OK I sold this guy a transmission adapter plate for a cummins isb engine, he got a smoking good deal on it bout 50% of other used ones on ebay. I had it boxed up in the bed of my pickup along with 4 or 5 other outgoing parcels i was going to drop at UPS sat. morning... well somebody stole all the boxes out the bed of my pickup while I was getting a cup of coffee yesterday morning.. I emailed the guy and explained what happened, and then immediately refunded his money, shipping price all of it plus an extra 10 bucks for the inconvenience... He replied to my message and said he could use an adapter plate more than a refund and that he would like me to just go ahead and order him one from another auction on ebay or he'll kill my 100% positive rating and rip me a new one on a review...

I don't know what to do here.... What would y'all do in this situation? I want to keep my 100% but it seems like he is blackmailing me here a little bit

as long as he communicated that to you through ebay's messaging system you have nothing to worry about. threatening sellers with negative feedback is against ebay rules. even if he negs you, under these circumstances, ebay should remove the feedback.

Don't misunderstand me---it will be a pain in the ***. But what is the alternative? cave in to the threat?

I think if you contact Ebay first, they may be able to prevent him even posting feedback at all... but I really don't know for sure...

That *****, i leave **** in the truck all the time and never think twice. Honestly i buy quite often from ebay and don't even look at the feedback as a make or break thing for me making a purchase. Crappy deal for you though.

Tell him to go a head, also tell him extortion is illegle in this country, and tell him that he will be reported to the proper authorities if he leaves bad feed back. However, don't say you will, and then don't. If you have provided him, and then ebay, with the police report number, any negitive feedback you receive should be removed.
This what I would do, and what I think. I hope it works out for you.
I'm just sayin.....

Bend over. The guy is going to leave you bad feedback and Ebay wont remove it.

In my case, I forgot to include the word "continental" before US in my shipping (you have to be part lawyer these days on Ebay). I estimated shipping only to the lower 48. Even ground, the shipping was $100 as the item was quite large. A guy buys it from Hawaii (go figure!). The buyer knew damn well what shipping costs were to Hawaii. He so much as admitted it over the phone to me. He then pressed me to ship them for the quoted cost. Unfortunately, shipping to Hawaii is air mail, not ground and the cost was going to be $800. He was demanding that I eat the difference on cost even thought the item only sold for $160. The seller was being totally unreasonable (and a real dickwad). After a few back and forths, I refunded his money and apologized for the inconvienience. I still took one for the team. He ruined my 10 year perfect feedback rating wit his BS negative. Funny, his negative read "refunded my money without my approval" :lol_hitti

I emailed Ebay and disputed his feedback. Ebay told me to go scratch. So I left him a postive with negative comments :fawk:

Dont sweat it, the neg doesnt count after 12 months.

good move. Wouldnt match his douchebaggery quite yet, best to give yourself as much ammo as you can, being polite etc.. and see what ebay does. Occasionally they have been known to temp ban people for threats like that. Item was stolen, you refunded with a bonus. Nothing more to do.

calmly respond back saying that you've already done more than you should have with giving him an extra $10. go on to say that you do not take threats lightly and you have already reported him to ebay and that if you receiving another threat of if he makes good on the original a police report will be filed. and include a link to the part of ebay's rules that says threats are not tolerated.

Had an incedent where my wife accidentally bid on a 2 dollar item, got looking and they wanted 50 plus dollars for shipping. I retracted my bid and sent the seller a message throught ebay system stating it was a mistake. He threatened me, I got ebay involved and they settled it without having neg feedback. Granted that was about 8 years ago and times have changed. Still that buyer is c sucker head up his@#% ********. ***** that all that stuff was stolen while you were getting a cup of java. Best of luck

if he threatened you in ebay messages ebay will remove the negative the just pulled one for me

Guess I will have to give you negative feedback. I cant believe ebay would help someone like you. You got a negative, obviously you deserved it, buyers are generally good people.:lol_hitti

I have had numerous buyers from ebay stating that they never recieved a package when the tracking info proves they did and demanded me send another and so on. I have had a couple negatives throughout my 4+ years on ebay and just got over them. People who will read your feedback will most likely overlook that if you post a 'reply to feedback' and explain the nature. Like others said, it doesn't count after 12 months so it's not worth doing more than expected in these instances.

I got bad feedback once for something like that.

I bought something that was listed as free shipping. They find out shipping to Alaska is expensive and want me to pay some crazy price.

I knew the aprox weight of item and zip code it was coming from and they were WAY over the actually shipping cost.

I told them I would cover the difference between shipping to lower 48 and to here, which I thought was reasonable.

Well that somehow didn't make sense to them and went on to play internet tough guy. Messages like they had contacted their lawyer, etc.. (oh, please... over a $100 item?)
I put in a dispute with Paypal and got my money back. I have better things to do than give my money to people like that.

Bend over. The guy is going to leave you bad feedback and Ebay wont remove it.

You might get a negative feedback but that guy sounds like an A** hole.
You did the right thing, don't worry about it.

csargents1546
I had a similiar thing happen. I won a large air compressor for pennies on the dollar. The seller wanted to charge me the $500 shipping even though I stated I would pick it up in person, the auction ad was revised during the bidding, about his shipping policy etc.

It's a roll of the dice on ebay.:headscrat

I say: Take the neg feedback so you don't have to worry about your 100% rating. Best thing that happened to me in college was getting a B in a class. Then my 4.0 gpa was gone forever and I stopped worrying about it.

I know some guys who buy a new knife and slide it across the driveway to get it all bunged up, or stick the carbon steel blades in a potato so they'll turn rusty, so they don't have to worry about carrying it and using it. Not so dumb.

Tell him to go ahead and post negative feedback. Personally I don't care if a buyer or seller has 1 or 2 negative feedbacks, every business has people that complain about them, rightfully or wrongfully. I try to look at the big picture.

That just happened to me a couple days ago. Guy was selling a tool I wanted to bid on but I didn't see the "800.00" shipping part until after I bid. I retracted as the tool could be shipped for $10 (snap on pass through module)
and reported the guy for excessive shipping.

So far you've done more than enough to make good and communicated properly. Should this douche give negative feedback, I'd just respond back exactly what you've done, including giving him a $10 profit and then move on. Any future buyer would see this and see you're an honest seller.

negatives get removed for very few reasons I understand, and feedback extortion is one of them.

I don’t think the feedback will stand if left considering the extortion assuming it was sent through eBay but the buyer can report the OP as a non performing seller. If you leave negative feedback (positive rating negative comments) for the buyer he can get it removed but I believe if you leave a follow up feedback that will remain even if the feedback is removed. The OP could get a warning from eBay also if neg comments are left but not on a follow up to your own or theirs. I just had my feedback destroyed by a buyer that had a wrong address and I refunded when his follow up address he gave was unconfirmed. He then wanted the item shipped for free under a threat of negative feedback but he had emailed me through my home email. I made the mistake of answering it. I should have directed him to EBay’s messages. I have about 350 feedbacks ( all positive until him )but only like 40 in the past year so the one negative took me down to close to 95%. The buyer sells tools for a living and I believe is the owner. I now sell under my Ebay Id I used to use for buying.

I would politely remind the buyer that you did the best you could for him/her and not respond to anymore contact from him/her.

Let him post the Negitive feedback. You have done more than enough to make up for what happened. It's not your fault the stuff was stolen from your truck. He should be happy that you sent him his refund + $10.00 in a timely manner. That way he can buy it from the theif that stole it from you when its posted, Heck he might get a better deal. :wtf: He is being unreasonable for wanting you to order another one for him. He is the type of person who will post negitive feedback no matter what you do. Best thing to do if he does leave negitive feedback is contact Ebay and try to have them remove it.

But I do like the idea of signing him up for gay ****. :lol_hitti Might get him in some trouble with his wife, which would be well deserved. :)

Wow, what a turd. I don't know about you, but I don't handle threats too well, he wouldn't like my response. Phrases like 'eat a d*' and 'pound sand' would likely fill my response. Props to you for keeping your cool, I hope it works out for you.

I would report him to Ebay, tell him that and that I was done dealing with him.

I want to keep my 100%
Better to enjoy what you do and treat your customers fairly than bending over to keep a number that probably won't make a difference in the long run.

You can't please all the people all the time. Dealing with people on ebay can be tough. Anytime I buy on ebay I look at the feedback if less than 99%. In most cases you can tell the person who left the neg feedback has very low, neg or just generally an asswipe to people he buys from. If 99 out of 100 people you have dealt with say it was good I'm with them. If he does post Neg. I would put in responce "Item Stolen,Refunded 100%+$10,Extorted W/Neg Feedback"
