK does pop up as it was a very common brand.

I can't tell what that SK logo says, but it cannot be earlier than 1968, so that set likely dates from the 1970s...
