Tire Skates, what's best?

I'm interested in vehicle tire skates or dollies. What can you tell me to look for or NOT look for in skates.

I can benefit by having my car on dollies by being able to move it out of the way without needing to position it by driving it into place.

I have been looking at these too but don't have any personal experience yet. I know my number one criteria is that they must be the self-jacking kind. In other words, I don't want to have to use a floor jack or a lift to load the car on the dollies. Other than that, I have been looking at weight ratings and the size of he casters. The tire width that the dollies can handle may also be a factor for you depending on what you are going to use them under.

Jegs and Summit both have various models and show pretty good detail on their website.

Yeah, the loading thing is a concern from a convenience standpoint. I have been thinking about a 'drive-on" docking system that would allow me to drop in ramps fore and aft of the skate, then pull the car on, pick-up the ramps an position the car. Make sense?

I have the ones made by Accessible Systems. USA made, very high quality, and they allowed me to move my Firebird around my garage solo, without breaking a sweat. Pricey, but I felt good buying American.

I have two pair, one by HF the black jack up place on set, not the one with the lever and one set by Northern tools that my father in law gave me for Christmas, By far the northern tools set is better, heavy duty, big casters, I would never buy another set of HF ones.

Go with the Go Jacks..the mechanical ones not the hydraulic ones...NO HF.

I have 2 sets of Roll Masters (now out of business) and they are built like tanks. A very similar and perhaps more robust product is made by Red Hawk Enterprises. Their Roll Glides are very similar to Roll Masters. I have one set of them.

I use these car dollies for moving more than cars, I frequently use them to move equipment.

I have a set of the OTC hydraulic's as well as a set of the HF hydraulic's, the HF's do the same job but obviously lower quality, the hydraulic's on both work just fine, larger casters woudl make rolling easier otherwise I have no complaints

I have a set of the standard cheap black dollies from NT, they have worked great for the 12 years I've had them, I've had more weight than what the are rated for on them and they are still not bent and the casters work fine as well.. The metal wheels on these will mark up your fancy floors though when your rotating the car on them.. Something with a nylon caster would be a though it this is a concern.

The go jacks brand are awesome, a friend of mine has a set and they are really nice. They are just so expensive I don't have enough use to pay the money. I've seen alot of other branded similar models, but no idea if they are as smooth working as the go jacks.

The tires on my RANCHERO are 18 inches wide on the rear . i had to split some regular dollies/ widen/ and reweld them for the extra width.
They are HF brand -2 work great and 2 need extra effort to twist the casters.
I think larger casters would help them alot.

The gojacks look great BUT the price is way over most guys heads.

I got what I paid for, chinese without a doubt. One of the casters sticks a little (bad ball bearing) and if you forget to tighten the valve when lifting, you'll squirt jack oil on the floor. But there's no way I could justify the price of gojacks for something I would only use once a month at most.

If you're going to use them often, I'd say Go-Jak is a good investment. At least look for a used set of Go-Jak's as they are mechanical, not hydraulic, so they're not going to wear out after years of use.
