The point with USA coo costing more is because we as americans want more money to work in a tool factory than wang chung does in china, causing the price to be higher (not always a reasonable figure). If theyre making them in china for $3 a piece and charging $50 theyre blatently just bending us over to make a huge profit, so its not just about the quality of this or that, its the principle to me.

But these high profit support American workers (American executives) so they can buy their Ferrari, Roll Royce, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus.

Wait, more trolling old tools? Why not stick to Lab scopes and pintle bump and subtracting DC baseline from a superimposed AC signal.

So, did you call them?

Yes I called them today, The only alternative would be to send me a Long hard handle facom head (they don't make the 8 inch anymore) so I said fine. They transfered me back to customer service and they said they didn't know if they could do it becuse the ratchet cost like 5-6 dollars more. I blew up then. I told them to send a call tag and send me 63.99 back for this POS in my hand. They are suppose to call me back tommorow to let me know what they are going to do.

I will give them more props than Gearwrench because at least they are doing something

First off, I find almost none of Snap-On's or any other truck tool companies prices to be reasonable.

Secondly, your being bent over by all the tool companies, especially Snap-On. Snap-On charges $150 for a 12 pc. 3/8 metric shallow socket set, Craftsman charges 17.99 for the same set. Both sets are made in the USA so tell me exactly why Snappy charges 8 times as much as Craftsman does. Are Snap-On's materials THAT much better? I doubt it, they just know you'll pay $150 for sockets that cost them $9 to make because they say Snap-On.

I'm guilty of buying all the overpriced **** as well, thats why I can ***** and moan about it :D

Ugh
That really *****!

I guess I was even luckier than I had realized when I got this as a replacement from them last week.

I guess Mac tools are still pretty nice.... as long as their rebadged Facom...

i broke this same ratchet weekly and finally the mac guy told me 2 years ago that he was gonna have to trade me a non fine tooth ratchet because a fine tooth ratchet couldn't take the torque i was putting through it. then i traded it into the snap on truck for a dual 80. i have never broke the ratchet i traded it for since and have since bought about 10 dual 80s and haven't broke any of them.

I haven't had a chance to use it to much yet, but...
I put it on a lug nut on my Jeep and gave it all the torque I would ever expect to with a 3/8" ratchet.

I don't know what you were doing with yours, but I can't imagine how I could break one every week.

It's made by Facom Btw. A well respected European brand.
They don't make junk.

Some guys just NEVER get it. That's okay, I'll continue to buy SO. Sears is fine for home use but you'll see the difference working with them everyday. I started out as an apprentice thinking the same thing and used C-man sockets daily. I warrantied them monthly or bi-monthly too. Switching them out with SO sockets (some bought new, some bought used) I haven't had too many break. When they do it's replaced with a smile and a piece of candy.

The French made Facom tools are great but since Stanley owns them the outsource from everywhere including Taiwan so yes they don't make junk but they will put their name on anything...

This ratchet was made in Italy.

It's a very compact head, fine tooth, ratchet.
It's not meant to be used as a breaker bar.

I would be surprised if there is any grade of tool steel that costs 8 times as much as any other grade; especially when limited to the grades that are suitable for making quality sockets.

You've got to give credit to Snap-on and the other tool truck companies though. They have come up with a business model that allows them to sell highly overpriced products, and sell a lot of them. Few companies are able to do this, but the ones that can tend to have a similar business model (e.g., "direct marketing" and extending credit). A few that come to mind are Kirby & Rainbow vacuum cleaners, Cutco cutlery, and Saladmaster cookware.

Well then you must be the perfect example of someone that misuses his tools. I DO work with my craftsman sockets every day, beat the **** out of them on heavy duty trucks and 15 year old trailers. All the **** I do to them and haven't broke one yet. I did break a 3/8-1/2 adapter but those damn things are designed to be broke.

Every one of my sockets and extensions are Craftsman and then I keep some raised panel wrenches around if I need to bend or grind a wrench down for something. All my ratchets, 95% of my wrenches, pry bars, screwdrivers, specialty ****, punches/chisels etc etc are from Matco, Snap-On or MAC. I can swallow the cost for a lot of items but sockets aren't one of them. I have 3 Sears within 10 miles so I can swap out a socket quicker then I can if I have to wait on the tool truck.

Update, This time around MAC sent me a 10 inch long Facom headed ratchet for my 8 inch. Looks well made (Made in Italy) but the hate the handle. I think I'll just list it in the classifieds. I give up, lol

I will have to give mac a thumbs up for trying to please me. They sent me what they had although I'm not crazy about it unlike Gearwrench who did nothing.

Thats a piece of ****, that rubber handle will start coming loose after only little useage. I sent in an older mac ratchet and got one like that back. I am not pleased at all with it.

Shhhh, I have it in the classifieds:lol_hitti

I absolutly hate the handle. The ratchet itself seems very smooth but the head doesn't seem large enough for a 10 inch ratchet. Unless Facom is building a super strength head I would want to be standing on the handle. I guess it would be OK for a tight spot where you need extra handle length. If I do keep it you can bet it will get a new handle.
