I contacted SK a couple of weeks ago and they just got back to me today. I have a roto head fine tooth ratchet 43875. I asked about getting a rebuild kit and how that would work with the new SK. The reply I got was a thank you for contacting us and "I will be more than happy to send you a repair kit for your ratchet"!!! So they must have bought some stock of repair kits from the old SK and nice to know they will just send one out! It took a couple weeks but I wasn't expecting much to be honest between them not fully up and running and also because from what I can see they aren't going to be selling this ratchet anymore. So it was a nice suprise when I got that email!

 to the new SK!

Way to burst my bubble guys!

Well the clock is on and we'll see how long it takes. If I don't get one that is fine, I will just send the ratchet in when SK is fully up and running, pay the 5 bucks and get a new ratchet. If they do send a kit then great. The message said they would be happy to send a kit out so hopefully that wasn't just a line of ****. Guess only time will tell.

Some more bad news,Dealers have up to the 18th of this month to get broken tools sent in to get replaced.Auto Wares (Auto Value Parts stores) came out with a bulletin on this.Mainly the older tools and anything abused is not covered.Any ratchet with evidence marks used on a cheater bar are not covered is one example

Whats wrong with that? It's clearly misuse of the tool, I don't blame them a bit for not taking them in on warranty claims.

Got home yesterday and there was a package from SK waiting for me!!!

I'm really impressed with their warranty so far. Just wanted to give an update since we are all waiting anxiously to see how things are going to be handled by SK. Hopefully things continue like this!

Ideal did not buy the brand and build a new factory with the strategy of failing to make customers happy. I'm confident that they will be pretty good with customer services, at least at first.

On a side note, I totally support companies that don't want to warranty abuse as long as their warranty statement is clear at the time of purchase. Warranties for abuse cost companies real money and results in them being less likely to have good warranties in the future.

It is nice to know SK it moving in the right direction.

:(

Went to put the kit in and it's not even close to being the right one. From what I know SK isn't going to be making the fine tooth roto head ratchet anymore so they probably don't have any rebuild kits for that ratchet. Kind of bummed out about it but not really their fault. Probably a lot of learning to do to know all the old tools and new tools and what will work and what won't. From the looks of the kit it is for their new ratchet the 3870 which is only 36 teeth I think instead of my 43875 which is 72 teeth. I will email them and ask if they have any kits for the 43875. If not I guess I will have to send it in for the warranty and I assume they will just swap it out for a 3870.

So the good news is SK warranty is up and running and they sent out a kit for free! The bad news is I have one of their ratchets they used to make and don't anymore so they sent the wrong kit.

Try one of the Stanley/Proto/Facom kits... since the palm was a Facom design. Don't know for sure if the Facom/Proto kit fits the SK, but I will asa my 1/2" SK shows up and I can take it apart and play.

UPDATE:

Just received an email from SK! So they are reading and monitoring the forums which is good news, shows they care and are interested in what people think. In my opinion any company that takes the time to contact the customer(I didn't get around to emailing them yet, he read my post and emailed me threw GJ) shows great customer service. He stated that they are not going to support the tough1 ratchets anymore, which is what I figured, but that there might be a kit somewhere. So there is still a little hope for saving this ratchet!

Just thought you would like to hear that SK is reading the forum and are really trying to help.

Way to go SK

I was amazed that they emailed me threw the garagejournal, or even that they are reading the forum trying to see what potential customers are saying! I like all my SK tools a lot and all of us have been very curious to see how the "new" sk tools would come across. Looks like they are going to come out strong in the customer service area! Even if they don't have a kit for my ratchet I understand since they aren't making them anymore. I am just pleased(and a little shocked) that they took the time to read the forum and send me an email saying they would try to find a kit for me! It's not often that a company contacts you about an issue!

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums and am curious, what's this talk about the "new" SK and "old" SK? Is there a thread on this somewhere that I can skim through to get me up to date? Though I like SK tools, I don't own many. Just a really nice torque wrench so far.

dseybert,

SK went bankrupt and were bought by Ideal Industries. Just type in SK Tools in the search feature and you will find many threads. Ideal has said they are going to continue to make all of SK tools in the USA.

Well, good news. I'm impressed, SK! It's great to hear of a good old quality brand of US tools being made in the USA, and offering real honest-to-goodness good customer service.

I'll keep that in mind as I buy new tools in the future.

Received another email tonight after 6pm from SK. They said they think they have some kits for my ratchet, they said they are sending one out but asked for a picture to make sure it was the right one.

Also said "You can expect great things from SK as we move forward. We've been pretty quiet as we get manufacturing up and running. As a general policy, Ideal companies don't participate in forums, but I saw your issue and wanted to try to correct our customer service mistake. Keep your eye out for us. We'll be shipping to distributors in April with better than ever, Made in USA quality."

I hope he doesn't mind me sharing this, I was just excited and want to share my good experience with others.

Looks like SK tools are just around the corner and customer service is some of the best I have seen! I know they will have one customer for sure, me.

Reading through the post, it seems to late for me to get my SK ratchet replaced. :dunno: What is the email address where I can get more info.

...Bob

No where in this post does it say SK won't warranty a ratchet. It does say that DEALERS only had till a certian date to turn in tools that have been turned in to them by end users. SK will warranty tools, and they are working very hard to get me a kit to a ratchet they are no longer going to make.

What model ratchet do you have that needs replaced? Are the guts just worn out? For the website just google SK tools and you will find out how to contact them.

Got another package from SK the other day and it was the right kit! I am really happy. They went out of their way to find the right kit, and they said once these kits are gone they are gone, so no support for the tough1 ratchets anymore.

Looks like SK is going to have some good customer service, and one customer for sure-me! I was amazed at how they found my post on this forum about the wrong kit being sent and then emailed me threw the forum, I can't say I've ever had a company email me before I emailed them. And then they searched threw old stock to find the right kit even thought they aren't going to make or support this ratchet anymore. If this is any hint to how things are going to go I see good things for SK. It's support like this that make quality tools worth every penny!

We'll, I might just have to spend some Money with Sk when if they show up in a store near me.

With customer service like that, wow.

He said they are going to be shipping to distributers in April. I asked if he could give any idea of how or who SK was going to use as distributers but he didn't say. Should be shortly.

Scott,

How much exactly is SK paying you and how can I get hired on also?

j/k. It's nice to hear that there's still great customer service out there.

Don't think they have whole ratchets available anymore. Is that handle supposed to be bent or did that happen from some extra leverage? You might be able to see if they will replace it with the 36 tooth ratchet but don't think you will get a tuff1 anymore.

I called SK today looking to get an RMA on some tools.
They referred me to a local business (KBC Tools) that no longer carries SK or handles their warranty.
When I called back (1:57 PM CST) Customer service was not available.
Looks like they are still getting the kinks out.
