Here's my latest project, to go with my new box. I'm going to make socket and wrench holders.

I keep planning on drilling holes in plastic plate for my torx, etorx, hex, screwdriver, etc sockets, but I have yet to get motivated enough to do it.

I've thought many times about doing something similar either out of wood-either pegs like you did or drilling holes threw and then using a peice of 1/4" ply glued to the bottom, or metal with pegs but that would probably be pretty heavy unless it was aluminum.

Looks nice and functional.

Grab some cans of spray paint and paint those wooden bases. One color for metric and one color for inch and then you can easily grab and go while you work.

Looks good so far

I've been thinking of doing that. I was thinking of Blue for Inch and Red for metric.

Looks good. I've thought of doing that before. I'd write the socket sizes on the base boards too.

Here are a couple of mine:

3/4" plywood drilled for my deep impacts.

And other misc. sockets.

And of course, the spring wrench organizers made from 12 gauge house wire as discussed in a recent thread.

Cheap is good. FREE is better!

I really like that Idea.

Read about how the idea was spawned HERE.

The wire wrench holders turned out a lot better than I expected. When finished, they're just "stiff enough" to work well without being too hard to bend up nice and evenly.

I first saw that idea here picture 5

I think the spring in FordF1's #5 pic in the link above is a manufactured spring of some type. Those work very well and the idea has been around for years but springs of the correct size/# of coils can be hard to find. That's where the home made holders come in. The single-strand house wire works very, very well for this purpose. I used 12 gauge (because that's what I had on hand) but 10 gauge would probably be even better.

is the homemade spring wrench holders hard on the finish of the tools?
has anyone tried to spray one of those rubber coatings on them to keep them from marring up the chrome?

ahh, nevermind, didn't even think to not strip the wire from the insulator. Hmm ive got about three foot of 12/3 in the garage i was going to scrap...

Will be doing the same with the HF deep impacts i want to get. man, I can finaly see how you guys fill up those 72"+ boxes. I have alot of sockets, but almost all are SAE. and all the ones I want are SAE.
