just heard about these and was wondering has anyone ever installed one? or have one? how well do they work?

the guy on the radio said they work great for older home that don't have ac and tight spaces where you cant run normal duct.

Hitman you gotta watch more This Old House . The guy on there loves those things. I havent put one in yet myself but I do think they would be a great option in some of our older homes such as ones up in the highlands that have never had central AC before.

i was looking at them for the garage for that year that i ever have the money to put one in. i guess it the same as a normal unit but uses more static at a lower cfm to move the air?

Beats the heck out of watching that meter spin at Mach2 when it hits 25* outside . I have NG out here but do have dual fuel for HVAC . Heat pump runs if its over 35* NG 95% furnace for under 35* .

i have a gas main that runs right through my yard. but no one in my neighborhood has gas.

my heat-pump will run till my stat says hey its cold which is like 5 degrees below the set point but it has to be cold out

Saw one of these installed in a Parade of Homes show. Can't comment on how well they work but I was turned off just by the looks of the system. There were those small vent holes everywhere! The house looked like swiss cheese.

I have a new home with 100% radiant heat. So I installed a Space pak unit for my A/C.
The same idea but different manufacturer. Two buddies and I did the install in about six hours , 2900 square foot ranch home.
The main duct is nine inch round with two inch flex duct braches and one central return
The branches will drop down a standard 2x4 wall this is why it works nice for an older home.
I was a little worried about the noise issue from what I have read online but after installing it per manufacturers’ guidelines it is quieter than my last homes traditional forced air unit.
It works great and pulls out a lot more humidity than a typical unit.

Mike's comment about following the manuf installation instructions with hi-vel is highly pertinent here. Where you get into trouble with hv is when it is inconvenient for the installer to follow the very specific rules. Do it right and they are great. Follow the "this should be good enough" method and you may not like the tune the system whistles.
